My Alpha Has a Split Personality - Chapter 7
“How… how are you helping?” Chi Yunhan looked at the person before her.
Alcohol and drowsiness surged together, making it difficult to even keep her eyes open. Her chin bumped against the table several times before the woman, fragrant like tuberose, stepped closer. Fingers gently cupped her chin as she murmured, “Be careful.”
So… so considerate.
Not only that, but the woman’s fingers trailed along her jaw, fingertips brushing against her skin as she said, “This is how I’ll help you.”
“Huh?” Chi Yunhan glanced over just as the shirt slipped down, hanging off the woman’s elbow and revealing snow-white skin. The moment Chi Yunhan straightened up, the woman leaned in—one hand tilting her chin up while the other guided her mouse-holding hand, drawing stroke by stroke, all while reminding her to lift her head and look at the computer screen.
Everything was a blur.
Chi Yunhan felt like she was being toyed with—drowsy yet unable to fully succumb to sleep.
If only… if only she were sober.
……
When Chi Yunhan woke up, she was sprawled on the living room sofa with a blanket draped over her. She blinked dazedly before bolting upright.
It was 10:30.
Damn! She was late!
Chi Yunhan scrambled up, changed into clean clothes, and dashed to the office with her laptop tucked under her arm. By the time she arrived, nearly everyone was already at their desks.
The department head stood by the entrance, sipping tea and waiting for her. He raised his wrist to show her the time. “Nice of you to join us. Finished the design draft yet? Or are you already packing up to leave today?”
Chi Yunhan had no excuse. She stood there, enduring the scolding as colleagues from other departments passed by, casting curious glances. It was humiliating—her adult dignity thoroughly trampled.
Once the head finally finished berating her, Chi Yunhan slumped into her seat and powered on her computer. Zuo Yijing handed her a yogurt. “Take it easy.”
“Thanks.” Chi Yunhan stabbed the straw in and took a sip.
Zuo Yijing asked, “Was that woman really your wife yesterday?”
Chi Yunhan nodded, her mind still foggy. In her rush to get to work this morning, she hadn’t even checked if Jiang Muning was awake yet.
Damn alcohol.
Her head throbbed from the hangover, and she couldn’t recall much of what had happened. But when she woke up, her clothes were still on properly, so… surely nothing inappropriate had occurred, right?
Better not have. If something did happen and she couldn’t remember it, how unfair would that be?
Zuo Yijing gasped. “Wow, the quality of Alphas at the Assistance Center is that high now? I heard it was basically a shelter for unwanted Alphas society didn’t want.”
“Just luck, I guess. She’s living with me now,” Chi Yunhan muttered, opening her laptop. She reached for her drawing pen, but when the screen lit up—what the hell? The draft was already finished?!
Chi Yunhan had spent last night working on it, sketching and sketching…
Had she finished it while drunk…?
Baffled, she sent the file to Twilight’s email with a message.
Twilight replied quickly, I’m not working today.
Chi Yunhan said, This is the most inspired design I’ve ever done. Please take a look—it might surprise you. I’d really appreciate it.
Twilightanswered, You’ve said that 108 times.
Chi Yunhan took a deep breath. This was too difficult. She played the sympathy card, “This is my final submission. Please take a look. Thank you so much for your guidance during this time, and I wish you the best in finding the perfect draft.”
Although she really wanted to be angry at Twilight, she still wanted to end things on a good note. Chi Yurong and the others might be heartless, but she couldn’t stoop to their level.
With that thought, Chi Yunhan closed the chat window. She checked again in the afternoon but saw no reply from Twilight, and her heart gradually grew colder.
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
Chi Yunhan was usually full of energy, able to comfort herself no matter what happened.
But this time, she was truly heartbroken.
This job was something she had found herself. Starting as an intern, she had painstakingly revised drafts one stroke at a time, taking on projects others avoided—those with picky clients—revising them dozens, even hundreds of times, slowly building her way up.
