My Best Friend is so Popular it's a Problem (BL) - Chapter 4
During the break, Haruto stood up and went outside. At the same time, boys started gathering around him from all directions. Of course, this was an all-boys’ school, so there wasn’t a single girl.
…Boys swarming around another boy… It was a strange sight, no matter how you looked at it.
“Why don’t they ever learn?”
“Huh? Ah, Sora.”
While I was watching Haruto and the others start to argue in the hallway, Sora came over and sat next to me.
“Those guys must have been rejected more than once already, and yet… seriously, how pathetic.”
“Yeah, really…”
“Ow! What the hell, Haruto!”
One of the guys in the hallway suddenly shouted and crouched down. It looked like Haruto had stepped on his foot.
“Shut up! I already told you no a bunch of times, but you just keep pestering me! And you guys, I’m going to the bathroom! Stop following me!!”
Haruto kicked the nearest one and bolted down the hall.
“Ah, wait, Haruto!!”
“Wait, wait up!”
As they tried to chase after him again, Sora quickly stepped in to block them.
“At least let him go to the bathroom alone. He’s not the same as he was back in middle school. The more you cling to him, the more he’s gonna hate you.”
“…Yeah, but still—”
“Up until a little while ago, we all thought it was just a matter of time, like we were waiting our turn. We figured eventually we’d get to go out with Haruto, so now it’s hard to give up.”
“…Even so, if you keep chasing someone who clearly doesn’t want it, that’s no different from being a stalker, you know.”
“A stalker…?”
They probably wanted to say they didn’t mean it that way. But Sora’s blunt words left all of them with troubled expressions.
Still, Sora was right. Clinging to Haruto when he was so obviously rejecting them—it was already at the level where calling it stalking wouldn’t be wrong.
“…If Haruto actually had someone he liked, then maybe we could give up…”
“Yeah, I think so too.”
“Right?”
“Yeah…”
“…You guys, seriously.”
Looking at their faces, still unwilling to let go as long as there was even the slightest opening, Sora gave them a weary, exasperated look.
