My Alpha Has a Split Personality - Chapter 5
Jiang Muning finished her water, licked her moist lips, and walked to the bedroom door. As she stepped inside and closed the door, she threw a flirtatious glance at Chi Yunhan.
Her large eyes blinked lightly, her long lashes fluttering. The lace on her shoulders slipped gracefully down to her elbows.
She was so beautiful it was impossible to look away.
Chi Yunhan stared at her intently until the door shut.
A long moment later, she caught the sweet scent of watermelon and stiffly turned her head, bending down. The watermelon on the floor had shattered, its red flesh splattered, bright juice spilling out.
Chi Yunhan looked at the ruined fruit, then pinched her own face hard. How could this happen? Wasn’t Jiang Muning supposed to be a proper, serious person?
Was she blind?
Just this morning, before leaving, she had asked Jiang Muning if she was hot and if she wanted to change into something more comfortable. Jiang Muning had outright refused, saying she wasn’t hot.
So why was she dressed so… cool now?
Chi Yunhan stood there for a long time, but Jiang Muning never came back out.
That image kept flashing through her mind, making her heart pound erratically. She needed to confirm what she’d seen.
Chi Yunhan picked up the watermelon. It wasn’t completely destroyed—just split into three pieces—still edible. She wrapped it in plastic and put it in the fridge.
Then, hesitantly, she walked to Jiang Muning’s door and knocked. “Jiang Muning, I bought some watermelon. Do you want to share some?”
No response came from inside, as if it had all been Chi Yunhan’s imagination.
She scratched her head, waiting, thinking Jiang Muning would eventually come out to use the bathroom. But to her surprise, she waited so long she nearly fell asleep outside Jiang Muning’s door.
In the end, with no sign of Jiang Muning, she had no choice but to go to bed.
She dreamed that Jiang Muning was sitting by her bed, dressed in something scandalously revealing—a lace shawl draped over bare skin, slipping off her shoulders. Jiang Muning tilted her body, fingers teasing the delicate lace, pulling it up slowly. When it reached her shoulder, she arched a brow and asked, “Do you like it? If you do, I’ll take it off…”
Chi Yunhan swallowed hard, abandoning all propriety, driven by instinct. She nodded eagerly, her words stumbling.
“I like it. I really like it.”
Jiang Muning said, “But for a woman like you…” She paused, then continued, “For a woman like you, I’m very interested.”
Chi Yunhan felt like she was being tugged by an invisible rope—desperate to lunge forward but held back, struggling against an unseen restraint. Each time she tried, she was yanked back, her neck tightening, suffocating yet thrilling.
That night, Chi Yunhan was like a woman possessed—flushed hot, then chilled cold, waking once in the middle, her chest tight with frustration.
She gulped down a large glass of cold water and went to check the living room again.
Still no sign of Jiang Muning.
At this hour, she must have been asleep.
The next morning, Chi Yunhan yawned, dark circles under her eyes. She changed clothes and rubbed her face, only to freeze when she saw Jiang Muning sitting in the living room. She immediately straightened up.
Breakfast was laid out on the table—egg drop porridge, meat buns, and a plate of side dishes. Jiang Muning sat there, eating quietly.
She was dressed in a black suit, this time without a tie, but every button was fastened neatly, making her look rigid and stern. Her hair was tucked behind her ears, her sharp profile striking.
That serious demeanor made Chi Yunhan feel like she was facing a superior. Nervous, she went to brush her teeth and wash her face, then returned to sit across from Jiang Muning. Her fingers trembled as she picked up her chopsticks.
She picked up a soup dumpling, its skin thin and filling generous, with broth spilling out at the first bite. Chi Yunhan cautiously asked, “Did you come out to drink water last night?”
Jiang Muning shook her head. “No.”
“I—I saw it with my own eyes!” Chi Yunhan said excitedly. “I even dropped the melon and it split into three pieces!”
Jiang Muning frowned, looking puzzled as she asked, “What on earth are you talking about?”
Chi Yunhan walked to the fridge and opened the door. “Look.”
“…Oh,” Jiang Muning replied indifferently.
“Really! I really saw it. Take a closer look—the melon split into three… Wait, where’s my melon?” Chi Yunhan rummaged through the fridge. The melon she had dropped and smashed yesterday was now whole again—completely intact!