She admitted she had no innate talent, but hard work paid off. She had taken it step by step, putting in the effort to get where she was now. To have it all suddenly cut short because of one design failure—it left her feeling deeply wronged.
Even though she had resolved to give up, a part of her still clung to hope, wishing for a miracle where Twilight would approve her design.
Who knew reality could be so cruel, and people so cold-blooded?
Chi Yunhan looked up at the mirror. The person reflected in it had reddened eyes.
She raised her middle finger at herself, then adjusted her adapter ring. She had been in such a hurry that morning she hadn’t even tidied up properly.
As she stepped out, she saw Chi Yurong and the director walking past the break room, chatting and laughing.
Chi Yurong glanced at the director with an apologetic expression. “Director Zhang, I’m really sorry for my harsh words last time. I was just protective of my sister, and Yunhan… well, she’s hopeless. I appreciate your patience.”
“Ah, as long as we’ve cleared the air,” Director Zhang replied. “Chi Yunhan really is hopeless. I had high hopes for her, but who knew she’d show up late this morning? Honestly, you should just stop worrying about her. It’s ruining your reputation. Are you trying to be a ‘sister-obsessed fool’ or something?”
Chi Yurong forced a smile. “She’s still my sister.”
“HR has already sent word. The company can’t keep her. You should think about yourself first,” Director Zhang said.
As they passed Chi Yunhan, they both gave her a look of exasperation, as if she were a hopeless case.
By evening, Chi Yunhan still hadn’t received a reply from Twilight. At the end of the workday, the director called her to HR—basically telling her to pack up and leave.
Zuo Yijing spoke up. “So soon? Shouldn’t it be at least next week? What about handing over her work?”
With those two bitches teaming up, how could she not leave early?
Chi Yunhan packed her things, too fed up with even go to HR. Today had been too painful—she needed her wife to pick her up.
As she was packing, a shadow fell over her desk. Chi Yunhan looked up to see Chi Yurong standing there.
Zuo Yijing, ever perceptive, stood up. “I’ll go check with HR. Maybe there’s been a mistake. Yunhan, don’t rush to leave just yet.”
Once the door closed, the two sisters were left staring at each other.
Chi Yurong reached out to help pack, but Chi Yunhan smacked her hand away with a book. Unfazed, Chi Yurong smiled gently, the picture of a caring older sister. “So, how did it go?”
“How do you feel?” Chi Yunhan was a bit aggrieved inside, but at this moment, her anger overshadowed everything, suppressing all traces of vulnerability. “Are you still going to pretend with me? Is there even a point?”
Chi Yurong curled her lips into a smirk, removing her gloves before tapping her slender fingers lightly on the table. “Actually, resigning is for the best. After all, design isn’t your forte.”
“None of your damn business! What does it matter to you whether I’m suited for it or not?”
Chi Yunhan tossed the book into the box. So, what if she quit being a designer? She never liked it anyway. If worse came to worst, she could become a craftsman and learn glassblowing with Lu Xiangyuan.
Chi Yurong sat beside her, speaking leisurely, “I truly hope you’ll disappear from the perfume industry for good.”
Chi Yunhan clenched her fists and sneered. “Finally dropping the act? Must be exhausting playing the good person every day.”
“It really is.” Chi Yurong flashed a relieved smile. “Now that you’re finally leaving the company, I don’t have to keep up the act anymore. It feels liberating.”
Every time she was around Chi Yunhan, she felt suffocated, forced to play the role of the perfect older sister.
What a drag!
Rubbing her temples, Chi Yurong continued, “I can’t understand why someone like you was ever called a ‘perfume genius.’ Look at you—where’s the genius? Your grades were abysmal, second to last in class, with only an idiot ranking below you. Every parent-teacher meeting was an embarrassment.”
Chi Yurong had never been top of her class, but she worked hard and eventually rose to the middle ranks. That was respectable. So why did everyone look down on her?
Chi Yurong scoffed. “And yet, someone like you got an exception and was admitted. I was the top of my grade—I should’ve been the one chosen.”
