My Alpha Has a Split Personality - Chapter 1
Chi Yunhan braced her hands on the table, her face flushed crimson, her eyes glistening with moisture that trailed down her cheeks. The overwhelming surge of pheromones continued to flow, exuding an intoxicating fragrance that could make one’s legs weak with desire.
She was in heat again.
Deep breaths.
A few minutes later, Chi Yunhan quickly scooped water and splashed it on her face, not stopping until her scorching skin cooled down. Only then did she reach out to turn off the faucet.
“How many times is that this month?”
“Don’t ask. If you must know, there are thirty-one days in a month.”
“Goodness, anyone would think Team Leader Chi has met her fated mate!”
Fated mate? More like a damn murderer!
Chi Yunhan yanked open the restroom door and glared at the chattering crowd outside. “Don’t you all have work to do? Are the fragrance bottles for PFE Company all designed?”
“Right away, we’re going right away!” The people blocking the doorway scattered like startled birds.
Panting heavily, Chi Yunhan returned to her workstation and clicked the mouse, waking the screen—still displaying the chat conversation from earlier.
Chi Yunhan: May I ask if there’s anything else you’re dissatisfied with?
Chi Yunhan: Feel free to point out any issues.
Twilight: Ugly.
Chi Yunhan: Understood. Would you be open to meeting in person? That way, I can make adjustments more effectively and hear your feedback firsthand. What do you think?
Twilight: Will meeting make it less ugly?
Chi Yunhan: “…”
Ohoho.
Then shut the hell up. Better yet, lose your voice entirely.
Chi Yunhan took a deep breath, silently chanting, Don’t get angry, don’t get angry, getting sick from rage won’t help—we won’t stoop to the level of this nitpicking, insufferable client!
Less than three minutes later, Chi Yunhan was back in the restroom. The bottle of suppressants was empty—she smacked it twice, but not a single drop remained.
She had just bought this a few days ago!
Twilight was a damn idiot!
If I ever run into her—just wait and see!
Without suppressants, the heat was unbearable. And with how frequently this was happening, Chi Yunhan was running on fumes. She rubbed her lower back, then clutched her stomach on the way out, pretending it was just a stomachache.
After work, Chi Yunhan immediately met up with a friend and headed to the supermarket, grabbing an entire case of suppressants. Clutching them tightly, she gritted her teeth. “Heh, just let me see her—I’ll punch her face into a swollen mess!”
She cracked her knuckles and spat, “If I don’t ruin her, my name isn’t Chi Yunhan!”
Lu Xiangyuan had only heard of Twilight’s reputation—cold, sharp-tongued—but had never interacted with her up close. She chuckled. “Is she really that awful? She is your client, you know. There’s a good chance she’ll acquire the company, and then she’ll be your boss.”
“Ahhh! You have no idea, no idea how she—” Chi Yunhan was on the verge of a breakdown just thinking about it. She clenched her fist as if crushing Twilight in her grip before violently throwing her to the ground.
No words were needed—Lu Xiangyuan understood her frustration perfectly.
Chi Yunhan stomped her feet twice. “I never want to work with her again in my life. Seriously, if this keeps up, I’ll—”
“Go into heat? Are your pheromones leaking again?” Lu Xiangyuan pointed at the back of her neck.
“Sorry.” Chi Yunhan sprayed the newly bought suppressants directly onto her scent gland, taking deep breaths. It couldn’t be helped—just the mention of Twilight made her neck burn, her pheromones spiraling out of control.
“Let’s talk about something else. Are you really going to the relief center to claim a wife?” Lu Xiangyuan asked. “Isn’t that too sudden?”
Chi Yunhan nodded, the glands on the back of her neck burning so hot her skin flushed pink. She gave a soft hum of agreement. “The government assigned her to me, so of course I’m going to claim her.”
She fidgeted slightly, fingers twisting inside her pockets. “If we get along, after registering our marriage, she’ll be my wife. We can be together every day. It’s not really sudden—I applied a long time ago and only recently got matched with someone.”
