My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: Jealousy
They went to bed very late. Fang Ci was so tired he couldn’t keep his eyes open. In the morning, he predictably had a sore back and waist. He reached out and rubbed himself, trying to wake up.
If only it were the weekend, he thought, I really want to sleep in.
As he was rubbing, He Chi’s hand on his waist moved. A moment later, rubbing his back became He Chi’s task. Seeing that He Chi was awake, Fang Ci closed his eyes again and simply enjoyed the care.
He Chi was always very attentive in bed, even handling the cleanup afterward. He was charming and gentle, and… well, he made Fang Ci completely infatuated.
However, they seemed to be doing it a bit too frequently this week. By his count, they had done it at least five out of seven days… Ahhh, is this going to become an addiction? Fang Ci buried himself in He Chi’s chest, wondering if He Chi had cast a spell on him.
I need to be more reserved, he thought. After all, I haven’t even confessed yet.
He Chi saw him turn into a little ostrich, burrowing into his arms, and asked, “Are you uncomfortable?”
Fang Ci: “No.” It’s not that I’m uncomfortable. I’m already in heaven.
After a moment of hesitation, he wondered if he should bring it up. “Uh… aren’t we doing it a bit too often?”
He Chi: “What?”
Fang Ci: “This thing…” He couldn’t bring himself to say “doing it.”
He Chi said, “You don’t like it?”
Fang Ci quickly looked up. “No! It’s just that we have to work every day. I’m afraid I won’t be able to get up in the morning…”
He Chi looked down at him. Fang Ci had seen this expression before.
“Got it. I’ll make it shorter next time.” He said, analyzing the situation with a straight face.
Fang Ci’s ears turned bright red! Oh, no, why did this turn into Teacher He complimenting himself? You can’t do that!
After a few more minutes of rubbing, He Chi asked, “Does it still hurt?” Fang Ci shook his head.
“If you ever feel uncomfortable, just tell me.”
Fang Ci obediently replied, “Okay.”
This time, He Chi was the one who got up first to wash up. Fang Ci nestled in the blanket, letting the heat on his face dissipate. The bed still had He Chi’s scent. It was a pleasant, unique woody scent, not the smell of shower gel.
The shower gel at home was gardenia-scented. The smell on He Chi was more like a fragrance that had lingered for a long time, not disappearing even after sweating or showering.
Fang Ci sniffed and closed his eyes in satisfaction, continuing to lie there.
It was hard to fall back asleep. In a state between dreaming and waking, the phone by the bed suddenly rang. Fang Ci felt for it with his eyes closed and picked it up.
The person on the other end seemed to be an acquaintance. Without introducing himself, he said, “When are you free in a few days? My dad says he wants to have dinner with you.”
Fang Ci’s first thought was Shen Liu, but Shen Liu’s parents weren’t in the city. “What?”
The person on the other end also paused. After a moment of hesitation, he asked, “Isn’t this He Chi’s phone? Where is he?”
Fang Ci was shocked awake. He looked at the phone screen, which clearly showed the name “Wei Lin.” He was so confused he suddenly remembered that they had accidentally switched places yesterday. Fang Ci had slept on the side where He Chi usually slept, so the phone he was holding now was…
“Who are you?” In the receiver, Wei Lin’s voice gradually became excited.
Fang Ci looked at the screen, wanting to hang up the phone directly. As he was in a mental tug-of-war, he heard Wei Lin on the other end start guessing: “Are you He Chi’s partner?”
“Oh, you’re a guy.”
“Wait, no, why does your voice sound so familiar…”
“I think I’ve heard it somewhere…”
After a long silence, Wei Lin on the other end hesitated and called out, “Fang Ci?”
Fang Ci bit the corner of the blanket, and the phone almost flew out of his hand. It was like he had been keeping a secret for a long time and it was suddenly exposed. It was too thrilling. He swallowed, thinking of a plan. At least, until he had discussed it with He Chi, he couldn’t reveal his identity. So he quickly thought of something and lowered his voice, saying:
“Who is Fang Ci?”