“All you can do is analyze perfume components. How laughable.” After a long pause, Chi Yurong exhaled sharply. “Thankfully, you presented as an omega, stripped of all your so-called talent. Of course, you also wasted a spot. If it weren’t for you, I’d already be at PFE. You ruined me.”
An omega’s sense of smell was indeed sharper than that of alphas and betas, but they faced far more restrictions—like their pheromones. Normally, an omega’s scent was just a personal fragrance, but during heat… it became an intoxicating aphrodisiac.
Chi Yurong smirked. “And the best part? You presented as an omega during the competition and got banned for life. You’ll never qualify as a perfumer.”
What genius? What next master perfumer?
Just a joke.
This was Chi Yunhan’s lifelong pain, something she never spoke about. Yet Chi Yurong had torn open the wound and rubbed salt in it.
“Are you done?” Chi Yunhan slammed the book in her hand, the loud thud a warning that she was at the edge of her patience.
But Chi Yurong, as if addicted, couldn’t stop. “Hanging around me every day, copying others’ designs, making a mess of it—and still having the nerve to work at the same company? You disgust me. Why must you imitate everything I do? I just want you to stay the hell away from me.”
She glared at Chi Yunhan, as if wishing she’d just drop dead.
Straightening her clothes, Chi Yurong left with grace and dignity. Finally, she wouldn’t have to see Chi Yunhan anymore. No one would overshadow her brilliance again.
“A loser is bound to be scorned the moment they raise their hand, no matter if they’re right or wrong.”
Chi Yunhan clenched her fists.
She took a deep breath, reminding herself not to act impulsively—it wasn’t worth it. Arguing with such a despicable person wasn’t worth it. Endure for a moment, and peace would follow.
No. She couldn’t take it anymore.
To hell with endurance. Today, she was going to tear Chi Yurong’s face apart. Back when Chi Yurong had pretended to be nice to her, she had consoled herself, thinking at least it was some form of kindness.
Who the hell knew Chi Yurong had been deliberately bullying her all along?
No more enduring. Not even if she died!
Since she was quitting anyway, she wasn’t going to put up with this crap anymore!
Chi Yunhan stormed forward, ready to throw a punch at Chi Yurong, who dodged swiftly.
Just then, Zuo Yijing rushed in from outside and swiftly grabbed Chi Yunhan. “Yunhan, calm down first! I have good news for you!”
“I’m quitting anyway. If I don’t beat this trash up now, should I wait till New Year’s?”
Chi Yunhan was strong—she broke free in a few moves and charged toward the door.
Zuo Yijing could only shout after her, “It really is good news! Yunhan, your design got approved! HR said they’re giving you a 10,000-yuan bonus this month!”
Chi Yunhan scoffed dismissively—then froze as the words registered. She turned back to look at Zuo Yijing. “What… my design got approved?”
“Yes, yes!” Zuo Yijing nodded repeatedly. “HR called you over to give you the money. Who the hell said you were fired? Beat them to death!”
Chi Yunhan glanced at Chi Yurong in front of her. “You’re right.”
Then she rolled up her sleeves, looked at Chi Yurong, and swung a fist straight into her face. Chi Yurong, still in shock, didn’t have time to dodge and nearly collapsed.
Chi Yurong steadied herself against the desk, staring at Zuo Yijing in disbelief. “The design got approved?”
Zuo Yijing nodded. “Twilight personally said so! She even said the design was as if she had made it herself!”
Her throat burned from talking so fast, and she coughed a few times.
“How is that possible?” Chi Yurong’s face twisted in shock.
Meanwhile, Chi Yunhan laughed triumphantly.
Without a second thought, she pointed at Chi Yurong’s nose and cursed with full confidence, “Hear that? I’m staying at this company every damn day from now on! I’m going to make sure you die of anger! Die of anger! You fucking idiot!”
With the smug grin of a victor, Chi Yunhan taunted, “How about it? Are you pissed off yet? Why don’t you jump off the building and kill yourself?”