Was this some kind of melon magic?
Since when did watermelons have self-healing abilities?
Chi Yunhan was stunned. She stared at the melon, tapped it, and even touched it. It was chilled, not like it had just been put in. Her gaze shifted to Jiang Muning, who was sitting at the dining table, leisurely eating breakfast.
“Did you buy this watermelon?”
Jiang Muning shook her head. “No.” Then, she added, “I don’t like watermelon.”
Chi Yunhan refused to believe it. She closed the fridge door and sat across from Jiang Muning, scrutinizing her face carefully. There was no mistake—it was her. The person from last night was definitely her.
Unless Jiang Muning had an identical twin!
She got straight to the point. “Last night when I came back, I saw you dressed… very… um, that way.”
Jiang Muning looked up. “That way?”
“Sexy, alluring, seductive.” The image flashed in Chi Yunhan’s mind, and she couldn’t help but feel dazzled. So shameless! During the day, she dressed so prim and proper, but at night—so, so, so provocative.
Blushing, she added, “It looked really good.”
“…Oh.” Jiang Muning said, “Are you fantasizing about me?”
The word “fantasizing” was already putting it mildly. Her brows furrowed as she coldly swept her gaze over Chi Yunhan, as if asking, Are you imagining me inappropriately?
“That’s impossible!” Chi Yunhan had entertained some less-than-wholesome thoughts before, but her mind wasn’t that filthy!
“I’m a very pure woman, okay? It was you who dressed like that—I saw it! And you even… winked at me.”
Jiang Muning set down her chopsticks and looked at her seriously, enunciating each word. “Impossible. Absolutely impossible.”
“It’s true!” Chi Yunhan insisted.
Jiang Muning stared straight at her, unwavering, and asked, “Isn’t your heat cycle coming up?”
“Why do you ask?” Chi Yunhan did the math—it was about that time. She nodded honestly. Was Jiang Muning planning to dress like that for her heat?
Jiang Muning said, “An omega’s heat cycle can last a long time. If not managed properly, it can cause hallucinations and eventually lead to loss of rationality.”
“You’re saying I saw things because my heat is coming?”
Jiang Muning replied, “You should see a doctor.”
“…”
Absolutely not!
Chi Yunhan was certain her eyes hadn’t deceived her. She dug through the trash at home, and when she went grocery shopping in the afternoon, she even asked the auntie at the neighborhood supermarket if Jiang Muning had bought a watermelon. The auntie said she didn’t remember.
In the end, as she stared at Jiang Muning’s utterly composed demeanor, she began to doubt herself. She clutched her phone and typed out a question:
Can watermelons heal themselves?
Problem Description: It was originally broken into three pieces, but the next day, it miraculously healed itself. Has anyone else experienced this? Does the watermelon have magical powers?
1L: If you had even a single peanut to snack on, you wouldn’t be this drunk.
2L: Yes, not only can it heal itself, but my watermelon grew a beautiful woman~
3L: Why did mine split into three? OP, is your watermelon just not up to the task?
Whether the watermelon was up to the task or not, Chi Yunhan didn’t know, but… she stole a glance at Jiang Muning, who was staring at her computer. The big idiot at home was definitely not up to the task.
Since she arrived at her place, there hadn’t been even a hint of that. The one-time things got a little flirty, Jiang Muning insisted it wasn’t her doing. Definitely not up to it! Absolutely not!
Chi Yunhan was fuming.
It was Sunday, and neither of them had anything to do. Chi Yunhan sat on the sofa, glaring at Jiang Muning, who completely ignored her, speaking only in cold tones.
Chi Yunhan’s eyes grew dry from all the glaring, so she got up to do some chores. Jiang Muning would help, but she was so methodical about it—dictating how Chi Yunhan should sweep, how she should mop—so rigid, not a hint of flirtation.
Many times, Chi Yunhan asked herself: Was it really just a hallucination?
That night, Chi Yunhan pulled the watermelon out of the fridge, grabbed a kitchen knife, and slammed it onto the dining table.
Jiang Muning looked up, eyeing her warily. “What are you doing?”
Chi Yunhan took her time, wiping the knife against the watermelon a couple of times before splitting it cleanly in half with one forceful chop. “Executing the watermelon!”
Jiang Muning looked at her like she was an idiot.
