My Alpha Has a Split Personality - Chapter 2
Her legs were so weak—how pathetic. Thankfully, her willpower was strong, or she might have ended up kneeling on the spot.
She forced herself to stand up.
Jiang Muning reached out to take the slippers from her hands.
“Don’t move!” Chi Yunhan snapped.
Jiang Muning’s fingers froze, and the two slippers fell to the ground with a clatter. Chi Yunhan swallowed hard, only to hear Jiang Muning whisper in her ear, “You’re going into heat…”
The words were soft and tingling, each syllable like a spark that could ignite flames.
Chi Yunhan pressed herself against the door and stumbled out the moment she could move her legs. She ran without daring to look back.
She sprinted several laps against the cold wind, her body burning up until her face flushed crimson. Jiang Muning had said she smelled good—that her pheromones were intoxicating.
Having a wife was so nice. Having a wife was really, really nice!
By the time Chi Yunhan returned, she was nearly exhausted from running. The scent of pheromones at home had dissipated quite a bit, no longer as overwhelming as before. Jiang Muning must have used perfume to mask it, leaving the air with a mixed fragrance.
But Chi Yunhan’s sense of smell was sharp. Even amidst the forest-like aroma, she could still detect a faint trace of sweetness. Wow, Jiang Muning’s pheromones were sweet.
Jiang Muning stood on the balcony, seemingly trying to blow the pheromones away with the cold wind. It was kind of adorable.
Heh.
Dinner was simple, and Jiang Muning didn’t complain. Chi Yunhan was quite satisfied—her cooking wasn’t great, but judging by Jiang Muning’s expression, she was easy to please.
After the meal, Chi Yunhan cleaned up and started searching the living room for something. Jiang Muning had borrowed her dining table to work, and the two of them went about their own tasks.
“What are you looking for?” Jiang Muning glanced at her.
“The bag from the Assistance Center,” Chi Yunhan replied, scratching her head. She couldn’t remember where she’d put it. She rummaged through the sofa, then checked the cabinets. In the end, it was Jiang Muning who handed it to her.
“Thanks.” Chi Yunhan felt a little embarrassed. “I’ll read the assistance manual tonight and check your symptoms. We should understand each other better. There’s also my medical report in there—do you want to take a look…?”
It was awkward—this was private stuff, after all.
But before she could finish, Jiang Muning took the bag back. “No need. You don’t have to read it.”
“Huh? Why not?” Chi Yunhan was confused.
Jiang Muning’s expression was cold. “Because it’s unnecessary. I’m not interested in you either.”
Before Chi Yunhan could even feel hurt, Jiang Muning picked up her laptop and retreated to her room, shutting the door behind her. When she came out again, she tossed a Suppressant at her.
Before Jiang Muning arrived, Chi Yunhan had already prepared the rooms. The apartment was rented—two bedrooms and a living room, just eighty square meters. Small, but enough for the two of them.
The bedrooms faced each other, with a small bathroom in between, making it convenient for them to look after each other.
Back in her room, Chi Yunhan didn’t take the Suppressant right away. Instead, she poured herself a cup of hot water and sipped it slowly. Even though Jiang Muning refused to let her see the manual, she still needed to review it herself.
This was for both her and Jiang Muning’s sake. Their pheromone compatibility was only 30%, which was quite low. If anything went wrong, she’d be in danger—and so would Jiang Muning.
She requested an electronic copy from the staff and sprawled on her bed to read it. Before deciding on the assistance, she had already reviewed Jiang Muning’s medical records in the system.
Excessive mental energy, pheromone imbalance, declining memory—she couldn’t control her instincts from releasing pheromones, which then led to mental instability, neurological disorders, and in mild cases, memory loss. In severe cases, it could turn someone into a complete madman.
Chi Yunhan had seen this condition before—on the news. A single Alpha, due to excessively high mental energy, had gone insane and killed her newly-dating girlfriend.
Chi Yunhan shivered, a little frightened.
She quickly flipped to the last page to read the doctor’s instructions, checking how to perform soothing and resolve Jiang Muning’s symptoms as soon as possible.
