My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 48
Chapter 48: Resolving
He Chi didn’t mention the wedding again in the following days. Fang Ci thought that he had just said it on a whim.
Perhaps the atmosphere was so good at the time that it made him suddenly think of the unfinished items on his to-do list, so he had the idea to push it forward. But they didn’t have the right timing, location, or people. Not only did Fang Ci understand this, but He Chi did as well.
So the two of them tacitly avoided the topic.
In addition, work had been so busy lately that even their rest time was severely compressed, let alone casual conversation. No matter how many thoughts they had, they had to be suppressed.
In the middle of all this, He Chi was sick for a few days. The process of financing and going public was complicated. He didn’t eat lunch or dinner for two days, was in meetings until late at night, and then had a stomach ache in the middle of the night. Drinking water and taking medicine didn’t work, so he had to go to the hospital for an IV drip.
Fang Ci wrote down the doctor’s instructions and watched him take his medicine before bed. He Chi was holding his stomach, and his other hand was still typing. Fang Ci covered him with a blanket and asked, “How about you work after you feel better?”
But He Chi said, “It’s almost over.”
Fang Ci didn’t believe that. When he first entered the workplace, he didn’t know anything. He thought the CEO only had to give orders and was definitely more relaxed than the employees. Later, he realized that the higher the position, the busier you were. The CEO was the biggest gear in the company. If he didn’t turn, everyone else would panic.
So He Chi had been working non-stop. Although he had promised not to bring work home and gave Fang Ci a relaxed space to rest, in the end, this rule only applied to Fang Ci. CEO He couldn’t enjoy such treatment.
Fang Ci looked at his slightly pale lips. It would be a lie to say he didn’t feel sorry for him. The bit of sadness from a few days ago was naturally thrown to the back of his mind. He placed a cup of hot water on the table, thought for a moment, and changed his tone. “CEO He, is there anything I can help you with?”
He Chi was slightly stunned. He looked up at him, his eyes filled with surprise and a bit of tenderness. “No, you can just stay here.”
Fang Ci listened to him, poured a glass of water, and sat beside him. The screen was full of numbers that made his eyes go blurry.
“Can you understand it?” He Chi asked.
Fang Ci shook his head. It looked very complicated.
He Chi moved the computer closer to him and said, “This contains the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement. You can see the company’s solvency and current cash flow from the statements.”
Fang Ci didn’t understand, but he was very interested in Zhiyun’s money. He found the final settlement number and counted the number of “0s.” He was shocked, not by how valuable the company was, but by…
“Our company is currently 187 million in debt?”
He Chi calmly nodded and said, “More than that. The money from the last round of financing has been used up. We’ll have to re-evaluate after the D-round financing.”
Fang Ci was a little unsettled. He had never seen so much money in his life. Oh, and it wasn’t earned; it was lost.
“Why are we losing money?” Are the employees not working hard enough?
When he said that, his whole body was almost on top of the screen. He Chi pulled him back, his hand on his waist. He could feel his supple lines, which were slightly tense. He was probably shocked by the numbers.
“Zhiyun’s product research and development costs are too high. Many of them are still in the development stage and haven’t reached mass production, which has spent most of the funds. The biggest expense is labor costs.”
Fang Ci said, “You mean… we can’t afford to support so many people?”
A typical employee mindset, worried that the boss will lay off departments or people. A smile flashed in He Chi’s eyes. “Mhm.”
Fang Ci: “…” A shocking secret. The heartless boss is going to be ruthless!
Manager Fang’s conscience came online and he said, “You can’t do that. Everyone is developing new products. You can’t just stop. It’ll be fine once we reach mass production.”
He Chi looked at him for a long time and said, “Worried about being fired?”
Who isn’t afraid of losing their job? Fang Ci nodded. “But with our company’s level, there shouldn’t be a problem, right?”
Fang Ci had a pair of lychee-like eyes. His eyes were bright, and no matter what he was doing or looking at others, he seemed especially serious and focused. He Chi could often see different expressions and emotions in his eyes, like a black and white film turning into color, full of life.
Very cute.
He Chi used to think that the fluffy Qiuqiu was very cute, but now he thought the person in front of him was the cutest.
