My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Details
Fang Ci was startled several times tonight, and of course, it wasn’t just because He Chi suddenly came back. He hadn’t made He Chi’s portion, so he asked if he wanted him to fry a piece of cod. He Chi, however, said he could have the same thing as him.
Fang Ci confirmed with him several times before serving him some of the noodles he had made. The two of them sat at the dining table eating the crayfish noodles. Fang Ci secretly glanced at He Chi out of the corner of his eye while eating. He Chi’s expression didn’t change as he ate, and he even said Fang Ci’s cooking was good. Fang Ci couldn’t help but ask, “Is it really okay?”
The answer was: no.
CEO He’s face didn’t turn red and his heart didn’t beat faster while he was eating, but his stomach started to ache afterward, knocked out by the chili.
Fang Ci wanted to laugh but held it in. There was no medicine box at home, so he ordered some via delivery. “Take this medicine. This brand is very effective.”
CEO He reluctantly took a sip and frowned.
The medicine had a strong taste; Fang Ci knew that, but this was the first time he learned that He Chi couldn’t handle spicy food and didn’t like taking medicine.
This slightly weak He Chi eliminated some of the distance between them, and he suddenly transformed from an unattainable CEO into an ordinary person.
“If you drink it quickly, the taste won’t be as strong, or you won’t be able to go to work tomorrow.” How could a workaholic allow himself to not go to work? This phrase indeed worked on He Chi. He froze for a few seconds, closed his eyes, and gulped it down.
Putting the cup down, He Chi’s gaze met a pair of smiling eyes and he paused.
“In the future, you should stick to cod and salad. Chili isn’t healthy, and your stomach can’t handle it,” Fang Ci said.
He Chi grunted and asked, “You like it?”
Fang Ci: “My dad loves chili, so I’ve been trained since I was a child.”
Finally, after all the fuss, Fang Ci heard He Chi ask, “How did you know I like cod?”
Fang Ci: “Assistant Shang mentioned it.”
He Chi: “Don’t ask others about things like this in the future.”
Fang Ci looked at him. He Chi said, “Just ask me.”
The two of them lay on their sides facing each other on the pillows. The light from the desk lamp was dim, and He Chi’s face was just a blurry outline. He looked much softer than the person in the office during the day. Fang Ci’s heart also inexplicably softened a little. “Okay, I’ll remember.”
That night passed in a bit of a chaotic way.
Because of the previous day’s shopping, the next morning the table had more food, including soy milk, small wontons, and warmed-up sandwiches. The room was steamy. He Chi’s stomach felt much better. Fang Ci was relieved to see him back to normal. He had been close to taking down his boss. He was lost in thought, finished his meal in a couple of bites, and went to pour cat food for Qiumiu.
Qiumiu, this Ragdoll cat, was very well-behaved. It ate and slept on time every day, was very clingy yet sensible. Fang Ci didn’t know how He Chi trained it, but it was the most obedient cat he had ever seen, and it was good-looking too.
In the morning, he would check the cat food, adding a few dried fish or canned cat food at the right time. Qiumiu got used to this routine in two days, squatting by its bowl every day waiting for him to feed it, but today, he didn’t see the cat.
He had a feeling and went to check the litter box, where he saw Qiumiu curled up by the side, its eyes and nose streaming. Just as Fang Ci was about to reach out and hug it, it threw up in the litter box.
It was both sensible and pitiful.
He quickly hugged it and looked for its “father.” “CEO He, Qiumiu seems to be unwell.”
Qiumiu whimpered a couple of times, trying to throw up. Fang Ci stroked its head, and he couldn’t help but think of how He Chi had looked yesterday. He went to the living room and found a few chewed-up pieces of chili by the sofa.
Holding the chili bits, he was completely baffled. He had clearly thrown them in the garbage can last night, and the can had a lid!
“It probably dug them out itself.” Seeing Qiumiu’s mouth open, He Chi covered it with a towel.
Qiumiu completely wilted.
The most urgent thing was to take it to the hospital. The two of them quickly got ready and took Qiumiu out. On the way, Fang Ci said, “I’m sorry. This was my oversight.”
He Chi: “It’s not your fault. It just can’t control its mouth.”
Fang Ci laughed at that. He Chi obviously realized what he was thinking, and a rare hint of embarrassment flashed across his face. Although it was fleeting, Fang Ci caught it.
It was a little cute.
The animal hospital was not far from home. He Chi asked the doctor for a solution, and the doctor suggested putting it on an IV drip. Since both of them had to work, Qiumiu could stay at the hospital for a day of observation.
