- Chapter 10 - They're watching us... (Two)
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Sora.”
Haruto’s bright voice rang through the classroom.
At once, everyone turned their heads toward us—and the sharp-eyed ones immediately cried out in surprise.
“They’re holding hands! ”
“Eh? Whoa, they really are! ”
The classroom buzzed with noise, while Haruto smirked in triumph.
“Guess the secret’s out, Yuhito.”
“…Haruto.”
I had no idea what to say, so I did the only thing I could—I turned my eyes to Sora like a desperate prayer.
Meeting my gaze, Sora seemed to read my situation instantly. With an “ahh, I see” kind of face, he deliberately changed the subject.
“You’re late. I was about to die of boredom. That’s my tea, right? ”
“Ah, my bad, my bad. Here, catch.”
Still refusing to let go of my hand, Haruto tugged me along back to our seats.
“Thanks. Alright, let’s eat. We don’t have much time.”
“Yeah.”
Relieved at the sudden return to normalcy, I grabbed my chopsticks and focused all my attention on chewing my food. But when I glanced up, Sora was grinning at me.
“So you two finally decided to start dating, huh? ”
“—Wha—cough!!”
“Whoa, hey! You okay!? ”
The words made me choke. I tried to cover my mouth and swallow quickly, but it caught in my throat, and I hacked violently. Haruto immediately rubbed my back in a panic.
“Crap, sorry! I didn’t think you’d be that shy, Yuhito. I’ll stop teasing you, promise; just forgive me, yeah? ”
“Haha. Better do that. I’m over the moon about being with Yuhito, so I don’t mind shouting it from the rooftops, but he’s the pure-hearted type. Right, Yuto?”
Saying that, Haruto turned that ridiculously sweet gaze on me.
And—ugh, when he looks at me like that…
My cheeks burned hotter and hotter. My blinking sped up. Haruto’s eyes narrowed fondly at the sight, and he traced a fingertip lightly along my cheek.
The class erupted noisily, and my heart pounded louder and louder in sync, while Haruto’s smile only deepened in satisfaction.