Lu Xiangyuan said seriously, “You still need to be careful. Alphas from the relief centers usually have some issues. You should ask about them clearly.”
Chi Yunhan hummed in acknowledgment, then added quietly, “I… I have issues too. It works out perfectly—the Alpha I matched with also has pheromone problems. We’ll make a good pair.”
She wasn’t getting any younger—it was time to find someone to settle down with!
The most straightforward solution for pheromone issues was comfort and guidance.
If she had a bad day dealing with clients and her pheromones flared up, she could go home and seek comfort from her wife—physical comfort. And if her wife had pheromone problems, she could return the favor.
Ah, just thinking about this made her blush.
Actually, the relief center was essentially an official matchmaking service for defective Alphas and Omegas with differentiation issues. But because Alphas had powerful mental energy and were more dangerous, they had to be housed at the center until matched with an Omega, to prevent pheromone outbreaks that could harm society.
The relief center was some distance away. After parting with Lu Xiangyuan, Chi Yunhan transferred to subway line 4, then took bus route 3 before finally arriving at the center’s entrance.
Staring at the big blue iron gate, Chi Yunhan felt nervous. How should she greet her match?
“Hello, I’m your assigned partner, your wife”?
“Hello, I’m Chi Yunhan. Let’s take care of each other from now on”?
After several minutes of hesitation, she saw many Alpha-Omega pairs leaving the center—some holding hands, some blushing shyly, others walking in silence.
“Next, Chi Yunhan,” a staff member called.
Chi Yunhan hurried over, licking her lips excitedly.
The staff member examined her documents, then looked up at her. “The Alpha you’re assigned to is Jiang Muning. Are you sure about this?”
Chi Yunhan nodded. Meeting the staffer’s doubtful gaze, she said solemnly, “Don’t worry, I’ll treat her well. No discrimination here.”
“That’s not the issue,” the staffer said. “The problem is your pheromone compatibility with Jiang Muning is only 30%. Two other Omegas with over 50% compatibility tried to match with her before, but both attempts failed.”
“She was abandoned twice?” Chi Yunhan asked softly.
The staffer made a noncommittal sound, their expression complicated. “You could say that, but—”
“But I’ll treat her well,” Chi Yunhan insisted. The thought of Jiang Muning’s suffering pained her—being abandoned was terrible. She said earnestly, “I believe in fate. Since the system matched her to me, that means she belongs with me.”
Whether moved by her bold declaration or simply unable to handle the sappy romanticism of youth, the staffer soon brought out her assigned Alpha.
The first few Alphas who came out were fine—some needed support, others leaned on things. But this Alpha was different. Dressed in a sleek black suit, she stood tall and straight at the entrance, the open white collar of her shirt dotted with faint traces of bl00d.
The moment she appeared, all the staff took several steps back.
A woman walked up to her, scanning her face with calm detachment. Her peach-blossom eyes lifted slightly, cold and indifferent, yet she remained silent.
Chi Yunhan was stunned.
Was this her wife? So breathtakingly beautiful! How could anyone has abandoned her? Those people clearly had no taste.
She stood there for a while, her gaze lingering on the specks of bl00d staining Jiang Muning’s cuffs and couldn’t help but feel a surge of protectiveness. She stepped forward, reaching out to take Jiang Muning’s hand.
But before she could, Jiang Muning slipped her hands into her pockets, her piercing gaze sweeping over her like a blade. “Jiang Muning,” she said coolly.
“Oh, I’m Chi Yunhan.”
Chi Yunhan felt a little awkward.
Her fingers twitched before she stuffed them back into her own pockets.
A staff member explained the procedures, confirming their sponsorship relationship, and reminded them, “Your support arrangement will last three months. If things don’t work out, you can terminate it. Miss Chi, don’t forget the deadline.”
Chi Yunhan frowned, a pang of discomfort tightening in her chest. Whether or not they got along in these three months, bringing this up in front of someone who had already been abandoned was inappropriate—too cruel.