Most cats are afraid of going to the hospital, and Qiumiu was no exception, lying crookedly in the specially prepared cat bed with tears in its eyes. Fang Ci bought it a few snacks and left them at the hospital.
“It hasn’t finished the ones at home,” He Chi reminded him.
Fang Ci said, “I think the snacks sold at this hospital are very nice.”
The animal hospital was well-funded. All the cat food and supplies were imported, and even the small biscuits were shaped differently from the ones at the supermarket. He Chi watched Fang Ci pick out a few bags of fish-shaped ones, only stopping when he couldn’t carry any more.
Fang Ci seemed to have a special interest in picking out food.
The hospital’s service was excellent, and they even gave them a large bag of hairball paste. Fang Ci was very satisfied.
The two of them stayed at the hospital for a short time. After dealing with Qiumiu, they got back in the car.
“Did you used to have pets?” He Chi asked.
Fang Ci: “No, my mom is allergic to cat and dog hair. When I was little, I only had a budgie, but we gave it away because it was too noisy. My dad loves animals and struggled for a long time, but my mom convinced him to give up, saying I was enough to handle.”
“Lively”? That was an interesting word. He Chi smiled slightly.
“How many years have you had Qiumiu?” It was only then that Fang Ci realized he didn’t know how old Qiumiu was.
He Chi: “Two years.”
Fang Ci’s mind wandered. What a coincidence. It was the same year he joined the company.
“My partner gave it to me. There were four kittens in the litter, and the others were all given to pet stores.”
“Why did you keep Qiumiu?”
He Chi: “It was frail, and the pet store was afraid of having problems, so they didn’t want it. I decided to try and raise it.”
Fang Ci smiled and said, “Then you’re quite talented.” Qiumiu was now a ball, literally. It had been born weak, but had overcome that with He Chi’s help.
He Chi: “I didn’t know much at first, but I got used to it.”
Fang Ci touched his nose and chimed in, “Yeah.”
Buildings sped past outside the car window. At an intersection, an Audi pulled up next to them. Fang Ci looked out the window and saw the woman in the passenger seat feeding a piece of marshmallow to the man in the driver’s seat. Not content with just that, she also gave him a kiss. The 60-second red light was filled with sweetness. It was sickeningly sweet for a morning.
Fang Ci pulled his gaze back and glanced at He Chi, who was also in the driver’s seat. His sharp facial features seemed very suitable for kissing, but it probably wouldn’t happen between the two of them.
He had actually wanted to ask He Chi if he was getting used to him, but it felt too sentimental to ask.
Their current arrangement was good enough, and he was quite content.
Work was as busy as ever. Fang Ci tried to finish up as early as possible. The animal hospital closed at 8 p.m., so they had to go pick up Qiumiu early. With a deadline, his efficiency was surprisingly high. Fang Ci finished his work at 7 p.m. Today, He Chi also rarely worked overtime, and the two of them went straight to the hospital.
Qiumiu perked up in its cage when it heard their footsteps. It seemed to be completely fine.
“Pay attention to its diet in the future. It’s better for cats to eat bland food,” the doctor advised.
Fang Ci balanced the perfectly round Qiumiu in his arms and agreed with the doctor. “Control your mouth and move your legs. Maybe you should skip a meal every day from now on.”
Qiumiu: “?”
Fang Ci put it in his bag.
It had been a busy day. When they got home, Fang Ci started to think about dinner again. He Chi hadn’t thought of eating as such an important matter before, but Fang Ci seemed to have a wonderful sense of ritual about it. So he stood next to him, watching him take vegetables out of the fridge, and the two of them seriously discussed what to make.
“Don’t you feel happy when you eat something delicious?” Fang Ci asked him.
He Chi raised an eyebrow. Fang Ci probably understood that a busy person couldn’t be measured by normal standards.
Unfortunately, a small problem occurred while cooking. The water dispenser was broken. He Chi temporarily ordered bottled water via delivery. After Fang Ci finished cooking, he noticed a few scattered items in the bag. He rummaged through and found they were snacks.
Things like small biscuits and potato chips. His eyes lit up.
“Do you like snacks?” He Chi asked.
Fang Ci smiled and replied, “Yes, I like them. I can eat them on weekends.”
He Chi nodded, his expression calm, but a feeling he couldn’t quite describe, something like joy or happiness, stirred in his heart.
Fang Ci also noticed that the biscuits were shaped like small fish. It didn’t seem like He Chi’s style at all, like something you’d give to a child.
He looked up at He Chi, and for the Nth time that day, his heart softened. He said, “Thank you.”
He Chi was stunned and pursed his lips. “You’re welcome.”
