My Alpha Has a Split Personality - Chapter 13
The atmosphere was awkward. The two of them stared at each other, as if frozen in place, neither daring to move a muscle.
Chi Yunhan was the first to snap out of it. Thinking that Jiang Muning must be even more embarrassed than she was, she calmly lowered her head and pulled up her pants. As she fastened her belt, she suddenly remembered she had come to use the toilet and glanced back at Jiang Muning.
Jiang Muning, who had probably never encountered such a situation in her life, was at a complete loss. Her eyes were vacant, her mind utterly blank.
When Chi Yunhan bent down to pick up her pants, Jiang Muning mechanically picked up the shirt as well. After that, she had no idea what to do—she couldn’t very well put it back on, could she?
Jiang Muning was deep in thought, strategizing her next move and searching for a way out of this predicament. But Chi Yunhan couldn’t hold it in any longer. Gritting her teeth, she asked, “Are you done yet?”
Truth be told, she was curious to see how Jiang Muning would handle the awkwardness. After all, it was the first time she’d seen Jiang Muning like this, and it was kind of amusing.
Unexpectedly, her words seemed to spark an idea in Jiang Muning. The woman lowered her head, sniffed the shirt, and after a moment of contemplation, declared with utmost seriousness, “It smells sour.”
“What?”
“I said your clothes have a sour smell.”
Damn it.
Chi Yunhan couldn’t take it anymore. She didn’t know whether to laugh or get angry—her bladder felt like it was about to burst. Clutching her stomach, she was about to speak when Jiang Muning launched into a lengthy explanation to justify her “sour” remark.
“You drank too much last night, and with all the emotional turmoil, you sweated. The alcohol mixed with sweat caused a chemical reaction, so—”
“So, my clothes smell sour, and you took your sweet time sniffing them?” Chi Yunhan cut her off bluntly. Hunched over and holding up her pants, she walked in, looking like she was about to drop them again.
Jiang Muning straightened her back defensively. “What are you doing now?”
“What do you think?” Chi Yunhan could no longer hold it in and headed straight for the toilet.
In the blink of an eye, Chi Yunhan had stripped off her underwear, standing bare-legged with her feet on the cold floor, toes curling from the chill.
Jiang Muning was stunned, staring blankly.
Chi Yunhan’s legs were pale, her toes turning pink from the cold.
She had never seen…
Chi Yunhan blinked at her, propping her chin on her hand, and shamelessly asked, “Like what you see?”
The next second, Jiang Muning bolted out and slammed the door behind her.
Under normal circumstances, Chi Yunhan would never have had the nerve to do this. But today, for some reason, she felt unusually bold.
Recalling Jiang Muning’s flustered escape just now, she couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Hahaha!” Her wife was kind of adorable.
Calling her shameless, yet doing something even more shameless?
Calling her indecent, yet secretly sniffing her clothes?
Even worse, when Jiang Muning had rushed out earlier, she’d taken the shirt with her. Who knew if she was out there sniffing it again?
Thankfully, last night when Chi Yunhan had gone to bed, she’d felt too exposed and uncomfortable, so she’d thrown on a nightgown. Otherwise, she would’ve been completely naked.
After relieving herself, Chi Yunhan felt infinitely better.
When she stepped out, she saw Jiang Muning adjusting her tie by the door, briefcase in hand, impeccably dressed in a formal three-piece suit—as if all earthly trivialities had been forgotten. Compared to last night, she looked… ridiculously prim and proper.
Chi Yunhan bit her lip, struggling to keep a straight face as she walked over with feigned composure. But the moment she stopped beside Jiang Muning, she lost it—breathing rapidly, cheeks puffing, and even coughing.
Jiang Muning tilted her head, giving her a deep look. “What’s so funny?”
Chi Yunhan clenched her teeth tightly. “I’m not laughing.”
She said very seriously, “I’m a very proper person. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t laugh at all, unless… hic, hahahahaha.”
Jiang Muning shot her a cold glance before striding away quickly. Chi Yunhan hurriedly locked the door and chased after her, but Jiang Muning had already entered the elevator. Not only that, but she was also throwing a tantrum, refusing to ride the same bus with her.
Chi Yunhan couldn’t pinpoint exactly where things had gone wrong. The situation had too many layers—first drunken truths, then sober embarrassment. Just when they were supposed to start a cold war after their argument, all she could recall now was how hilariously absurd it all was.
Chi Yunhan sighed wistfully.
Her cheeks ached from laughing so much.
…
At the company, Chi Yunhan temporarily set aside matters of the heart to check the email Twilight had sent. Chi Yurong’s perfume formula kept failing to meet standards, and she worried it might affect her own design—a matter directly tied to her bonus.
She was counting on that bonus to buy a car.
Fortunately, upon opening her computer, she saw Twilight’s reply.
Twilight: This design is art, unlike that bottle of wastewater. I will discuss with your company later to arrange a meeting with you to finalize this design.
Chi Yunhan replied with a simple: Let me know what time works for you.
After sending the message, Twilight didn’t respond immediately. Chi Yunhan guessed she might be busy reprimanding Chi Yurong, as two colleagues passing by her office earlier mentioned Chi Yurong throwing a tantrum—less like a goddess, more like a shrew.
