My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 32
Chapter 32: Happiness
Fang Ci was introduced to the game by Shen Liu. In college, they would spend all day coding and then go back to the dorm, where they would either discuss who was the most popular with the opposite s3x or play games. Fang Ci initially didn’t play shooting games. There were fewer mobile games back then, and the user experience wasn’t great. They weren’t as exciting as team battles.
But then Shen Liu went on a crazy campaign to get him to play a certain elite game. After a few rounds of playing together, Fang Ci finally joined their gaming group. Thanks to this game, the entire dorm became very close. You could say that the bond of fighting together was different!
Now, Fang Ci was the one leading He Chi in the game, and Shen Liu felt an inexplicable sense of being intruded upon, especially when he heard Fang Ci teaching He Chi. He and another roommate stood on the second-floor balcony, their souls floating away.
“This game is very simple. You just follow us and run forward. When you see people, shoot at them.”
“How many shots?”
Fang Ci: “However many you need. Just to stay alive, as many as it takes.”
Shen Liu was filled with disbelief. He communicated with his roommate from a distance: [Is he teaching a primary school student?]
Roommate: [Not even primary school. He’s at a pre-school level.]
Then they heard Fang Ci say, “This symbol is a medical kit. You need to pick up a lot of them. This is an M4. You’re not used to the AK, so use something else for now. Oh, right, the 4x scope. You can use it by clicking here.”
A few gunshots echoed in the distance, and Shen Liu silently crouched down with a grenade: […]
The roommate also crouched down against the wall, even wanting to smoke a cigarette: […]
“…Yes, that’s how you use it. Teacher He, you learn very quickly!”
“It’s alright.”
After a pause, he added, “You’re a good teacher.”
Shen Liu typed: [Hey, Huo Bao, don’t you think the gas circle timer is going so much slower today?]
Huo Bao was the nickname they gave their roommate. In the past, whenever he was around, he would start a gunfight as soon as they landed. At best, he would get out unscathed. At worst, he would be dead as soon as he landed. He was a fiery, short-lived firework, hence the name “Huo Bao.”
But today was an exception. Huo Bao just wanted to survive: [It’s not slow. It just feels like a year has passed.]
Fang Ci was still talking endlessly in his headset. Shen Liu’s eyes were empty, and Huo Bao “patted” his shoulder.
Fortunately, the game had a timer. Otherwise, Shen Liu might have crouched behind the wall until he died, or he would have been beaten to death by a crowd.
It’s okay. Think about the five ghillie suits that Ci-pien promised! Shen Liu comforted himself as he ran. It doesn’t matter if my brother has gone mad. The most important thing is that I’m getting paid!
When the four of them got in the car, half of the people on the map had already been eliminated. They moved to a safer place inside the circle, but it was impossible to survive until the end. They still ran into a few people.
“Ci-pien, there are two people here, flanking me. Find an angle and help me out. Snipe from a distance.”
Fang Ci told He Chi, “Find a cover and hide. Wait for me.” Then he jumped out of the window and shot at the other side, looking very cool.
Shen Liu “whooped.” Although his health was greatly reduced, he was glad that his good brother was finally back…
At that moment, he heard Fang Ci say to He Chi, “How are you? Did they not get you?”
Shen Liu: …Wait, didn’t he almost die?
He got up with a look of disappointment to loot the bodies, only to find that the two little scoundrels’ bags had no medical supplies.
Suddenly, the map showed that player 3 was walking toward him. He turned his head and saw He Chi standing next to him, handing him a medical kit that could restore at least 60% of his health.
Shen Liu took it. “Thanks.” Okay, Fang Ci’s “husband” is a little useful after all.
He Chi said calmly, “No problem.”
This battle was just the beginning of the semifinals. The circle was getting smaller and smaller, and the enemies were increasing. Shen Liu and Huo Bao were the vanguards, Fang Ci was the mobile sniper, taking out one person at a time, and He Chi… just followed Fang Ci.
As the game went on, Shen Liu discovered something amazing. Besides just surviving, He Chi was also a professional medic. He was on the ground with low health and saw him come toward him for the nth time, offering him a bandage.
Even Fang Ci was surprised. “Teacher He, where did you get so much medicine?” He didn’t see him pick any up on the way.
He Chi said, “I picked them up from the boxes.”
Even Shen Liu had to admit that He Chi had a skill. A man’s true worth is proven when he’s useful at a critical moment!
Off-screen, Fang Ci heard this and was a little worried. He looked at his level-3 backpack and saw that it only contained an M4, a frying pan, and a little ammo. The rest were all medical kits.
“Why are you only picking up medicine?” Fang Ci took out a gun and gave it to him.
He Chi was silent for a few seconds before answering, “You just said it.”
Fang Ci: “Huh?” What did he say?
“You said to pick up a lot of medical kits.”
Fang Ci suddenly stopped talking.
Shen Liu came back after replenishing his health. The battlefield was clear. Huo Bao found a cross-country vehicle and drove it over. The headset was eerily quiet. Shen Liu didn’t know what was going on, so he called out to Fang Ci, “Ci-pien, come over here.”
Fang Ci was stunned for a moment and then replied, “Okay, coming.” He turned his head and glanced at He Chi again.