Wei Lin: “…”
He Chi, who had just pushed the door open, said, “?”
Fang Ci wailed in his heart, covered his face with the blanket, and handed the phone back to him. He Chi glanced at the screen and stroked his head.
Fang Ci lay motionless in bed.
After getting up and meeting He Chi in the living room, Fang Ci was still a little nervous. He asked, “Did he guess it?”
He Chi said, “He was just guessing.”
Then he added, “Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t matter whether he knows or not.”
Fang Ci was stunned. Why did he want to keep it a secret before, but now it doesn’t matter? He didn’t understand.
“Is it because Mr. Wei isn’t a company employee?”
He Chi thought for a moment. “Not entirely.”
Then he suddenly said, “Wei Lin said he really likes you.”
Fang Ci was taken aback. Why is he bringing this up? He said, “I know. He said it when we were talking about the products.” Fang Ci thought this was just Wei Lin’s way of showing admiration.
Wei Lin had said similar things to Xiao Zhu and Cheng Wen as well, like “I really admire you,” “I like girls with ideas like you,” “Awesome! Oh my, I just love you.” He gave out compliments like they were free passes, saying them ten times a minute to different people without repeating himself.
He Chi didn’t say anything.
Fang Ci tried to connect the dots, like writing code or connecting a circuit, to find the relationship between these few sentences.
If he remembered correctly, He Chi also mentioned Wei Lin last night and asked what they did at the party. He brought it up again today. Could it be… Fang Ci suddenly had a revelation, and his eyes lit up.
Could Teacher He… be jealous?
He bit the tip of his chopsticks. The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed. In the end, he couldn’t help but ask Teacher He to confirm: “Mr. Wei is a very nice person, and I admire him a lot, too.”
After saying this, he saw He Chi frown, as expected. Fang Ci’s heart rate quickened, filled with the anticipation of getting closer to his goal. “Mr. Wei knowing about our relationship is also good. It’ll be more convenient for me to go out with him in the future.”
He Chi put down his chopsticks. “Why?”
Fang Ci: “Because Teacher He’s friends are my friends.”
He Chi’s expression softened a little, and he nodded. After a while, he said, “You don’t have to go out with him, though.”
Fang Ci blinked. “Why?”
He Chi: “The places he goes aren’t suitable for you.”
He’s not talking about the barbecue restaurant, right…? Fang Ci wanted to laugh, but he still agreed. “Okay.” See? See? Teacher He is definitely jealous. No wonder he hurt me so much last night.
His answer gave Fang Ci a little courage. So he took a deep breath and threw out the final test: “Teacher He, do you… not want me to have too much contact with Mr. Wei?”
As the words left his mouth, he stared at He Chi’s expression, not wanting to miss any subtle changes. But he saw him frown and say, “No. What friends you make is your own choice.”
Fang Ci: “Then…”
He Chi said, “I’m just being objective and giving you some suggestions.”
Objective my ass, Fang Ci’s joy came to an abrupt halt, falling from mid-air. He stared blankly at the man in front of him.
He Chi noticed his gaze. “What are you looking at?”
Fang Ci was secretly annoyed: I’m looking at my dense husband…
He poked his chopsticks into the bowl and reluctantly pulled back his brave little feelers.
The morning conversation felt like a small interlude. Although Fang Ci was a little disappointed, he was still determined to put the confession on the agenda as soon as possible. Teacher He was always so serious when he flirted, which made him feel very passive. He wanted to openly flirt back!
When he got to the company, Fang Ci greeted Xiao Zhu and the others and then dived into the great task of confession.
“Little Ci Ci, what are you looking at?” Just as he was flipping through something seriously, Xiao Zhu suddenly appeared behind him. Fang Ci quickly turned off his screen.
“Just looking at random things.”
“Oh.” Xiao Zhu made a face and didn’t say anything, but she explained what she was working on to Fang Ci.
After Fang Ci listened, he pointed out a few problems, which Xiao Zhu wrote down, and then she went back to work.