Just as she was about to speak, Jiang Muning cut in, “I remember.”
The staff hesitated, then pushed out Jiang Muning’s suitcase and handed them a support package, explaining that it contained financial aid. They could deposit money into it, as the interest rate was higher than a personal account.
Jiang Muning said, “Three months’ worth of living expenses are in there. Use it as you like.”
Chi Yunhan nodded.
They didn’t have much to carry. Chi Yunhan took the suitcase while Jiang Muning shouldered the large backpack.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, their shadows stretched long across the ground. Chi Yunhan tilted her head up, feeling the frustrations of the day dissipate.
On the way back, they skipped the crowded buses and subway, opting for a taxi instead. They sat in the back, but Jiang Muning stayed pressed against the door, keeping a wide distance between them.
The car was stifling. For some reason, Chi Yunhan kept catching faint whiffs of a scent—subtle, elusive, yet maddeningly persistent. It teased at her senses, curling around her neck like invisible tendrils.
She stole a glance at Jiang Muning.
Jiang Muning was focused on her phone, diligently reviewing documents.
Sweat beaded on Chi Yunhan’s forehead. Unable to take it anymore, she snapped, “Driver, could you rein in your pheromones? They’re really bothering me.” Damn these Alphas—always flaunting their pheromones around pretty women!
The driver turned off the car stereo. “Little lady, don’t go blaming me—I’m a Beta! Maybe it’s the young lady next to you? She’s an Alpha, isn’t she?”
Betas couldn’t smell pheromones—only Omegas and Alphas were affected. Chi Yunhan turned to look at the woman beside her.
Was it hers?
Jiang Muning’s gaze remained fixed ahead, cold and detached. “Not me either,” she said.
Chi Yunhan touched her heated gland, all because of that damn Twilight’s provocation. Now even the slightest whiff of pheromones could send her spiraling out of control.
How utterly wanton.
With a dry response, Chi Yunhan said, “That must be pheromones blowing in from outside. I’m actually quite proper, you can rest assured.”
She rolled down the car window, letting the wind rush against her face. The cold air poured in, dissipating much of the heat, finally bringing some relief. Too embarrassed to get out immediately, Chi Yunhan paid a few extra coins before exiting.
As they stepped out together, Jiang Muning followed behind with one hand in her pocket, exuding coldness. Walking ahead, Chi Yunhan felt her gland betraying her again with rising heat. She pulled up her collar.
Heh. Spring had arrived, and all the Alphas were going into heat. The air was thick with pheromones—she’d have to wear a mask when going out from now on.
…
The moment they entered, an overwhelming wave of pheromones assaulted them, nearly bending Chi Yunhan double. Gasping, she turned to see Jiang Muning standing rigidly behind her, brows tightly knit.
“It’s not me,” Jiang Muning said calmly.
“…Oh.”
But the tips of your ears are red.
Standing face to face, though invisible, their pheromones were palpable to each other. Jiang Muning’s pheromones, restrained in the car earlier, now rampaged wildly, probing at Chi Yunhan’s neck and teasing her gland.
If pheromones had teeth, Chi Yunhan’s neck would already be a bloody mess. Despite this, Jiang Muning remained ramrod straight, declaring, “I don’t need pheromone regulation. I’m perfectly fine.”
Chi Yunhan thought to herself, her wife was a woman of few words and full of tsundere pride.
No matter. For a first meeting, jumping straight into such intimate acts would be awkward for anyone. There would be plenty of time for marking and regulation later.
Taking a deep breath, Chi Yunhan suppressed the restlessness in her body. She retrieved a pair of slippers from the entryway cabinet, intending to invite Jiang Muning to stay while she went downstairs for fresh air. As she bent to place the shoes down—
Jiang Muning suddenly added, “It’s because you’re too fragrant. Your scent made me lose control.”
Her voice was icy, the deadpan tone dripping with absolute seriousness.
Chi Yunhan’s legs gave out completely.
