My Black Moonlight Wife Says She Loves Me - Chapter 6
After a long while, Ruan Nianning still hadn’t heard anyone call from the room. Growing concerned, she returned to check on Huo Jianan. In the sunlight, the girl sat on the bed, quietly scrolling through her phone while massaging her leg.
A fresh wave of emotion stirred in Ruan Nianning’s eyes.
Huo Jianan was fiercely protective of her legs. Butler He had told her that, except when bathing, she even slept in thin, breathable stockings that stretched to her thighs, hidden beneath her nightgown. Last night, on their wedding night, Ruan Nianning had followed Grandma Huo’s instructions to massage Jianan’s legs before bed, hoping to aid her recovery.
“She hates anyone looking at or touching her legs,” Grandma Huo had said. “But she adores you, she’s utterly captivated by you. Perhaps she won’t resist your massages.”
Ruan Nianning had anticipated some resistance, but she hadn’t expected Jianan’s reaction last night to be so intense. Her shock and agitation were as if she were learning about her leg disability for the first time.
Yet now, Huo Jianan, who had always refused to acknowledge her legs, was massaging them herself, and she even seemed to be in good spirits.
Ruan Nianning raised an eyebrow. This heiress was truly capricious, her moods shifting like the weather.
Huo Jianan sensed someone entering and looked up. Seeing it was Ruan Nianning, she smiled. “Wife, what are you looking at?”
Ruan Nianning coughed and stepped inside. “Nothing much. I just came to check on you.”
“Don’t worry, I’m fine,” Huo Jianan said, pointing to the empty water glass on the cabinet. “Wife, tell Butler He to get me a small water dispenser—the kind with both hot and cold water—with the spout facing me. That way, I can just scoot over from the bed and pour myself a drink whenever I want.”
Ruan Nianning: “You only need to ask. Sister Wang and Sister Mei would be happy to pour for you.”
Huo Jianan chuckled. “I’m disabled, not helpless. I can still manage simple things like this myself.”
Ruan Nianning: “……”
Huo Jianan seemed to have changed significantly.
“Miss!” The next moment, Butler He appeared in the doorway, his face beaming with joy.
“Butler He, what brings you here?”
“Madam asked me to check if you and the Young Mistress need anything, and to ask you to choose the menu for dinner.”
Butler He produced a tablet and swiped across the screen, revealing a menu.
“Wow!” Huo Jianan exclaimed, instantly energized by the elaborate ordering method.
“Is this fish good? Does it have bones? What about this chicken? And this… and this…”
Ruan Nianning watched quietly from the side. Huo Jianan seemed particularly enthusiastic and hungry, ordering six or seven dishes in quick succession. Suddenly remembering she hadn’t asked Ruan Nianning’s opinion, she quickly asked, “Honey, what do you want to eat?”
Ruan Langlang was the nickname Huo Jianan had secretly given Ruan Nianning in her heart.
“Anything is fine,” Ruan Nianning replied. “You can decide.”
Again with the “you can decide”?
But I just transmigrated! How am I supposed to know what she likes or what she can’t eat?
Huo Jianan blinked and turned to Butler He. “What dishes does the Young Mistress usually enjoy? Any recommendations?”
“How about coconut chicken?”
“Sounds good. Let’s have coconut chicken.”
“Sweet and sour pork is another favorite of hers.”
“Okay, definitely add that. And two seasonal vegetable dishes.”
“Very well, Miss.” Butler He put away the tablet. “Miss, would you prefer to dine in bed or at the dining table?”
“At the dining table, I love looking at a table piled high with dishes while I eat. It makes me feel so satisfied and happy.”
Huo Jianan’s eyes lit up at the thought of a table laden with delicious food.
Butler He found Miss Huo’s unusually cheerful mood today a bit odd. But wasn’t this the kind of cheerful demeanor that Madam and everyone else had been hoping for?
He went to instruct the chef to prepare dinner. “Here’s the menu for tonight. Miss Huo and the Young Mistress’s dishes should be light and flavorful, not too oily or salty.”
After giving the chef his instructions, Butler He called Grandma Huo. “Madam, everything is fine with Miss Huo. Her appetite is good; she ordered several dishes she usually wouldn’t even look at. She also said that just because she’s temporarily immobile doesn’t mean she can’t do anything. She asked us to prepare a small water dispenser so she can pour her own water.”
On the other end of the line, Grandma Huo was silent for a long moment. “Did she really say that?”