Fang Ci returned to the web page and continued to look. As he looked, he found that the content was all similar and not very useful.
Then he thought of Xiao Zhu. Girls were more meticulous, so maybe she had a good idea.
He thought it was a viable method, so he asked her to get coffee with him under the pretense of discussing a plan.
Xiao Zhu turned back with a smile. “Oh, you need me now?”
Fang Ci was stunned and a little embarrassed. He smiled and said, “Yeah. What do you want to drink? It’s on me.”
Xiao Zhu ordered a “cappuccino,” and they went to the spacious rooftop.
It wasn’t too cold outside today, and the weather was sunny. They leaned against the railing with their coffee.
They talked about the launch setup for a while, and then Fang Ci stopped. He was used to being direct with work matters, but when it came to feelings, he was a bit indecisive. He hesitated about how to start.
Xiao Zhu spoke first. “Little Ci Ci, next time, remember to wear a turtleneck sweater.”
Fang Ci was stunned and looked at his face in his phone. His face turned red. Xiao Zhu looked at him and laughed. “Quite intense, huh?”
It wasn’t a bad thing to be called out. A lot of things suddenly became easier to say. He tugged his collar up and said, “I’ll change it tomorrow.”
Xiao Zhu: “Go on, what do you want to ask?”
Fang Ci then regained his composure. He was brief and to the point, telling her about his plan to confess. Xiao Zhu listened with great interest but couldn’t guess if the person was a man or a woman. Fang Ci explained, “It’s a man.”
Xiao Zhu nodded in understanding, and the fire of gossip ignited. She asked, “What’s he like?”
Fang Ci had many words to describe He Chi, but he chose a few of the most representative ones. “Gentle, calm, and charming.”
Xiao Zhu was hit with the dog food she had asked for and covered her mouth in an exaggerated way. “Oh my god! He must be a god! I’m so jealous!”
It was the first time Fang Ci had talked about his private life with a colleague. He was not used to it. He took a sip of coffee and tried to stay calm, maintaining his image as a manager. “He’s alright.”
Xiao Zhu laughed and patted him. “Come on. If I had a partner like that, I’d be insane with happiness.”
Fang Ci smiled at this. Xiao Zhu continued, “I’m not just asking casually. Hearing you say that, he seems very rational. Just tell him directly. He’ll analyze it himself. You don’t have to overthink it. Besides, when two people like each other, it doesn’t matter where or how you confess.”
Fang Ci thought, True, the intention is what matters.
Xiao Zhu added, “My best friend was the one who confessed to her boyfriend. It was on the street, right after they finished eating kebabs.”
Fang Ci laughed. “You can do that?”
Xiao Zhu: “Why not? Every pot has its lid. They were happy with it.”
Hearing this, the pressure in Fang Ci’s heart eased a little.
Xiao Zhu: “You just take it too seriously. I’m so jealous of your boyfriend!”
“How long have you two been together?” Xiao Zhu rested her chin on her hand, curious.
Fang Ci said vaguely, “A little over a month.” In reality, it was almost two months.
Xiao Zhu: “Oh, the honeymoon phase.”
“This is a good amount of time, not too long and not too short. It’s different from my brother’s situation. He didn’t succeed in his first confession. Do you know why?”
Fang Ci was happy to hear more examples and asked, “Why?”
Xiao Zhu: “They had only been together for three days. They didn’t know each other. It was a moment of impulse. He confessed at night, and they never spoke again the next day.”
“That’s so sad.”
Xiao Zhu sighed. “Right?”
They stayed for a while longer. Xiao Zhu was full of ideas and generously shared all sorts of strategies. Fang Ci gained a lot.
Both of them were very satisfied. Before going downstairs, Xiao Zhu asked, “Am I the first one to know?”
Fang Ci: “Yes, you’re the first.”
Xiao Zhu was very happy and said, “Then when you succeed, remember to tell me.”
Fang Ci smiled with his eyes. “Okay.”
