My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Postponement
The next day at noon, Fang Ci finished his lunch and went out to find a popular flower shop near the company. The shop was decorated in a classic and elegant style, with a spring-like atmosphere. He pushed the door open, and a staff member smiled and said, “Welcome.”
There was another boy in the shop picking out flowers. He chose a bouquet of pink roses, and the staff member was helping him arrange other flowers.
The boy said, “Are the pink ones too girly? She always says she’s a queen. Should I get black ones instead? Black roses are cool enough, right?”
The staff member said, “Girls generally prefer red or pink, but if you’re sure she likes a certain style, I can re-wrap it for you. It’ll look even better when we arrange it.”
The boy was in a dilemma, hovering in front of the flower bouquets, almost wanting to buy all the flowers and take them home. Fang Ci saw a reflection of himself in him. When he bought a birthday gift for He Chi, he was unburdened by love, and the order was placed decisively. But now, he couldn’t do that. He had repeatedly changed the process and discarded numerous plans.
In the end, he chose the most cliché one.
After wrapping the flowers for the boy, the staff member turned to Fang Ci and asked what he needed. Fang Ci said, “Roses.”
The staff member asked, “What color would you like?”
Although Fang Ci had already decided to buy roses, there were so many colors in front of him. He wanted to consult a professional, so he asked, “What do these flowers mean?”
The staff member smiled and answered patiently, “You must know what red means—passionate love. Pink represents first love, and white means ‘I am worthy of you.'”
The boy next to him heard this and also became curious. He asked, “What about blue roses? Does anyone actually buy them? What do they mean?”
The staff member said, “Most customers don’t give them as gifts. They’re for personal enjoyment because their meaning is ‘miracles and impossible things.’ Some customers think it’s not a good omen, but others think buying it is buying a miracle. It depends on how people interpret it.”
The boy: “That’s special. I like it. I didn’t care about the meaning back then. Otherwise, I would have used it to confess to my girlfriend. She has a terrible temper. I was really afraid she would hit me.”
The people around him laughed. The staff member said, “Hitting is a sign of affection.”
The boy nodded, a big smile on his face. “Thanks. I’ll get going now.”
After he left, the staff member asked Fang Ci, “Are you also buying flowers for your loved one?”
Fang Ci looked at the bouquets in front of him and said, “I’d like to place an order. Can you deliver it tomorrow?”
The staff member: “Yes, we can.”
He had to work on Friday, and Fang Ci estimated that he wouldn’t have time to come to the flower shop. He didn’t want to order the confession flowers online. He wanted to choose them himself, and the wrapping had to be just right!
Fang Ci left his address and phone number and went back to the company.
On the way home from work, he asked He Chi about his availability for dinner tomorrow.
“Are you free tomorrow night? How about we go out to dinner? There’s a restaurant I want to go to.”
Fang Ci rarely made requests to He Chi, and He Chi agreed almost immediately.
“You don’t need to have a meeting?” Fang Ci confirmed with him.
He Chi: “I can push it to the weekend.”
Fang Ci’s lips curved upward. The first step of his confession was going smoothly. He hoped for good weather tomorrow.
Yuan Cheng was used to the schedule changes. Early on Friday morning, he called the supplier again to reschedule the meeting. The other company said they didn’t work on weekends. Yuan Cheng inwardly scoffed twice: Sorry, he forgot that normal people’s schedules include weekends.
“Your CEO He is so dedicated,” the other person said humbly and sincerely.
Yuan Cheng thought, That’s not it… In my opinion, CEO He’s dedication has regressed. If his workaholic index was 100% before, it’s now dropped to 80%. The other 20% is, of course, allocated to his wife.
They rescheduled for Monday. After Yuan Cheng finished, he lay on his chair in a daze. He suddenly realized that this meant he could also have the day off and rest for the weekend!
He was instantly elated and jumped up from the back of his chair, saying to Shang Qu, “What do you think I should do this weekend? Camping or watching a movie? Or maybe I should go on a blind date to find a partner?”
Shang Qu found it strange. “Why would you go on a blind date? Did you suddenly get a spring fever?”
Yuan Cheng: “Sigh, no. I just feel like CEO He has become a real person since he got a wife. I want to experience that too.”
