My Alpha Has a Dual Personality (GL) - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“How… how can I help?” Chi Yunhan asked, looking at the person in front of her.
The wine and drowsiness hit her all at once, making it hard to keep her eyes open. Her chin bumped the table several times. A woman, delicate as night-blooming jasmine, approached her, her fingers gently touching Chi Yunhan’s chin as she whispered, “Careful.”
So… so considerate.
Not only that, the woman slid her fingers along Chi Yunhan’s jaw, her fingertips brushing against her skin, saying, “This is how I’ll help you.”
“Hmm?” Chi Yunhan glanced over again. The woman’s shirt slipped down, catching at her elbow, revealing snowy white skin. Just as Chi Yunhan sat up straight, the woman leaned in closer, one hand holding her jaw, the other resting on the hand gripping the mouse, guiding it slowly to draw. She even reminded Chi Yunhan to tilt her head up to look at the computer screen.
Everything was a blur.
Chi Yunhan felt toyed with, torn between wanting to sleep and being kept alert.
If only… if only she were sober.
…
When Chi Yunhan woke up, she was sprawled on the living room sofa, a blanket draped over her. She sat there dazed for a moment before jolting upright.
It was 10:30.
Damn! She was late!
Chi Yunhan scrambled to her feet, changed into clean clothes, grabbed her laptop, and rushed to the company. By the time she reached the office, almost everyone was already there.
The Director stood at the door with a cup of tea, waiting for her. She raised her wrist to show the time. “Pretty early, huh? Finished the design draft yet? Planning to pack up and leave today?”
Chi Yunhan, feeling guilty, stood at the door, enduring the scolding. Colleagues from other departments passed by, casting curious glances. It was humiliating—her adult pride felt trampled into the ground.
Once the Director finished, Chi Yunhan returned to her seat, dejected, and opened her laptop. Zuo Yijing handed her a yogurt. “Take it easy.”
“Thanks.” Chi Yunhan poked the straw in and took a sip.
Zuo Yijing asked, “Was that really your wife yesterday?”
Chi Yunhan nodded, her mind a fog. She’d rushed to work that morning without even checking if Jiang Muning had woken up.
Alcohol was the real culprit.
Her head throbbed from the hangover, and she couldn’t recall what had happened. She woke up fully clothed, so… nothing reckless happened after drinking, right?
Better not have. If something did happen and she couldn’t remember, what a waste that would be!
Zuo Yijing said, surprised, “My God, are the Alphas at the rescue center that high-quality now? I heard the center was just for strays, Alphas nobody wanted.”
“It’s a matter of luck. She’s living with me now,” Chi Yunhan mumbled, opening her laptop. She reached for her stylus to work on her draft, but when the screen lit up, what was this? The draft was already finished!
Yesterday, after getting home, Chi Yunhan had worked on her draft, sketching away.
Could she have finished it while drunk…?
Puzzled, she sent the file to Twilight’s email with a message.
Twilight replied quickly: [I’m not working today.]
Chi Yunhan: [This is my best design yet. Please take a look—it might catch your eye. Thank you.]
Twilight: [You’ve said that 108 times.]
Chi Yunhan took a deep breath. This was tough. She played the pity card: [This is my last submission. Please review it. Thank you for your guidance, and I hope you find the perfect draft soon.]
Though she wanted to be mad at Twilight, she still hoped to end things on a good note. Chi Yurorong and her ilk weren’t decent, but Chi Yunhan wouldn’t stoop to their level.
With that, she closed the chat window. By afternoon, she checked again—no reply from Twilight. Her heart grew colder.
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
Chi Yunhan was usually high-energy, always able to comfort herself no matter what happened.
But this time, she was genuinely hurt.
This job was one she’d earned herself. Starting as an intern, she’d revised drafts stroke by stroke, taking on picky clients’ orders others avoided, making dozens, hundreds of changes, slowly building her place.
She admitted she wasn’t naturally gifted, but hard work paid off. She’d climbed step by step, only for one design to fail and crush her. She felt deeply wronged.
Though she’d resolved to give up, she couldn’t help hoping for a miracle—that Twilight might like her design.
But reality was cruel, and people were cold.
Chi Yunhan looked in the mirror. The reflection showed red eyes.
She raised her middle finger, despising herself, then adjusted her ring. She’d come in such a hurry that morning she hadn’t even tidied up properly.
As she stepped out, she saw Chi Yurorong and the Director passing by the break room, laughing together.
Chi Yurorong glanced at the Director, apologetic. “Director Zhang, I’m really sorry. Last time, I spoke harshly, but I was just protective of my sister. Yunhan’s been a disappointment, causing you trouble.”
“Hey, it’s fine once it’s cleared up,” Director Zhang said. “Chi Yunhan’s indeed a letdown. I had high hopes for her, but she was late this morning. If you ask me, you shouldn’t bother with her. She’s dragging your reputation down. What, are you going to be her babysitter?”
Chi Yurorong forced a smile. “She’s my sister, after all.”
“HR already sent word. The company can’t keep her. You should think about yourself,” Director Zhang said.
As they passed Chi Yunhan, they gave her a look of disdain, as if she were a hopeless case.
By evening, Chi Yunhan still hadn’t heard from Twilight. At the end of the day, the Director called her to HR, meaning it was time to pack up and leave.
Zuo Yijing said, “Leaving so soon? Shouldn’t it be next week at least? Don’t you need to hand over your work?”
With those two jerks teaming up, how could she not leave early?
Chi Yunhan packed her things, too upset to bother with HR. Today was rough—she wanted her wife to pick her up after work.
As she packed, a shadow fell over her desk. She looked up—it was Chi Yurorong.
