My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: Guesses
After the last dinner, Wei Lin only stayed at home for a day before he couldn’t resist going to see He Chi. It was the first time in a year that he had stepped into the commercial high-rise where Zhiyun was located.
The building was in a prime location. Zhiyun Technology shared the same building with a financial institution and required a keycard for access. He had forgotten to activate his new Director’s Card and stood in the elevator like an idiot.
Just as he was considering going back out to make a call, a handsome young man with a clear face came in from outside, wearing a mask. He casually pulled out his card, swiped it on the machine, and after he was done, Wei Lin quickly pressed the 19th floor.
The young man in front of him seemed to glance at him. The elevator stopped at the 5th floor and he asked, “Which company are you going to?”
Wei Lin answered, “Zhiyun Technology.”
The man was silent for a few seconds. “Zhiyun Technology moved to the 20th floor this year.”
Wei Lin: “…”
“Are you here for an interview?”
Wei Lin: “I’m here to see CEO He of Zhiyun Technology.”
Whether it was his imagination or not, the young man looked at him for a few extra seconds. “The CEO’s office is on the 22nd floor.”
Wei Lin: “…” Floors above 20 were prime real estate, with shockingly high prices. He remembered they were on floors 15 to 20 just last year.
He laughed awkwardly. “Hahahaha, I didn’t expect the company to change so much in a year. He Chi is pretty capable.”
The young man’s eyes showed a hint of a smile, making his eyes crinkle and look exceptionally bright.
“Yes, our CEO is very impressive.”
The elevator dinged and stopped. The two of them got out together.
Wei Lin watched the young man turn and walk into the product team section. He let out a soft “Tsk” and went to find He Chi.
He Chi’s office was empty, so he sat on the sofa in the outer room, waiting. While he was texting, the head assistant, Yuan Cheng, walked by and caught a glimpse of him.
“CEO Wei.”
This title was just a polite formality. Wei Lin had no official title at the company, just a director position, and only a few people close to He Chi knew about it. Regular employees wouldn’t recognize him.
Wei Lin greeted him. “Xiao Yuan, where’s your CEO He?”
Yuan Cheng: “He’s in a meeting. If you had said you were coming, I would have told him in advance.” With that, he turned, grabbed a cup of water, and placed it in front of Wei Lin.
Wei Lin: “I just came by for a look. No need for special treatment.”
Naturally, Yuan Cheng had to be polite to a director. “Would you like to join the meeting?”
Wei Lin felt his scalp tingle. “No, you know I hate meetings.”
Yuan Cheng chuckled.
Wei Lin took a sip of water, thought for a moment, and then gestured for him with a serious expression. “Come here, I want to ask you something.”
Yuan Cheng thought it was something important. He put the documents he was holding on the sofa and leaned closer. “Yes?”
Wei Lin: “You’ve been with He Chi for so long, have you met his new partner?”
Yuan Cheng was astonished, then shook his head. “Well… no.”
“The spouse hasn’t been to the company. You know CEO He keeps his work and private life separate and doesn’t handle personal matters at the office.”
Wei Lin looked baffled. “Why hasn’t anyone met them?”
The question sounded strange at first, but on second thought, it was true. No wonder Wei Lin was getting more and more curious. He Chi was keeping his partner so well-hidden. Who could this treasure be?
During the time since he flew back from abroad, he had been pestering He Chi for information whenever there wasn’t anything important to do, but he was always coldly rebuffed. But that’s how people are; the more you hide something, the more curious others get. Wei Lin wanted to go to He Chi’s house to find out for himself.
Unfortunately, He Chi wouldn’t allow it.
There was no other way, so he had to try his luck at the company.
“You came to the company today just for this?”
Wei Lin looked at him strangely. “Isn’t this important?”
Yuan Cheng was speechless. To be honest, he was curious too; he just didn’t dare to show it in front of He Chi.
He had even placed a bet on the anonymous company forum, from whether the person was male or female, to which big shot’s child they were. Who doesn’t love a bit of gossip?
It seemed this difficult task had to be handed over to the right person. Wei Lin, his business partner and rich friend, was perfect for the job.
“You really care about CEO He,” Yuan Cheng said with emotion.
Wei Lin: “I should.”
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as he wished. Not only did he not meet He Chi’s partner, but he didn’t even get to see He Chi himself. Today’s meeting was exceptionally long. Wei Lin went from being full of expectation to full of irritation.
Unable to sit still, he went out to get some air.
Fang Ci was at his desk, going over a proposal with his team members. They had gone through more than ten revisions, and everyone was exhausted. Cheng Wen tried to say, “This is good enough, right?” several times, but was stopped by a look from Fang Ci.
After a few more discussions, Cheng Wen patted his chest. “Damn, this is so much work. I want to quit every day!”
Fang Ci: “Patience is a double-edged sword.”
Xiao Zhu held on with his last breath. “Better a quick and clean cut. I’m for it. Otherwise, if there’s a problem and it gets to CEO He, the consequences will be even worse!”
Fang Ci revised a few parameters and said, “I’ve submitted it. Let’s wait for the response.”
Cheng Wen glanced at him, unable to resist. “Your look just now was terrifying. I almost thought you were possessed by CEO He.”
Xiao Zhu also nodded. “Don’t even mention it. Your style is getting more and more similar to his. I remember it wasn’t like this when little Ci-Ci first joined.”
Cheng Wen mimicked him. “Yeah, when you were an intern, you were ‘senior this’ and ‘senior that,’ and you even called me ‘big brother.’ Look at him now!”