Shang Qu: What does he mean by “become a real person”…
He said, “I think what you’re saying is very weird.”
Yuan Cheng: “Hehe, you know what I mean.”
Shang Qu scoffed. “Then do you think it’s possible that it has something to do with the position? Maybe you’ll experience it after you’ve made a billion dollars first.”
Yuan Cheng was stunned and then got angry. “…Are you poisonous!”
Shang Qu gave him a stack of documents. “Go on, get back to work, Pikachu.”
Yuan Cheng held the data and saw the words “process on Saturday,” and he wailed about his miserable fate.
The discussion between the two assistants didn’t reach He Chi’s ears. He was busy finishing his work to make time and to keep too many people from bothering him and Fang Ci.
It was almost four o’clock. Fang Ci sent the restaurant’s information to his phone. He Chi glanced at it, and his eyes lingered on the little bunny emoji below. It was soft and well-behaved, just like Fang Ci.
It was like a space bar in his busy work. Just one look and he felt completely relaxed.
He put his phone back and was about to get up for a cup of coffee when the phone rang. Wei Lin’s name popped up on the screen.
It’s probably about dinner again.
Sure enough, Wei Lin brought up his father again: “My dad has to go abroad temporarily tomorrow for a business trip related to tech company financing and IPOs. He asked me to ask you if you’re free tonight to go over some company matters. There might be some unexpected gains from this trip.”
He Chi was about to speak, but he swallowed his words. Since it was related to an IPO, he had to prioritize it. So he said, “I already have plans. Let me ask the other person first.”
Wei Lin said, “Okay.”
Then he added, “Also… there’s one more thing. My dad said he wants you to bring your family member. He’s coming back from this trip in a hurry and wants to make up for the wedding red envelope.”
He Chi frowned.
Wei Lin quickly said, “I told him to just give you the red envelope, but you know my dad’s personality. I wouldn’t dare say no. Besides, the older generation likes to see couples. They think it’s festive and lively.”
By the end of his sentence, his voice was getting smaller, showing how much pressure he was under.
He Chi was silent for a moment and said, “I’ll ask him.”
Wei Lin: “Can you really come?”
He Chi: “…”
Wei Lin had gotten what he wanted and didn’t dare to be arrogant. He quickly said, “Nothing else to say. I’m hanging up!”
A “beep” sound came from the phone. He had hung up just like that.
He Chi then called Fang Ci to his office and told him about Wei Lin’s last-minute dinner invitation.
Fang Ci was surprised by the sudden change. He was stunned. “So urgent?”
He Chi said, “For the past few years, Uncle Wei has been helping with the financing. It’s not a good idea to push this dinner back.”
Fang Ci asked, “Will it be a late dinner?”
He Chi noticed his hesitation and asked, “Was there something important about the dinner you had planned for me tonight?”
Fang Ci had already experienced He Chi’s ability to deduce things. He had to keep his “little secret,” so he said, “No, it’s just a popular restaurant I wanted to check out.”
He was afraid that He Chi would continue to ask, so he proactively said, “The company matter is more important. We can go to that restaurant on the weekend.”
He Chi said, “Okay.”
He then said, “Sorry.”
Fang Ci smiled. “It’s okay.” He comforted himself. Today isn’t any special anniversary. It’s fine to postpone it by one day. Teacher He isn’t going anywhere.
“Then I’ll head home after I’m done with work.”
As he said this, he heard He Chi say, “Let’s go together tonight.”
Fang Ci was stunned and pointed at himself. “Me too?”
He Chi nodded and said, “Uncle Wei wants to meet you. It’ll be a family gathering.”
I’m going to be introduced to Teacher He’s family and friends. Fang Ci was a little happy and a little nervous. After he came to his senses, his first thought was about his clothes. He was wearing a casual suit today. It looked good because he had put it together himself, but it didn’t seem formal enough to meet an elder.
“Do I need to change?”
He Chi said, “No, you look fine as you are.”
“Do I need to buy a gift?” Fang Ci asked again.
He Chi said, “I’ve already bought one. It’ll be delivered in an hour.”
“Then do I need to…”
He Chi interrupted him. “No, you don’t. Don’t be nervous.”
Fang Ci blushed.
He Chi said, “I’ll be there.”
Fang Ci smiled. “Okay.”