Zuo Yijing tactfully stood up. “You two talk. I’ll check with HR—maybe there’s a mistake. Yunhan, don’t rush to leave.”
The door closed, leaving them staring at each other.
Chi Yurorong reached to help pack, but Chi Yunhan swatted her hand away with a book. Chi Yurorong didn’t get mad, smiling gently like a caring sister. “So, how’d it go?”
“How do you think?” Chi Yunhan felt a pang of grievance, but her anger burned stronger, burying her vulnerability. “Why keep pretending? Is it necessary?”
Chi Yurorong’s lips curved slightly. She removed her gloves, her slender fingers tapping the desk. “Actually, quitting’s for the best. You’re not cut out for design.”
“None of your damn business. Whether I’m suited for it has nothing to do with you.”
Chi Yunhan tossed a book into her box. So what if she was a designer? If she didn’t do it, fine. She didn’t even like it. Worst case, she’d become a craftsman, learn to blow glass bottles with Lu Xiangyuan.
Chi Yurorong sat beside her, speaking slowly. “I do hope you disappear from the perfume industry entirely.”
Chi Yunhan’s fingers clenched, and she sneered. “Not pretending anymore? Tired of playing the saint every day?”
“It is tiring,” Chi Yurorong said with a relieved smile. “You’re finally leaving the company. I don’t have to act anymore. It feels so freeing.”
Being around Chi Yunhan always felt suffocating, forcing her to play the good sister.
So exhausting!
Chi Yurorong rubbed her temples. “I can’t understand why someone like you is called a ‘perfume genius.’ Look at you—where’s the genius? Your grades were terrible, second to last in class, only ahead of an idiot. I was embarrassed every time I went to your parent-teacher meetings.”
Chi Yurorong’s grades were never great, but she worked hard and reached the middle of the pack—pretty good. Why did they look down on her?
She continued, “Yet someone like you got special admission. I was the top of my class. I was the one who should’ve been chosen.”
“All you can do is analyze some perfume components. It’s laughable.” After a long pause, Chi Yurorong exhaled. “Luckily, you differentiated into an omega, and all your talent was stripped away. You also wasted a spot. If it weren’t for you, I’d be in PFE by now. You ruined me.”
An omega’s sense of smell is stronger than an alpha’s or beta’s, but they face many restrictions. Their pheromones, for instance—normally just a personal scent, but during heat… they’re like a seductive drug.
Chi Yurorong smiled. “Even luckier, you differentiated into an omega during the competition, banned for life from being a perfumer.”
What genius? What next master perfumer?
Just a joke.
This was Chi Yunhan’s lifelong pain, something she never spoke of. Yet Chi Yurorong tore open her wounds.
“Have you said enough?” Chi Yunhan slammed her book down, the noise signaling she was on the edge of rage.
But Chi Yurorong, as if addicted to talking, wouldn’t stop. “Always hanging around me, copying others’ designs, making a mess, and daring to work at the same company as me. I’m so fed up. Why are you so annoying? Why do you copy everything I do? I wish you’d stay far away from me.”
She stared straight at Chi Yunhan, as if wishing she’d drop dead.
Chi Yurorong adjusted her clothes, leaving elegantly, nobly. She’d never have to see Chi Yunhan again—no one would outshine her now.
“The moment a failure raises their hand, they’ll be cursed, no matter if they’re right or wrong.”
Chi Yunhan clenched her fists.
She took a deep breath, reminding herself not to act rashly. It wasn’t worth it—arguing with such a jerk wasn’t worth it. Stay calm, and things would settle.
No, she couldn’t take it anymore.
To hell with staying calm. Today, she’d rip Chi Yurorong’s face off. Before, when Chi Yurorong pretended to be nice, Chi Yunhan had comforted herself that it was something, at least.
Who the hell knew Chi Yurorong was deliberately bullying her?
She wouldn’t take it anymore. Not even if it killed her!
She was leaving anyway—no way she’d put up with this crap!
Chi Yunhan stormed forward, ready to fight, her fist aimed at Chi Yurorong. Chi Yurorong dodged quickly.
At that moment, Zuo Yijing rushed in, swiftly blocking Chi Yunhan. “Yunhan, calm down! I’ve got good news!”
“I’m getting fired anyway. If I don’t beat this trash now, am I supposed to save her for New Year’s?”
Chi Yunhan was strong, breaking free in a few moves and charging to the door.
Zuo Yijing shouted, “It’s really good news, Yunhan! Your design passed! HR said you’re getting a 10,000-yuan bonus this month!”
Chi Yunhan scoffed, then froze as the words sank in. She turned to her. “What… my design passed?”
“Yes, yes!” Zuo Yijing nodded repeatedly. “HR called you over to get the money. Who the hell said you were fired? Beat them up!”
Chi Yunhan looked at Chi Yurorong. “You’re right.”
She rolled up her sleeves and swung a fist at Chi Yurorong’s face. Still in shock, Chi Yurorong didn’t dodge in time and nearly fell over.
Chi Yurorong steadied herself against a desk, staring at Zuo Yijing in disbelief. “The design passed?”
Zuo Yijing nodded. “Twilight said it herself! She said it’s like she designed it herself!”
She coughed, her throat dry from talking.
“How’s that possible?” Chi Yurorong’s face twisted in shock.
Chi Yunhan, meanwhile, laughed with satisfaction.
She didn’t care anymore. Pointing at Chi Yurorong’s nose, she shouted triumphantly, “Hear that? I’m staying at the company every damn day! I’m gonna make you miserable! Piss you off! Piss you off, you stinking idiot!”
Chi Yunhan struck a victorious pose, grinning smugly. “How’s that, huh? You pissed off yet? Wanna jump off the building and die?”
