My Boss Always Flirts With Me - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Moving In
Fang Ci only hesitated for a few seconds before decisively agreeing. He chose this person himself and decided to get married himself, so why be coy now?
He Chi was surprised by how quickly he agreed. He seemed to visibly relax.
Seeing his expression, Fang Ci felt a little happy, even though he knew He Chi was just tired of his family’s pressure.
They agreed to move in tomorrow since it was a Sunday and convenient for both of them. Fang Ci asked, “Will it affect your work?” Even when working from home, a leader must be very busy.
He Chi said, “It won’t take up too much time.”
Fang Ci nodded. On his way home, he remembered something they said when they signed the agreement: Marriage is a form of partnership.
He could feel He Chi trying to manage this relationship, just like he did with his career, but he wasn’t very skilled at it yet.
Everything is difficult at the start.
After getting home, Fang Ci had nothing else to do, so he leisurely packed his belongings. A man’s wardrobe is simple. He only needed a few items for early winter. As for spring and summer clothes, he didn’t need them now and would deal with them next year.
After packing everything into a box, Fang Ci lay on his bed and messaged Shen Liu: [Hold off on sending me the stuff you were going to. I might need a new address.]
Shen Liu had recently said he was going to send him some local specialties but hadn’t shipped them yet.
Shen Liu sent a question mark: [Are you going on a business trip?]
Fang Ci: [No, moving.]
Shen Liu’s response was a bit slow, as if he was still in the middle of a game: [Where to?]
Fang Ci answered truthfully: [To my spouse’s place.]
Shen Liu: […]
Five minutes later, Shen Liu sent another message: [You know that everything you’re saying right now is like you’re mocking me, a single dog. If you keep this up, I’m really going to turn into a dark and bitter person, thank you very much.]
Fang Ci couldn’t help but laugh. For a moment, he felt a surge of triumph, even though so far, this relationship wasn’t really something to show off.
The next day, He Chi came to pick him up as promised. Fang Ci saw that he had switched to a spacious SUV. He glanced at the logo and guessed it was worth over a million yuan.
“Is this all you have?” He Chi asked, holding two boxes.
Fang Ci said, “This is all the stuff I use every day.” He watched He Chi put the items into the car, realizing that he switched cars for the convenience of moving. He couldn’t help but be impressed by He Chi’s thoughtfulness, and, well, his wealth.
They got into the car and headed to their destination. He Chi said the address out loud: “It’s best to remember the location. It’ll be easier to fill out if you need to mail anything.” It was as if he could read Fang Ci’s mind.
Fang Ci looked down at the screen. He had just silently recited the address twice when a call came in on He Chi’s phone.
He answered, “What is it?”
Fang Ci held his breath.
A young woman’s voice came from the other end: “Dad wants you to come home next weekend.”
He Chi was silent for two seconds. “I’m busy at the company, no time.”
“Ugh, don’t always be so difficult with Dad. He’s just worried about you. You’re hiding your spouse, what is Dad supposed to think?”
He Chi didn’t say anything, but his face looked bad. “I’m hanging up.”
! A hand suddenly reached out in front of him, stopping his movement.
He Chi looked at Fang Ci, who pointed at himself, then at the phone. He Chi hesitated for a moment, nodded, and said, “It’s my cousin.”
Fang Ci then said, “Hi, cousin.” He was still a bit unaccustomed to the term.
The voice on the other end was startled. “Who are you?”
Fang Ci looked at He Chi’s expression. All men are the same; their pride is more important than anything else. Being lectured by his family in front of him must feel terrible. This was his first time getting married, but he was an expert employee. Of course, he had to have his boss’s back!
Fang Ci introduced himself with a new version: “I’m the person who married Boss He… He Chi.”
The words felt a little awkward, but they got the point across. His “cousin” was silent for a few seconds, then said, “Oh,” and asked curiously, “Nice to meet you. I was going to send He Chi a wedding gift, but I heard you got married and aren’t living together?”
Fang Ci secretly pinched his own thigh, and with a smile, he began to improvise on the spot. “Yes, because I’ve been so busy with overtime recently, I haven’t had time to move in. My place is close to the company, and Boss He… he felt bad for me, so we put it off. I only finished being busy yesterday.”
This story was plausible, but it was so sappy that Fang Ci almost bit his tongue.
The cousin on the other end digested this. She seemed to be full of gossip and asked, “Was it a shotgun wedding?”
Fang Ci continued to improvise: “The registration was a bit fast, but we’ve known each other for two years and have been together since last year.”
That was technically true; he had been with the company for two years. Thinking about it, the story was pretty well-rounded. He was a little genius.
He Chi’s cousin was clearly a social butterfly, at least much more lively than He Chi. She hadn’t called to cause trouble. Seeing how easy Fang Ci was to talk to, she couldn’t help but chat more, asking him his name and what he did.
“So you’re in the same industry?”