Fang Ci was a little flushed at the tips of his ears, perhaps from one of the words they used. “Bull!”
Cheng Wen: “Come on, call me ‘big brother’ again. Let me relive the sweet memories of the past!”
Just as Fang Ci was about to refuse, a person appeared by his cubicle, greeting him with a big smile. “Oh, it’s you.”
Fang Ci turned his head. It was the man he met in the elevator.
His clothes didn’t look like he was here for an interview, and the people related to He Chi were few and far between. He was probably a collaborator or an investor. Fang Ci was very polite to him.
“You’re working on AP?” The man glanced at Fang Ci’s computer screen.
Fang Ci nodded. Cheng Wen tugged on his sleeve and whispered, “Who is this person? Do you know him?”
“Just met him, so you could say I know him, right?” The man continued to reply with a smile.
He seemed very interested in the product. He scanned it with his eyes and pointed at the numbers on the screen. “I’m familiar with these. I suggest you adjust the parameters down and prepare two versions of the plan. There’s a slight issue with the hardware procurement channels this time. Your CEO He hasn’t decided which one to use yet.”
Cheng Wen’s eyes widened. “How do you know that?”
The man raised an eyebrow. “I just know.”
Cheng Wen was speechless.
Fang Ci had a rough idea of this person’s identity now, so he did as he said and added an extra note.
Cheng Wen and Xiao Zhu: “?”
“Not bad, you’re quite obedient.” Wei Lin praised him with a smile.
Wei Lin leaned in too close. Fang Ci took a step to the side and continued to be polite. “Do you want to see other parts?”
Wei Lin shrugged. “No, too much trouble. I don’t deal with these things.”
He was a few centimeters taller than Fang Ci. Up close, at a 45-degree angle, he could see Fang Ci’s thick eyelashes. His skin was clear, and his demeanor was quite special, somewhere between the sharpness of a young man and the openness of a teenager. He was beautiful in a way that was hard to forget.
His gaze briefly passed over his eyes and brows. After looking for a while, he felt a strange sense of familiarity.
A very strange feeling, but he couldn’t quite remember.
Cheng Wen was stunned for a moment, then leaned over to Fang Ci and asked, “Excuse me, who are you?”
Wei Lin: “Just call me Brother Lin. I’m definitely older than you guys.”
Cheng Wen couldn’t bring himself to say it. Wei Lin winked at Fang Ci. Fang Ci thought, He Chi’s partner has such a familiar personality.
Wei Lin didn’t get to wait for the young employees to speak before he was caught by Yuan Cheng and taken into the office.
He Chi was back.
Wei Lin excitedly rattled on to He Chi, “You know what, I just walked around the cubicles, and the new employees are all really good-looking. Much more pleasant to the eye than those old geezers at state-owned enterprises. A cause for celebration!”
“You came to the company to take a stroll?” He Chi’s eyes never left his computer screen.
Wei Lin said, “Of course not. I was waiting for someone.”
He Chi finally looked up this time. Wei Lin continued, “Isn’t your partner coming to pick you up after work?”
He Chi: “If you have nothing to do, I can call your father and have him apply for a job for you here.”
Wei Lin quickly waved his hands. “No! Don’t! I’ll just sit here quietly, okay?” With that, he settled into the sofa with his legs crossed. He didn’t do anything else, just played a candy-crushing game on his phone.
He Chi ignored him and continued to work. Yuan Cheng took a stack of documents, and then Fang Ci pushed the door open and came in.
“CEO He, you were looking for me?” At the company, the superior-subordinate relationship was clear. The two of them interacted as usual, with no sign that they were married.
There was another person in the office. Out of politeness, Fang Ci nodded. “Brother Lin.”
Wei Lin’s blocks disappeared on his screen with a “ding.” “Hahahaha, so obedient. Nice.”
He caught a glimpse of He Chi’s expression turning slightly dark. He thought his phone volume was too loud. “You guys work. Don’t mind me.”
“Brother Lin?” He Chi raised an eyebrow and said to Fang Ci, “You can just call him Wei Lin or Mr. Wei from now on.”
It was just a title. Fang Ci was slightly surprised but didn’t think much of it. “Okay.”
Wei Lin wanted to object, but since they were talking about work, he held back. After Fang Ci left the office, he said to He Chi, “What’s wrong with calling me Brother Lin? Are we not allowed to have good relationships with our colleagues anymore?”
He Chi glanced at him. “What, are you coming to work here?”
At the mention of work, Wei Lin shrank back. But he was bored and started rambling. “If the colleagues around me were all as easy on the eyes as that little guy just now, I’d definitely be willing… to come here more often.”
He Chi didn’t engage.
Wei Lin uncharacteristically stayed in He Chi’s office until the afternoon. He couldn’t sit still, getting up to walk around one minute, and watering a plant the next. He just refused to leave the office. As he put it, if the person came in and he didn’t see them, it would be a huge loss.
By 6 p.m., He Chi was truly annoyed. He cleaned up the documents on his desk, stood up, and said, “Stop waiting.”
Wei Lin looked at him.
He Chi: “You’ve already met him.”
Wei Lin was baffled. “Huh?”
He Chi didn’t want to say more and made to leave. Wei Lin stopped him. “Wait! I’ve met so many people these past few days. Who is it!?”
He Chi’s hands were in his pockets, and he had no intention of getting tangled up in this. “Guess for yourself.” With that, he opened the door and left.
Wei Lin followed him, guessing for a long time before slapping his forehead. “Holy sh*t, it can’t be Yuan Cheng, can it?”
Yuan Cheng, who had just turned the corner into the hallway, was left with a “?”