And then she saw—
Cause of the problem: Generally, such symptoms occur due to prolonged singlehood, never having undergone mental energy and pheromone soothing, leading to worsening conditions. The best recommendation is immediate soothing—the sooner, the better. When necessary, engage in more… physical bonding.
Chi Yunhan: “…”
Don’t laugh. It’s 9999—who isn’t a lifelong single these days?
Chi Yunhan rolled over, clenching her fists and pounding the pillow.
Fvck! Fvck!
Hahahaha!
…
The next morning, the moment Chi Yunhan saw Jiang Muning, her cheeks twitched with the urge to laugh. She rubbed her face, and Jiang Muning glanced at her, seemingly puzzled.
Early in the morning, just after waking up, neither spoke much. They had a simple breakfast together before heading downstairs to work.
As Chi Yunhan was about to lock the door, Jiang Muning asked, “Did you bring your bus card?”
Chi Yunhan pushed the door open and went back inside.
“Laptop, work ID…”
“…”
Panting from running around, Chi Yunhan wondered—wasn’t it supposed to be “declining memory”? Why did it feel like she was the one with the problem?
Jiang Muning tore off a sheet of paper for her, listing all the essentials for work. Chi Yunhan checked it off and finally gathered everything.
“Sorry, it’s my first time assisting an Alpha. Not used to it yet.” Actually, it was her first time going to work with her wife—she was just too excited, too busy staring at her, and forgot to pack anything.
Jiang Muning looked at her neck. “Compatibility collar.”
“Putting it on now!” Chi Yunhan quickly pulled a black choker from her bag and fastened it around her neck, tucking the small key pendant into her collar. “Uh, the compatibility collar is pretty useful. If you feel unwell, you can just… come to me.”
Whenever pheromone levels exceeded the limit, both could sense it through the collar. To put it crudely, if one started feeling… aroused, the collar would signal the partner, leading to… well, certain activities.
As she adjusted it, Chi Yunhan stole glances at Jiang Muning, who had also put hers on—black, edged with delicate lace, accentuating her swan-like neck, pale and slender.
Then, Jiang Muning placed a black, mask-like object on top of her briefcase—an Alpha’s muzzle. Once worn, only the key around Chi Yunhan’s neck could unlock it.
Maybe it was because they’d spent a day together, already familiar with each other’s pheromones, but her mind conjured up some… indecent imagery. Jiang Muning, eyes red, wearing the black muzzle, breathing heavily.
The usually proud woman, now lowered, kneeling beside her legs—a ferocious beast, resentful yet forced to submit.
How she wanted to leash that neck with an iron chain.
“The Suppressant, you’ve gotten more fragrant again,” Jiang Muning said sternly as she looked at her.
Chi Yunhan rummaged through her bag for the Suppressant and sprayed herself several times. As she snapped the cap back on, she heard Jiang Muning mutter in confusion, “This cheap fragrance hasn’t gone out of business yet?”
How fragrant could an affordable Suppressant be? Besides, it was used daily. If it were too strong, not only would the material costs skyrocket, but it might also turn into artificial Pheromones, tempting Alphas. It was already a blessing they hadn’t made it smell like stink bugs.
Seeing Jiang Muning’s disgusted expression, Chi Yunhan considered tweaking the scent herself next time to avoid irritating her.
The bus was crowded. Since they had boarded early, they managed to snag a seat, but the air was thick with a chaotic mix of odors that could easily turn one’s stomach after prolonged exposure.
Chi Yunhan whispered to Jiang Muning, “If you need anything, you can use the emergency alert on the matching bracelet. I’ll come find you right away to give you Soothing.”
“I don’t need Soothing. Just don’t get too fragrant.”
Honestly, if she didn’t need it, she didn’t need it. Why did she always have to compliment her on being fragrant?
Chi Yunhan wasn’t sure whether to feel disheartened by her coldness or elated by the praise.
The two fell into silence afterward, and Chi Yunhan found the atmosphere awkward. When Jiang Muning got off at the PFE building, Chi Yunhan’s brow twitched, and she immediately thought of her chat log with Twilight.
