My Alpha Has a Split Personality - Chapter 6
When a group of people decide to go out and have fun, they naturally wouldn’t choose some refined place meant to cultivate one’s character. What they wanted was indulgence, the exhilarating thrill of letting loose. So, the group enthusiastically went to assemble LEGO sets instead.
After finishing, they headed to the forest park for a barbecue. Office workers have to consider their financial limits when going out to party—small-time designers can’t afford high-end bars.
Everyone chipped in some money, ensuring they could both have fun and eat well.
They bought alcohol, but Chi Yunhan wanted to indulge without drinking. Her wife was home alone—it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to go out carousing.
Besides, her alcohol tolerance was terrible. Two or three glasses would get her drunk, and if she went home wasted, what if she scared her wife?
Her colleague Xiao Li laughed, “Then just invite your wife out! You promised we’d meet her, but you still haven’t brought her around.”
Zuo Yijing chimed in, “Yeah, team leader, call her out to eat with us!”
Chi Yunhan felt a little embarrassed. The truth was, she just wanted to go home late to see her wife transform. She quickly said, “Next time, next time. Let’s skip it today. What’s the point of calling her out just for barbecue? I’ll have a little drink instead.”
If she really were to invite her wife out, she’d have to go to a proper restaurant—flowers, balloons, maybe even a candlelit dinner. She could be rough around the edges, but with her wife, she had to go all out with romance and sophistication.
When it came to alcohol, she either didn’t touch it at all or drank until she was drunk. One person poured her a glass, another handed her a cup, and soon Chi Yunhan was already feeling dizzy.
By the time it got dark, under everyone’s urging, Chi Yunhan couldn’t resist pulling out her phone to make a call. The group crowded around to listen as she cleared her throat. “I’m out with friends having barbecue. I’ll be home late.”
The person on the other end just said, “Oh.”
Chi Yunhan felt awkward with so many people listening. She added, “I’m at the forest park. Don’t wait up—just sleep on your own.”
Jiang Muning: “…Oh.” Then she added, “I always sleep alone anyway.”
Chi Yunhan continued, “I’m not drunk, just a little dizzy.”
The atmosphere turned awkward. Chi Yunhan’s urge to show off vanished instantly. Flustered, she quickly wrapped up the call and hung up, then sullenly helped everyone clean up.
About half an hour later, her phone rang again. The voice on the other end said, “I’m near the park.”
“?”
“Side gate.” Jiang Muning hung up after that.
Everyone stared at Chi Yunhan, their envious gazes practically brimming with tears. Chi Yunhan hurriedly wiped her mouth and strutted off with an exaggerated swagger. “I’m heading out first. You guys stay safe, alright?”
Her head still spinning, she ran toward the side gate, nearly bumping into people several times.
Chi Yunhan had assumed Jiang Muning wouldn’t wait for her, but as soon as she stepped out, she spotted her standing beside a phoenix tree. Jiang Muning stood perfectly straight, the shadows of the leaves pooling at her feet. Her expression was cold, almost gloomy—maybe she was getting impatient from waiting.
Chi Yunhan walked up to her and asked, “Did you come all the way here just to pick me up?”
Jiang Muning shook her head. “No. I was working.”
Chi Yunhan felt a little disappointed. “I was just hanging out with friends. I didn’t do anything. I never fool around.”
Jiang Muning kept her head down, fiddling with her phone.
“Are you even listening?” Chi Yunhan stepped in front of her. “Really, while I was eating barbecue, I kept thinking about you and got really happy. Then I drank a little…”
“What’s there to be happy about thinking of me.” Jiang Muning raised her hand, and a car pulled up beside them. She opened the door and got in, sitting in the back. Chi Yunhan followed, climbing in to sit beside her.
Chi Yunhan took out her phone to transfer money to everyone while chatting briefly. She squinted her eyes, glancing at the car seats and then at the driver in the front.
She turned to ask Jiang Muning, “My colleague said this is some new model. Is this car very expensive?”
“Not expensive. Just average,” Jiang Muning replied.
Chi Yunhan lowered her head and texted her colleague, “My wife says it’s not expensive, just average.”
Colleague replied, “…Is your wife rich?”
This was a limited-edition, brand-new Phantom, with its market price soaring into the millions. The entire city had only one! They were all stunned!
Chi Yunhan turned to ask again, “Are you rich?”
“What kind of money?” Jiang Muning asked. “Movable or immovable assets? Stocks, securities, or funds? Villas, estates, or company income?”
Chi Yunhan was overwhelmed by the question. Why was it so complicated? She was much simpler—she had no money.