“You don’t have to worry,” he said.
“Even if the company goes bankrupt, I can still support you.”
Fang Ci didn’t feel any joy when he heard that. He covered He Chi’s mouth. “Don’t say that. It’s bad luck. The press conference for AP hasn’t happened yet, and the company hasn’t gone public yet.”
He Chi lowered his head and curved his lips slightly. His stomach didn’t hurt as much anymore.
“It’s normal for a company to be in debt. The bigger the company, the more debt it has. Projects have a profitability cycle.” He Chi continued to show him a few other pages of the financial report. Fang Ci listened carefully. At first, he didn’t understand, but he gradually caught up to his rhythm.
After He Chi finished, Fang Ci had a rough understanding of the company.
“Is there anything else you don’t understand?” He Chi was very patient.
Fang Ci said, “Not for now.”
He then came back to his senses and said, “I don’t usually deal with finances.” The subtext was that he didn’t need to understand the company’s financial report.
He Chi understood, but he said, “You do.”
Fang Ci: “?”
He Chi: “You don’t need to worry about the company’s operations, but the money we make will all be yours.”
Fang Ci: “!”
He Chi gently stroked his back. “I won’t let you be in debt.”
Fang Ci bit his lip, not knowing what to say.
Here he comes again. Teacher He was being annoying again. He was stubbornly refusing to love him, but he kept teasing him. With just a few words, he got his hopes up and made his mind wander. He was sad one moment and happy the next. He was about to have a breakdown.
Such an annoying Teacher He!
He Chi saw that he wasn’t saying anything, so he stroked his hair.
The medicine had warmed up. He was afraid it would get cold if he waited any longer. He drank it all in one gulp and stood up.
Fang Ci asked in surprise, “What about your work…”
He Chi: “I had to go through the quarterly report today. I’ve finished it.”
Fang Ci was stunned. Is this doing two things at once or killing two birds with one stone?
Before going to bed, He Chi didn’t hug him like he usually did. Instead, he was curled up on his side facing away from him. Fang Ci noticed his discomfort and gently placed his hand on his stomach, massaging it.
He Chi relaxed and turned around. “It’ll be fine once the medicine takes effect. You should go to sleep first.”
Fang Ci looked at him, didn’t answer, and didn’t take his hand away. He stubbornly massaged him for a while before saying, “It’s okay. When I had a cold, you took care of me. Isn’t it only right that I do the same now?”
The lights in the bedroom were off, so he couldn’t see his bright eyes. He Chi felt a little regretful. Through his pajamas, the warmth of his palm seeped into his skin, a strange comfort. Fang Ci’s hands and feet were no longer easily cold in the winter. He had a newfound warmth.
This was something that made him quite satisfied.
Their hands were on top of each other. Fang Ci massaged him carefully with just the right amount of pressure. He heard He Chi speak again and say, “I’ve looked up the wedding procedures.”
Fang Ci’s hand paused. “Mhm?”
He Chi said, “I’m sorry, I can’t make it happen right now. When we have the chance in the future, I will definitely make it up to you.”
The words rang in his ears, just to tell him that that day wasn’t a sudden, impulsive thought, but something that was planned and prepared.
It was a very simple sentence, but its weight was heavy. Fang Ci’s eyes were a little teary, and his heart instantly melted. All the emotions he hadn’t had time to vent were easily tamed, kneaded, and melted away by Teacher He.
He didn’t know that on that Sunday afternoon, when he was alone at home, there was a moment when he wanted to give up on this development plan that had no end in sight, this research and development task that he couldn’t even set a deadline for.
He was afraid that they would end up failing because of too many losses.
However, He Chi gave him another dream and told him that there would be profits, and there would be a wedding.
So what about him? Should he try a little harder?
A drowsy feeling quietly came over him. He Chi closed his eyes and heard his breathing slow down. Fang Ci took his hand back and pulled the blanket up to his shoulders.
To Teacher He, he was still a little useful, right?
Although after they got married, Teacher He had a lot more “troubles” and things to worry about, his existence wasn’t completely useless, right?
Thinking this, the tense string in his heart relaxed a lot. He couldn’t help but lean in and kiss He Chi’s forehead.