“Do you work here?” Chi Yunhan asked.
Jiang Muning nodded.
“What’s your boss like?” Chi Yunhan pressed.
“I don’t have a boss.”
“…Huh? No boss? Then what’s your job…?” For a moment, Chi Yunhan was puzzled, but then she dismissed the thought. There was no way a capitalist would go to an Assistance Center to match with an Omega.
She looked at Jiang Muning sympathetically—she must have suffered greatly to say something like her boss was “gone.”
True, sometimes Chi Yunhan also felt that having someone like Twilight as a boss was worse than dropping dead on the spot. Of course, she only thought it privately. If they ever met, she’d still say, “Wishing you good health, success in all endeavors, a long life, and all your dreams fulfilled.”
Jiang Muning asked, “Anything else you want to know?”
“I just didn’t expect we’d dislike the same things. Seems like we really have fate on our side,” Chi Yunhan murmured. “The bus is about to leave. Go ahead—I’ll pick you up tonight.”
Jiang Muning stepped off the bus, gripping her briefcase as she walked steadily toward PFE. By the time she reached the entrance, Chi Yunhan could no longer watch—the bus lurched forward to the next stop, jolting so violently her head nearly hit the ceiling.
She really ought to buy a car.
In high spirits from her good fortune, Chi Yunhan poured herself a coffee at the office, humming softly as she walked.
Her colleagues immediately swarmed her, asking excitedly, “Did you seal the deal with the team leader? Have you already won over Twilight?”
“Twilight?” Chi Yunhan booted up her computer. Everyone glanced at the screen, where the chat log still showed yesterday’s message from Twilight: “I will never be swayed by you. Save your breath.”
The sheer arrogance of it was enough to infuriate anyone.
A group of people kept glancing at Chi Yunhan’s nape, worried her pheromones might go out of control. Although omegas aren’t affected by each other’s pheromones, there’s still an oppressive tension between them.
Surprisingly, Chi Yunhan wasn’t angry at all. She said, “Why would I be mad at Twilight? I’m actually quite easygoing. She can’t affect me.”
She coughed twice, intending to ask everyone about the compatibility ring on her neck. But they all thought she was warning them to focus on work and stop joking around, scattering like startled rabbits to attend to their tasks.
Chi Yunhan sipped her coffee as she walked, voluntarily sharing, “The alpha I rescued is worlds apart from Twilight—so soft and gentle.”
She felt a little embarrassed bringing it up since their relationship wasn’t officially defined yet. Calling her a “girlfriend” didn’t feel right, and “wife” was even more inappropriate. After praising for a while, she added, “I’m really satisfied. I’ll introduce her to you all someday.”
“Awesome!” a colleague chimed in. “Why wait? How about inviting her today? After work, we can all go out to eat together.”
Chi Yunhan nodded contentedly and continued chatting with Twilight, sending over the revised perfume bottle design.
She reassured herself: It’s fine. This time, I won’t let myself get worked up. I’m a mature, stable woman with a family now.
Yet, within just half an hour—after exchanging a few hundred messages—Chi Yunhan found herself massaging her neck with one hand while clutching a freshly filled mug of ice water in the other. Ohoho, this Twilight was truly something else.
She had never encountered such an infuriating client. What kind of person says, “Unless you find something uglier, your design will always be the ugliest in my eyes,” or “My advice? You should probably quit design altogether”?
Is this even human language? Is it?! Aaaah!
Thankfully, she had a wife now and couldn’t act impulsively. She had to tread carefully within moral boundaries—otherwise, she might have stormed into PFE with a blade to settle things with Twilight.
…
Meanwhile.
Jiang Muning sat at her desk, eyes narrowed as she flipped through documents with one hand while adjusting the collar around her neck with the other.
Her secretary couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, “President Jiang, how is the omega partner matched to you this time? Are you two getting along well?”
Jiang Muning adjusted her collar again and gave a noncommittal hum.
She was fine—just a bit… unrestrained.
Thinking about her hundreds of times a day, always wanting to… do that with her…