A tiny salary for daily expenses, and long-term financial planning was out of the question.
Jiang Muning pressed further, “What exactly are you referring to?”
The alcohol was kicking in, and Chi Yunhan just wanted to hiccup, her brain too sluggish to process. She looked at the driver ahead and said, “I mean… I mean, money for the ride? Yeah, do you have money?”
Jiang Muning said, “I don’t pay for rides.”
Chi Yunhan typed back: “My wife has no money.”
After sending it, she looked at Jiang Muning seriously and lectured, “You have to pay for rides. Be a law-abiding citizen, got it?”
Jiang Muning ignored her, moving even farther away. Chi Yunhan scooted closer, but Jiang Muning drew an invisible line in the air with her finger. “Don’t come near me. You reek of alcohol. It makes people lose their senses.”
“Fine.” Chi Yunhan sat beside her regretfully, her eyes fixed on Jiang Muning as she occasionally lifted her phone to check her colleague’s messages.
When they got out of the car, Chi Yunhan pulled a large bill from her pocket and handed it to the driver. The driver refused, but she stuffed it through the window, saying, “Driving isn’t easy. Thanks for bringing us back tonight.”
The driver looked helplessly at Jiang Muning, who turned and walked away, signaling she wouldn’t intervene. Watching their retreating figures, the driver sighed inwardly. The omega his boss was matched with this time was refreshingly down-to-earth.
So, he pocketed the two hundred yuan.
The night was as dark as ink, their shadows stretching long under the streetlights.
Jiang Muning walked ahead, pausing every few steps. Chi Yunhan staggered behind, nearly tumbling into the flower beds several times.
Jiang Muning said, “You’re drunk.”
“No, it’s not the wine that intoxicates—it’s the drinker who intoxicates herself.”
Chi Yunhan’s words were disjointed as she clutched her bag, swaying unsteadily. She trailed behind Jiang Muning, who kept her hands in her pockets, showing no intention of offering support.
Chi Yunhan hopped closer to her and took a light sniff. “Ginger, pepper, cinnamon, bay leaves… and pork ribs.”
She murmured, “You shouldn’t use this scent. You should go for citrus, lemon, a hint of basil… some mint too, and something else…”
“Ah! And your pheromones! Sweet ones!”
Jiang Muning stopped walking and said, “I’m not wearing perfume. That’s not a perfume scent.”
Chi Yunhan blinked at her, her gaze slightly dazed as she looked into Jiang Muning’s eyes. “I can smell it… that scent on you is… it’s that kind of fragrance…”
“It’s from cooking,” Jiang Muning replied. “I made dinner at home tonight.”
Chi Yunhan swallowed, her throat dry and itchy. She finished her earlier thought, adding, “…It’s the scent of hearth and home. Were you cooking tonight to wait for me to come home for dinner?”
“No, I ate by myself,” Jiang Muning said flatly, walking briskly ahead while Chi Yunhan trailed behind, sniffing the lingering aroma on her.
The scent of hearth and home—it was still a fragrance, though modern people had drifted away from kitchens, preferring more mainstream lifestyles. Since ancient times, people had always favored more refined scents.
Floral, fruity, metallic…
Squinting her eyes, Chi Yunhan found herself redefining the scent of hearth and home for the first time. “So, this is what it smells like… and it’s actually really nice. On you.”
She rambled on, counting off spices on her fingers, while Jiang Muning pressed the elevator button and said seriously, “My pheromones aren’t sweet.”
“Well, they’re just… they’re…”
Before she could finish, the elevator doors opened. Stepping inside, Chi Yunhan immediately forgot what she was about to say. As the elevator ascended, she lost her balance and nearly crashed into the wall—thankfully, Jiang Muning swiftly caught her.
In the cramped space, the two stood close, their breaths mingling. The scent of their pheromones grew stronger, and warmth spread from where their bodies touched.
The elevator stopped at the fifth floor, and the person outside took a step back upon seeing them. “Sorry, my bad.”
Jiang Muning frowned slightly. “You’ve gotten more fragrant again.”
With that, she let go. Chi Yunhan leaned against the wall, grinning with flushed cheeks. “Stop talking nonsense. My pheromones don’t have a scent.”
“They do. A very pleasant one,” Jiang Muning insisted.
Chi Yunhan muttered under her breath, “They really don’t… my gland’s broken…”
Still, what omega wouldn’t want their alpha to call them fragrant?