Off-screen, He Chi wasn’t looking at him. In the game, player 3 always quietly followed player 4.
They entered the final circle together.
Shen Liu quickly took down two people. One of them was even wearing a ghillie suit. Shen Liu looted the box and gave the ghillie suit to He Chi, saying, “You can wear it.” After all, he needed to survive and then save them when needed.
He Chi took it and immediately handed it to Fang Ci. Shen Liu: “?”
He Chi said, “He’s the sniper.”
Shen Liu thought about it and agreed.
In the end, Fang Ci took advantage of the situation and hid in the bushes with He Chi.
There were eight people left on the field. Shen Liu and Huo Bao were shocked to find that their team was the only one that was complete. It was a miracle and completely exceeded everyone’s expectations.
Time was of the essence. Shen Liu ran in a zigzag pattern and quickly took out one person. Fang Ci sniped one from a distance, and Huo Bao was unfortunately hit, falling in the darkness before dawn.
The sound effect of “help me” was everywhere.
Fang Ci changed to a hidden spot and ran behind a tree. But there were only five people left in the final battle, so no place was safe. Shen Liu was eliminated right in front of him.
The other two people saw that Fang Ci still had ammo and decided to take him out first. They charged at him at the same time. Fang Ci’s AK was out of bullets, and he only had a shotgun for close combat. He bent down and used the shotgun to eliminate one of them. His health was dangerously low. Just as he was lying in the grass, hanging on by a thread, player 3’s position suddenly moved.
[Oh my god…] The opponent who was about to finish off Fang Ci was knocked out with a frying pan!
Shen Liu: “Hahaha…”
Huo Bao: “Hiss…”
They actually won! With a slightly bizarre strategy!
Fang Ci immediately exited the game and excitedly grabbed He Chi’s hand, shaking it. “First place, Teacher He! You’re amazing!”
He Chi’s expression didn’t change, but as he looked at Fang Ci’s smile, his eyes also filled with a smile. “Mm, we won.”
He then said, “You’re that happy?”
Fang Ci was stunned for a moment before he came to his senses. He put his hand down and nodded. “Yes, I’m very happy.”
It felt different from when he usually played games. He had been playing this game for several years, so many times, and had even teamed up with experts like Xiao Fan. They could win in ten minutes and win many rounds in one night.
But today was different. He was playing with He Chi.
He Chi wasn’t a master. He didn’t even show much emotion when playing the game. It wasn’t like playing with his roommates, where everyone would yell and swear and talk nonsense.
Today’s player 3 only followed player 4, silent and obedient. He did whatever Fang Ci told him to do.
Fang Ci suddenly realized that at this moment, besides being happy, he also felt a lot of satisfaction. Even the process of teaching him was satisfying.
Sensing the emotional fluctuation, he was afraid he would lose control and reveal too much of his feelings. So he lowered his head and touched the warm prototype.
“What about you, Teacher He?” he asked. “Do you like this game?”
He Chi thought about it seriously for a moment and said honestly, “It’s so-so.”
Fang Ci was stunned by his words. He was a little disappointed. He didn’t expect He Chi to say that. Even an “it’s alright” would have been better than “it’s so-so.”
That meant he didn’t like it.
Fang Ci’s heart instantly fell from the sky to the ground. He took a moment to recover and forced a smile. “It’s okay. Games are just for passing the time anyway.”
After saying that, he couldn’t help but be curious and asked, “Then why did you suddenly want to play today?”
He Chi said, “Don’t you like to play this game?”
Upon hearing this, Fang Ci’s heart slowly started to beat again. He Chi had used a double negative, so… “Is it because I like it, so you wanted to try it?”
He Chi said, “Mm.”
Oh my god! Oh my god! Fang Ci stared blankly at He Chi.
“As long as you’re happy.”
Fang Ci’s heart was struck again, slowly turning from crimson to pink, like a field of blooming flowers. And it was beating faster and faster, and the temperature was rising, and the heat almost blurred his vision.
He Chi exited the game interface. Seeing that it was getting late, he asked him if he wanted to rest.
Fang Ci didn’t answer.
But just as he was about to get up, Fang Ci suddenly grabbed the corner of his shirt and called out, “He Chi.”
He stopped. This was the first time Fang Ci had called him by his name, not CEO He or Teacher He.
“What is it?”
Fang Ci’s lips moved slightly. “Do you…?” The last few words were almost inaudible. He Chi didn’t hear them and asked him again.
Fang Ci let go of the corner of his shirt. After a moment, he said, “It’s nothing.”
He Chi was puzzled. He asked again, but Fang Ci still didn’t say anything, so he didn’t press him anymore. In the soft light, he moved the strands of hair hanging over Fang Ci’s face behind his ear.
Feeling the warmth of his hand, Fang Ci put on his usual smile and urged him to go wash up first.
He Chi nodded and left the living room.
Fang Ci watched his back, sitting in the shadow where he couldn’t be seen. His smile gradually faded, replaced by a look of confusion. The words in his heart kept bubbling up, and they were gradually becoming irresistible:
Teacher He, do you…
Do you like me a little?
Even a little bit would be okay.
