My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: A Taste
The kiss was so sudden, Fang Ci wasn’t sure if he was ready. He just felt his heart was about to explode, violently pounding against his chest.
They kissed for a few seconds. At first, it was a light taste, and He Chi even paused in the middle, giving him time to breathe.
Shamefully, Fang Ci realized he had gotten hard. His entire body had gone stiff.
“Why… why did you kiss me?” Fang Ci asked, dazed. The fact that he could even ask was a miracle.
How did He Chi answer? He still didn’t directly answer his question, but instead countered with, “Why not?”
He was both a gentleman and dominant. How could Fang Ci reply? He heard his own voice, as small as a mosquito’s. “It’s not that you can’t…”
He wasn’t sure if it was because of the light, but he felt a hint of a smile flash in He Chi’s eyes.
“Do you want more?” He Chi asked politely.
Goosebumps appeared all over Fang Ci’s body. Oh my god, oh my god, why is this so seductive? Where did he learn these moves? I can’t handle it.
So the second kiss followed, and this time, instead of his body stiffening, he melted into a puddle of water from head to toe.
His head felt numb from the kissing, and he almost passed out and fell asleep.
As he drifted off, he vaguely heard He Chi say, “It’s not that I can’t.”
Fang Ci fell into a daze and only figured out what that meant the next morning. After He Chi left the room, he sat up in bed in a “carp backflip” motion, then groaned and fell back onto the mattress, pulling the covers over his head.
I’m finished, I’ve lost all dignity. The embarrassing words Shen Liu had shouted—”Is he impotent?”—must have been heard by He Chi. He knew it was too loud. How could He Chi not have heard?
So, the kiss yesterday was to uphold his manly dignity?
It must have been, right? Fang Ci was so embarrassed he wished he could do a set of military boxing under the covers.
[Shen Liu, I’m finished.] Fang Ci found his phone and sent a message to Shen Liu.
Shen Liu: [?]
Fang Ci sent a smiling-face emoji.
…
The Workday
Last night felt like a dream. When Fang Ci saw He Chi again, the pot of boiling water in his chest, which hadn’t cooled down all night, started to steam again as soon as he encountered the man.
“Morning.”
He Chi nodded, looking no different than usual.
Fang Ci splashed some cold water on his face.
The two ate breakfast without a word and headed to the office. He Chi was used to giving tasks to the CEO’s office on the way, and Fang Ci played the role of a passive assistant, scrolling through his phone.
“The first prototype for the AP R&D department is ready, but it’s based on the old model. A lot of data needs to be adjusted.”
Yuan Cheng said, “I need to meet with Manager Fang today to go over the system development timeline and subsequent progress. We’ve set a launch date with our channel partners, and it looks a bit tight.”
He Chi glanced at Fang Ci and said, “No need for a meeting. I’ll just ask him.”
Yuan Cheng said, “Ah,” then added, “Okay.” Fang Ci’s position was several levels below He Chi’s. Besides product development, all matters of progress were usually reported in a unified meeting with people at the top.
The good thing about this, however, was that it reduced the number of meetings.
Fang Ci typed a few words on his phone and showed them to He Chi while he was on the phone.
He Chi glanced over. It read: [Thanks, CEO He.]
Yuan Cheng said a few more things, and He Chi hung up. Fang Ci started to go over the project. “The initial phase took a long time because the machine parameters had to be changed many times. Today’s young people have high demands for performance, and since we’re focusing on e-sports, the performance has to be even more rigorous.”
“Do you like this phone?” He Chi asked.
Fang Ci said, “What the market likes is most important.”
He Chi: “Aren’t you a young person? A project manager has to love the product themselves before they can push it to the market.”
Fang Ci then said, “The original version wasn’t great. But the updated one is pretty good. I like it a lot.”
He Chi then asked, “Do you play e-sports?”
Fang Ci: “Back in school, I used to play a lot with my roommates, pulling all-nighters.”
“So when you said ‘eat chicken’ the other day, you were talking about a game?”
Fang Ci almost choked on his saliva. He couldn’t control his thoughts around He Chi. He wasn’t sure what He Chi’s opinion of games was. He thought about it, then nodded. “Yeah, I played a round with Shen Liu, the friend you met last time.”
Fortunately, He Chi didn’t say anything more.
In a relationship, it’s a couple’s biggest fear when their hobbies and habits clash. He Chi had a very disciplined lifestyle, so Fang Ci had reined in his own a lot.
“You can play whenever you want in the future,” He Chi said.
Fang Ci’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
He Chi said, “The AP device itself is for young people and is related to e-sports. You can do a round of testing. If a competing phone has similar features, consider it part of your analysis.”
Even though every three sentences were about work and the motivation was for the project, Fang Ci was still very satisfied.
And it made sense. He Chi had ridden motorcycles as a teenager, so his acceptance of video games shouldn’t be low.
The weather outside was clear, and the winter sun was warm, shining straight into his heart. His good mood lasted for a long time.
Xiao Zhu and the others noticed it too. They were chatting at the next table, cracking melon seeds. “What’s up, little Ci-Ci? Did you win the lottery?”
Fang Ci opened his computer, distracting himself with another topic. “Isn’t it worth celebrating that we have one less meeting today?”
Xiao Zhu: “Really?”
Fang Ci: “We’re revising the progress schedule.”
The team members collectively groaned. “No, sir! The current schedule is already tight. We can just postpone the product launch instead of rushing for the World High-Tech Conference.”
Fang Ci: “No, we have to make it. Let’s just get through today first.”
Xiao Zhu chimed in, “Yeah, it looks like we don’t have to work overtime today, which is great. How did you convince the boss?”
Fang Ci: “It was CEO He’s idea.”
Xiao Zhu and a few others cheered. “See? He’s a whole lot softer now that he has a wife. I love his wife!”
Fang Ci stared at the diagram on the project plan. Thinking of the kiss yesterday, he thought to himself: His lips were pretty soft.
He unconsciously twirled the paper in his hand.
…
The Gift Idea
The project was handled with exceptional speed today. The R&D team brought over the initial prototype phone. Everyone gathered around, chattering and discussing their improvement plans, all supporting Fang Ci’s revised ideas, which was a bit of “Monday-morning quarterbacking” on their part.
It was normal for a plan to be revised twenty times. No one could be sure until the very last minute, but the process was a grind.
“I think we can give CEO He a commemorative gift, something that shows the company’s growth,” Xiao Zhu said, toying with the model, a spark of inspiration in his eyes.
“Doesn’t that sound like a great accomplishment?”
He Chi cared a lot about the company, so this was a good idea, but Fang Ci had a different opinion. He thought back to the man he had seen on the screen that year, standing confidently at the center of the world stage.
He suddenly had an idea of what to give He Chi.
“It doesn’t have to be related to the company,” Fang Ci said.
Xiao Zhu: “What is it?”
“If it’s too complicated, we can’t handle it, and it can’t be too expensive either.”
Fang Ci: “You said you’d leave it to me. I’ll definitely get it done this week.” After he said that, he went online to look for something.
A few team members crowded around, peering at his screen. It took Xiao Zhu a while to figure out what it was. He patted Fang Ci’s shoulder. “Okay! This is really good. It’s so meaningful.”
Fang Ci touched his lips and smiled, his eyes crinkling.