An idiot executing a watermelon.
……
Later, at work, Chi Yunhan threw herself into her busy schedule, occasionally observing Jiang Muning. But not once did Jiang Muning appear in that revealing outfit again—it really did feel like a dream.
Lately, the director had been summoning Chi Yunhan frequently, urging her to finalize the design. The director called her into the office and pressed, “Twilight is visiting the company in a couple of days to discuss the acquisition. Can you finish the design within two days?”
Chi Yunhan pressed her lips together. Given Twilight’s attitude, forget two days—even if she were granted five hundred more years, she might not be able to secure this deal.
The director frowned, displeased. “Originally, the perfume bottle design wouldn’t have been assigned to you, but your sister fought for you. If you can’t prove your capability, I won’t be able to justify it. Don’t you want to prove yourself?”
Twilight was just too picky—anyone would struggle.
Chi Yunhan asked quietly, “When exactly is Twilight coming? If necessary, I can discuss it with her directly. The main issue is she never gives any feedback, just keeps saying it’s ugly. I don’t even know how to revise it.”
“That’s your problem,” the director said. “Earliest is the day after tomorrow, but if something comes up, it might be next week. Figure it out yourself.”
Two days…
She wasn’t even sure if two days would be enough to find another job.
Leaving the office in low spirits, Chi Yunhan vented to a colleague before reopening her design software.
Not long after, the director went to a meeting. When she returned, her expression had darkened. She snapped at Chi Yunhan, “What’s your problem? Don’t play games behind my back. Was anything I said wrong? If you can’t finish the design in two days, get out! Let’s see how bold you can be!”
With that, she slammed the door shut.
Chi Yunhan was stunned.
What had she even done?
At that moment, a colleague who had gone to print documents returned and said enviously, “Team Leader, you’re so lucky. When the director went to the meeting, she originally wanted to assign Twilight’s design to another team. But your sister kept defending you, arguing with our director until her face turned red and her nose flared, insisting you could definitely deliver Twilight’s design and telling her not to underestimate you. So, satisfying—I’ve long disliked that old hag.”
Chi Yunhan nearly snapped the pen in her hand.
The director’s tone might have been harsh, but it was understandable—after all, she hadn’t produced any designs yet. It wasn’t outright bullying. She had cursed the director in her heart, but she knew she was in the wrong.
But what the hell was Chi Yurong doing? “Definitely deliver the design”?
Damn it, she didn’t even want to work with Twilight in the first place!
After this, the director would probably chop her up like a watermelon.
Chi Yunhan pulled out her phone and texted Chi Yurong, Who told you to go to our director? You just want to force me to quit, don’t you? Stop pretending.
Chi Yurong replied instantly, Yes.
Then immediately withdrew it and sent, I did it for your own good.
Good my ass.
Anything involving Chi Yurong turned even good things into disasters.
It had been like this since childhood—no matter what she did, once Chi Yurong showed up, things always went south. And everyone still thought Chi Yurong was being kind to her. Gradually, no one wanted to hang out with her, and even her friends drifted away.
Noticing Chi Yunhan’s gloomy mood all day, a colleague invited her out for drinks. Normally, even if she had nothing to do, she wouldn’t go—after all, she had a wife now and couldn’t mess around outside. Family came first.
She declined, “I need to head back early. Someone’s waiting for me at home.”
“What, you’re worried your wife will run off?” teased Zuo Yijing, the colleague sitting next to her, nudging her. “Eww~ Team Leader Chi, are you actually whipped?”
Chi Yunhan flushed slightly and nodded. “Not scared, it’s just… she’s very proper, goes to bed early at night… Wait, that’s it!” she suddenly exclaimed, her mood brightening instantly after a day of gloom, her eyes sparkling.
The others stared at her, asking what was wrong.
Last time, when Chi Yunhan came home late, she caught Jiang Muning in that state. Maybe her wife was just shy and only dared to let loose when no one was around.
Hmm~
If she went back late tonight, could she catch her in the act again?
Zuo Yijing poked her shoulder, shuddering. “What’s up with you? Why are you smiling like… like it’s New Year’s?”
“Nothing!” Chi Yunhan tossed her hair back, suddenly energized. “Forget going home—I’m coming out with you guys! Tonight, I’ll be the woman who doesn’t go home!”
“Let’s go!”