In the afternoon, Chi Yunhan invited Lu Xiangyuan to unwind at the dessert shop below their office building.
When they met, Lu Xiangyuan didn’t ask directly, but her frequent glances and gossip-filled eyes made it obvious she wanted to know how things were going with Jiang Muning.
Chi Yunhan answered her, “We’re currently in a cold war.”
Then, she looked at Lu Xiangyuan earnestly. “Now I finally understand why you broke up.”
“Why?” Lu Xiangyuan asked.
“Because you—are a straight woman, a breakup expert.” Chi Yunhan said. “You don’t understand love. If I followed your advice, I’d never be able to win over my wife in this lifetime.”
Lu Xiangyuan: “?” So it’s my fault? Maybe you just didn’t use the right approach!
Although she didn’t want to bring up her past relationship, she wasn’t willing to bear the stigma of being labeled a “breakup expert.” She defended herself, “The problem with the breakup wasn’t on my end, really.”
“Then what was it?” Chi Yunhan asked.
Lu Xiangyuan gazed ahead calmly, her expression profound.
Her personality was generally gentle, especially toward Omegas—tender as water, the epitome of an excellent Alpha. She never discriminated against Omegas, earning high praise from everyone.
But at the mention of her ex, her face darkened. Struggling between speechlessness and gritted teeth, she finally said, “Because… because our compatibility score was negative…”
Chi Yunhan hadn’t even taken a sip of her milk tea before nearly choking. She coughed several times. “What? Negative? Are you sure it was negative?”
Lu Xiangyuan forced out the words through clenched lips, “Yes, negative.”
“How negative?” Chi Yunhan asked without thinking.
Lu Xiangyuan’s heart took another blow. “You’re asking me how negative?”
“My bad, my bad.”
Chi Yunhan hadn’t meant to poke at her wounds. She thought her own 30% compatibility rate was already low, but Lu Xiangyuan’s situation was even more extreme—it was actually negative. Honestly, it was the first time she’d heard of a negative compatibility rate.
Lu Xiangyuan sighed bitterly, “I’m going to buy milk tea.”
She didn’t want to talk about her own story, but she still felt guilty, so she bought Chi Yunhan a durian crepe. Just as she was about to pay, a phone beat her to it. Looking up, she saw Chi Yurong smiling at her. “Let me treat you both,” Chi Yurong said. “It’s rare to run into you here.”
Lu Xiangyuan nudged Chi Yunhan lightly with her elbow, silently asking if they should accept. Chi Yunhan put her phone away and grabbed a few more expensive desserts. “Of course we’ll take it. Why not? It’s free anyway.”
After grabbing the desserts, she turned and walked away.
Chi Yurong quickly paid and called after her, “Yunhan, stop right there.”
You tell me to stop, and I should stop? Who do you think you are?
Chi Yunhan ignored her, pulling Lu Xiangyuan along as she walked faster. Chi Yurong jogged to catch up, blocking her path. Though clearly angry, she forced a smile. “Hanhan, why are you running away?”
“Because I don’t want to see you. Is that hard to understand?” Chi Yunhan didn’t spare her any courtesy. “Now move. Don’t block my way.”
Chi Yurong suppressed her anger and said with a smile, “I have something to tell you.”
“Oh.” Chi Yunhan shot her a cold glance.
“I heard you picked up a disabled Alpha from the Assistance Center…”
“Watch your mouth,” Chi Yunhan interrupted, displeased with her wording. “If you don’t know how to speak properly, grind your face against the ground until you learn.”
Chi Yurong held back her temper and softened her tone. “Adopting an Alpha is a big decision. Why didn’t you discuss it with the family?”
“What, you think you have a say in this now?”
Chi Yunhan found their audacity unbelievable. They couldn’t be bothered to care for her when it mattered, and now they had the nerve to interfere. “Your objections don’t matter. My Alpha and I are doing great. We’re happy together, and we’re not splitting up.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Chi Yurong said. “Regardless of who they are, we respect your choice. But for things like marriage registration, weddings, and banquets, shouldn’t you at least consult the family? Let Mom and Dad meet them, don’t you think?”
She put on a gentle act again. “Introducing them to your parents would show sincerity and help solidify your relationship, right?”
Chi Yunhan tuned out most of her spiel, but the last part didn’t sound too bad. She hesitated. “I’ll think about it.”
“Good.” Chi Yurong’s lips curled as she exhaled in relief. “Your sister only wants what’s best for you.”
Deep down, she couldn’t care less about the Alpha Chi Yunhan had found. What kind of decent person could come from the Assistance Center? They were all disabled Alphas society had cast aside—filthy, deaf, or mute. Trash-bin Alphas, nothing more.
Even if this one was somehow decent, wasn’t she better than Chi Yunhan? She could just take them if she wanted.
Chi Yunhan carried the desserts to a window booth, sipping her juice absentmindedly as she switched between her personal and work accounts.
It was as if she faced the dilemma of the century—torn between work and her wife, unsure which to prioritize.
She asked Lu Xiangyuan hesitantly, “Do you think I should meet Twilight to discuss work first, or take my wife home first?”
