My Black Moonlight Wife Says She Loves Me - Chapter 19
The next morning, when Huo Jianan woke up, Ruan Nianning was still asleep. Her long hair spilled across the pillow and duvet, her eyes closed naturally, eyelashes fluttering gently against her snow-white skin. Without her usual sharp alertness, she radiated a soft, rosy glow. The sleeping Ruan Langlang looked docile and utterly adorable.
Huo Jianan carefully lifted her side of the duvet, tucked the corners around Ruanruan Langlang, and skillfully transferred herself to her wheelchair. She went to the bathroom to wash up, then returned to the sofa and patiently dressed herself.
It took considerable time and effort, and by the time she was adjusting her pant legs, she was breathing heavily. But she was overjoyed—she had finally managed to dress herself without assistance.
As she headed out, she found Grandma Huo finishing breakfast. Butler He draped a coat over her shoulders, handed her a handbag, and prepared to escort her out. Huo Jianan called out “Grandma” from the stairwell before taking the elevator downstairs.
“Grandma, are you going to the company?” Huo Jianan’s voice carried a hint of envy. She longed to prove herself and become a powerful business leader like her grandmother, a queen of the commercial world.
Grandma Huo was quite surprised. Her granddaughter had always been a late sleeper, so waking up this early was practically impossible.
“Why are you up so early?”
“I guess being in the hospital these past few days has messed up my sleep schedule.”
“Where’s Nianning? Did she let you come down here alone?” Grandma Huo frowned, displeased by Ruan Nianning’s absence.
Huo Jianan’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly pulled her grandmother closer. “Grandma, don’t be angry. I snuck down here myself. I wanted to show you I can manage the stairs on my own now.”
“You’re being reckless again!” Though Grandma Huo’s tone remained stern, her expression softened slightly. “Just be careful. Remember, you’re the Huo Family’s only granddaughter.” She turned to Butler He. “When will Xiao Man be back?”
“Madam, it will likely be a few more days. Her father passed away, and she’s the only child. She needs to stay for the seven-day mourning period.”
Grandma Huo nodded. “Since Xi’en is away on business, have Xiao Tao take care of Nannan these next few days. She’s been with the Huo Family for years; she can cover for Xiao Man. As for Xi’en’s affairs, have Sister Wang oversee them.”
“Very well, Madam.”
Seeing Grandma Huo preparing to leave, Huo Jianan spoke up, “Grandma, I have something I want to tell you. It will only take a few minutes.”
Grandma Huo glanced at her, then turned to Butler He. Understanding the unspoken cue, Butler He pushed Miss Huo into the small reception room inside, and Grandma Huo exited.
The small reception room was now occupied only by Grandma Huo and Huo Jianan.
“What is it you wanted to say?”
“Grandma, I’ve made up my mind. I want to join the company. This isn’t a whim or a passing fancy. I’m a member of the Huo Family, and I’ve enjoyed all the privileges that come with it. I should take responsibility for my role and contribute to the family’s continued success.”
Huo Jianan’s eyes shone with sincerity as she spoke earnestly, “However, I’m not ready yet. I have an urgent matter to attend to first. I can’t disclose the details at this time.”
The previous night, Huo Jianan had lain awake for hours, thinking about her new status as a member of the Huo Family and her future living alongside Grandma Huo, Meng Xi’en, and Ruan Nianning. She realized that her most pressing task was to uncover the truth behind Ruan Nianning’s mother’s death and understand the root of Ruan Nianning’s hatred toward the Huo Family.
Ruan Langlang lay beside her, finally having gotten her way for once. She had fallen asleep before Huo Jianan, her breathing even and punctuated by soft, adorable snores, like a little animal purring in its sleep.
Huo Jianan gazed at the sleeping figure beside her, a faint smile curving her lips.
If Ruan Langlang weren’t consumed by hatred, she would be a spirited and endearing girl—and undeniably beautiful.
Huo Jianan sighed softly in the darkness. The most direct way to understand Ruan Nianning’s hatred would be to confront her directly, tell her she was seeking revenge against the wrong person, and warn her of the devastating regret and guilt that would drive her to suicide.
But Huo Jianan knew she couldn’t do that. If she revealed the truth, Ruan Nianning would immediately suspect her, and her identity as a transmigrator would likely be exposed.
Should she confess to Ruan Nianning, tell her that she wasn’t the real Huo Jianan, that the person inhabiting this body was no longer the daughter of her enemy?
How would Ruan Nianning react? Would she dismiss such a fantastical tale as nonsense? Or would she cruelly inform Grandma Huo, “This person isn’t your granddaughter! Your precious granddaughter is long gone!” using this revelation to strike at the Huo Family?
What would Grandma Huo’s reaction be? Would she be so shocked that her heart condition would flare up, leading to a fatal attack, allowing Ruan Langlang to finally exact her revenge? Or would she interrogate Jianan relentlessly, demanding to know where her real granddaughter was? Would she then hand Jianan over to research institutions to be studied, all in a desperate attempt to find her lost granddaughter?
Huo Jianan’s heart pounded in her chest. She ultimately decided to hold back for now, waiting for the right opportunity to act.
Upon hearing this, Grandma Huo paused, studying her granddaughter anew. Since Jianan’s marriage, her personality and temperament had changed drastically. Even the way she looked at people had shifted, becoming more mature and resolute.
In the two years they had lived together, the grandmother and granddaughter had spoken less than they had in the past two days combined.
Grandma Huo couldn’t help but wonder if she truly understood this granddaughter at all.
If Jianan genuinely harbored such ambitions and was willing to put in the effort, with Grandma Huo’s guidance over the next few years and Xi’en’s assistance, perhaps the Huo Corporation could indeed be entrusted to her.
Grandma Huo didn’t ask what this “important matter” was.
“Alright, proceed according to your own plans. Go take care of your important matter first.”
Huo Jianan racked her brains: Should I confess? Should I confess? Should I confess? Forget it. My wife’s so fierce, I’m scared!
Ruan Nianning thought to herself:Â Huo Xiaotu has eight hundred tricks up her sleeve. If I don’t kiss her every day, she’ll start acting up.