She nodded emphatically. “If you say it’s nice, then it must be. Maybe it is really nice.” Then she lifted her sleeve, only catching a whiff of barbecue. “I think it smells pretty good too.”
Chi Yunhan’s apartment was on the eighteenth floor—quite high up. They exchanged a few more words before finally arriving. Fumbling with her keys, she struggled to fit them into the lock before finally managing to open the door.
Once inside, Chi Yunhan flopped onto the sofa and grabbed her laptop. She remembered she had a client named Twilight, and tomorrow was the deadline. If she didn’t submit her work, she’d be packing her things and getting fired.
“I need to work!” Rubbing her eyes, she stared at the screen, where her drawings looked haphazard. “This client of mine… she’s impossible. So picky, such a perfectionist. Keeps asking for revisions but never says what she actually wants—just tells me to figure it out myself!”
Jiang Muning tilted her head in confusion. “Is designing based on a perfume’s scent really that hard?”
“How should I know what the perfume smells like? I’ve never even smelled it! They said it’s confidential—the perfumers didn’t provide any samples. They just told me to… draw it.” The more Chi Yunhan thought about it, the angrier she got. “And then she keeps rejecting my drafts. I asked her what she likes, and she said she doesn’t like anything—that she just hates me.”
Jiang Muning listened silently before finally saying, “This client of yours is deliberately targeting you.”
Perhaps feeling that criticizing someone like this wasn’t harsh enough, she added, “She’s just wasting time. There’s no need for you to keep drawing. No matter how you draw it, she’ll reject it.”
With her wife speaking up for her, Chi Yunhan felt much better and said gratefully, “You’re absolutely right. I wish you were my client.” After a few more flattering remarks, she added, “Go take your shower. I’ll draw a bit more and submit it to her tomorrow. Whether it passes or not is up to fate.”
As Jiang Muning got up to head to the bathroom, she heard Chi Yunhan wail, “Wahhh, heavens above, open your eyes and bless me, please!”
She turned back to look at Chi Yunhan and offered a suggestion, “Check their official website. They usually preview upcoming themes there. For example, in summer, they lean toward refreshing summer scents. Do you know what a summer scent is?”
Chi Yunhan nodded vigorously. “I get it! I know perfumes pretty well! These scents usually use light fragrances, something fresh and watery—often fruity or subtle floral notes that feel calm and soothing.”
She said, “Then the bottle design shouldn’t be too fiery or passionate.”
Jiang Muning shook her head. “Sometimes a fresh aesthetic can still be paired with something bold and passionate. After all, in summer, if something is too cool, it can turn spicy. Look at their main series. If time allows, you could even go test the fragrance.”
Chi Yunhan nodded and stared at her computer, typing into the search bar: PFE quarterly new fragrance.
The last release had been “minimalist and cold,” a very popular style recently—not necessarily sensual, but simple, clean, with an office-professional vibe. The bottle design was also very straightforward, just squares and rectangles, with maybe a little embellishment on the cap.
She scrolled down and—bingo!—found PFE’s preview for the next quarter!
The teaser was, Floral and herbal scents!
Damn it! How had she missed this before?
Reading the scent description, she realized how off her previous designs had been. They really didn’t match the theme. She picked up her pencil and started sketching. This was technical work, and since she’d been drinking earlier, she soon began dozing off.
Until someone tapped her shoulder.
Chi Yunhan blinked sleepily. “You’re here. Your body wash smells nice.”
Jiang Muning hummed in response, wearing nothing but a white shirt. She hadn’t dried off completely, so parts of the fabric clung to her skin, revealing hints of pink beneath.
“Not drawing well, are you?” she remarked, glancing at the screen.
The computer was covered in messy lines. Chi Yunhan asked, “What kind do you like?”
“What I like…”
In her drowsy haze, Chi Yunhan felt someone whisper in her ear, “I like something passionate, unrestrained—better yet, something downright wanton. For example… the carnal allure of tuberose.”
Tuberose, also known as night-blooming jasmine, is the flower of lust in the world of perfumery.
Its fragrance is heavy, intoxicating, with a raw, oppressive intensity—yet under the cover of night, it blooms wildly and freely, lingering long after. Many find this scent overwhelming, but those who suit it carry a fierce, voluptuous desire.
Chi Yunhan had once blended a fragrance like this.
Her eyes fluttered open, dazed, catching glimpses of the usually prim and proper Jiang Muning sitting beside her, slowly unbuttoning her white shirt one button at a time. Beneath the white lace lay full, heaving curves…
What a beautiful tuberose.
Jiang Muning arched a brow and asked softly, “Do you want me to help you?”