“Yes, Madam. Miss Huo said it to the Young Mistress, and I happened to overhear,” Butler He replied, sighing. “Miss Huo has truly changed since getting married. When I went to her room earlier, she had drawn back the curtains and was even massaging her own legs.”
“Really?”
“Yes, Madam, it’s true.”
A moment of silence hung on the other end of the line. “So, this marriage was a good match after all?” she mused, as if seeking confirmation from someone else while also talking to herself.
Butler He dared not interrupt, holding the phone respectfully as he awaited Grandma Huo’s further instructions.
“Take good care of them at the hospital these next few days.”
“Yes, Madam.”
Dinner had been arranged on a table outside the hospital room, and a small water dispenser had been placed on the bedside table, its spout positioned directly across from the bed.
When Sister Wang and Sister Mei moved to help Huo Jianan onto the wheelchair, she stopped them. “I can manage myself.”
She had just watched a video on her phone demonstrating how people with disabilities transfer from a bed to a wheelchair independently. Besides, the wheelchair she was using had been custom-made by the best company abroad, ensuring top-notch quality and full functionality.
She was grateful for the Huo Family’s financial clout.
Huo Jianan first scooted to the edge of the bed, letting her legs dangle naturally. She gripped the wheelchair’s armrest with one hand, then pushed firmly against the bed with the other, using the momentum to shift her hips. With a smooth motion, she successfully settled into the wheelchair.
Sister Wang and Sister Mei stood by, nervously wiping their sweaty palms, terrified that the young lady with the bandaged head might fall again. Only when Huo Jianan was safely seated in the wheelchair did they finally exhale in relief.
“See? I told you I could get into the wheelchair myself,” Huo Jianan said with a smile.
Butler He beamed sincerely. “Yes, yes, we were just being overly cautious and underestimated you, Miss.”
“Let’s go eat. I’m starving.”
Ruan Nianning pushed the wheelchair toward the dining room.
Though this was a hospital, the private room was furnished like a presidential suite, complete with a master bedroom, guest room, living room, dining room, kitchen, and even a conference room. Huo Jianan, the country bumpkin, couldn’t help but marvel. If she hadn’t been reborn as a wealthy heiress, she never would have imagined that VIP hospital rooms could be this luxurious.
Huo Jianan had a hearty appetite, sampling every dish with gusto. She loved everything; she rarely refused food, especially when it was such high-end cuisine. Butler He’s face nearly split into a flower as he watched the young lady eat with such delight.
Ruan Nianning watched Huo Jianan devour her meal, her eyes shining and her head practically buried in her bowl. Yet a nagging unease began to stir in her heart.
Huo Jianan had always been indifferent to food, requiring constant coaxing and sometimes even hand-feeding to take a bite or two.
But now? She didn’t need Ruan Nianning to feed her at all. In fact, Ruan Nianning felt like she was less interesting to Huo Jianan than the table full of dishes.
Ruan Nianning’s anxiety deepened as she recalled how, during the day, she had initiated a kiss, only for Ruan Langlang to break character by not responding enthusiastically and even pushing her away.
“Honey, why aren’t you eating? Don’t you like the coconut chicken and sweet and sour pork?” Huo Jianan asked, noticing her wife had barely touched her food. She kindly served Ruan Langlang some chicken and pork, adding, “I know you celebrities are strict about your figure, but your health comes first. Eat something—it won’t make you gain weight.”
Huo Jianan smiled warmly at Ruan Langlang, her usually dark and heavy eyes lighting up with a bright, radiant glow that radiated warmth.
Ruan Nianning paused, nodded, and turned to serve Huo Jianan some leafy greens. “Eat some vegetables too. Don’t just eat meat all the time.”
“Okay,” Huo Jianan replied, reluctantly accepting the greens despite her aversion to vegetables, unable to refuse her wife’s concern.
In truth, Ruan Langlang wasn’t a bad person. She was loyal to her friends, warm-hearted, and kind. It was only when hatred consumed her reason, driving her to near madness, that she resorted to unscrupulous methods.
Huo Jianan thought that once she unraveled the mystery behind Ruan Langlang’s deep-seated hatred, the woman would no longer be manipulated and might not target the Huo Family. By then, if Ruan Langlang still wanted a divorce, Huo Jianan would ask Grandma Huo to provide her with a sum of money to live comfortably for the rest of her life.
Ruan Nianning: Huo Jianan, come here and get a beating!
Huo Jianan (running over with a pot on her head): Why do you want to hit me?
Ruan Nianning: Am I more attractive, or is the food more attractive?
Huo Jianan: The food.
Then a brutal beating ensued~~~