Fang Ci answered, “Yeah, we both work in product development.” He didn’t say anything more specific. He privately felt it was better for He Chi to tell his family about their superior-subordinate relationship himself.
The two of them chatted happily back and forth, and in the middle of it, He Chi looked at him several times.
They were almost at the residential area when He Chi finally interrupted them.
“Well, I’ll leave our Ah Chi in your hands!” the cousin said at the end.
Ah Chi? Fang Ci was stunned by the nickname. He glanced at He Chi, then said “okay” and handed the phone back to him.
He Chi was direct and just said, “I’m hanging up,” without any ceremony.
Fang Ci rubbed his nose.
The car turned onto a small road, and He Chi suddenly said, “You really like to chat?”
Fang Ci: “?” That was so sudden. He didn’t understand how his boss came to that conclusion.
He said, “Cousin was only asking out of good intentions. And getting married is our business together, so I should contribute, too.”
He Chi, who seemed to have just asked casually, nodded.
Fang Ci remembered all his random fabrications and felt a bit embarrassed. He cleared his throat and explained, “But what I just said was just for an emergency. Please don’t take it to heart.”
He Chi was silent.
Fang Ci kept looking out the window, afraid to go back and analyze his words. It was like when you black out from drinking; it seems okay at the time, but you feel weird and blush when you think about it later.
After all, he’d just told a bunch of nonsense in front of the person it was about.
Just then, Fang Ci heard He Chi speak again. He finally had the courage to turn back and listen. He Chi said:
“You’re a very good liar.”
Fang Ci: “…” He gave a strained laugh and moved his gaze back to the window.
His heart was fluttering.
They drove one more block and entered a high-end residential area. The two-story house was a single building with an open view and a small garden outside, with roses and other flowers planted. Fang Ci estimated the price of the location in his mind; it was truly exorbitant.
After admiring it, he followed closely behind He Chi and stepped inside the house.
There were two pairs of slippers at the door, one black and one white. He Chi put on the black pair, and Fang Ci put on the white one.
He Chi’s home had an industrial minimalist style and was spotless, perfectly matching his personality. The spacious living room connected to an open kitchen, with light gray and white marble countertops that felt solemn and serious. The living room only had a sofa and a projector. One might think they had walked into a conference room. Fang Ci couldn’t help but compare it to his own messy home; the difference was stark.
He was used to just collapsing on his bed when he got home, kicking off his shoes, and just lounging around until he was ready to get up and tidy up.
He Chi’s house was so clean it looked uninhabited. Fang Ci wondered if He Chi was so busy that he often just stayed at the office, or if he had another place to live.
As he was in a daze, a “meow” sound from his feet interrupted his thoughts.
Fang Ci looked down and saw a beautiful ragdoll cat with its tail up, sitting by his feet. It was fluffy like a stuffed animal. Most cats are wary of strangers, but this one wasn’t shy. Fang Ci was surprised and petted it a few times.
“What’s its name?”
He Chi stopped in the hallway. “Qiuqiu.”
The cat was living up to its name; it was incredibly round. Fang Ci, having gotten the hang of petting it, picked it up. With his other hand, he pushed his suitcase and muttered, “You’re so clingy?” He didn’t say the rest of the sentence: You’re nothing like your owner. He Chi gave off a cold, aloof vibe and was hard to approach, like a classic overbearing CEO.
People say pets take after their owners, but that seemed to be wrong.
The two of them took the luggage to the second floor. He Chi gave him a tour of the rooms. The first floor had a living room, kitchen, and a place for fitness and entertainment. The second floor had four rooms, with a study in addition to the master bedroom.
But when he saw the last room, Fang Ci was confused. The house had a major bug: there was only one master bedroom! So where was he supposed to sleep?
“Is there no second bedroom here?” Fang Ci asked.
He Chi stopped and asked, “Why would there be a second bedroom?”
Fang Ci hesitated. “Then where do I sleep?”
He Chi: “The master bedroom.”
His tone was as if it was a matter of course. Fang Ci was both tempted and afraid. The master bed was huge, and two men could definitely fit, but did they really not need a transition period? Was it appropriate to just jump into sharing a bed?
He Chi saw his surprised expression and guessed what he was thinking. He said, “We’re already married. It wouldn’t look good if guests came over and saw us sleeping in separate beds.”
Fang Ci thought about it. That made sense. They weren’t roommates. If they slept in separate beds, it would look like he was just renting a room.
“But sometimes I move around a lot in my sleep, and my schedule is a bit messy. I think a buffer period would be better,” he said tactfully. Fang Ci wasn’t a shy person, but he still wanted to be upfront. He didn’t want any conflicts in their living habits.
He Chi had also considered this. He said, “You don’t need to worry about that. My schedule is very regular. If you’re willing, we can adjust together.”
Fang Ci: “?”
He Chi thought for a moment, then added, “Living together also has its benefits. We work at the same company, so when we get home, we can work overtime together. It will also be easier to communicate if the project schedule changes.”
Fang Ci: “…”
It was as if heaven and hell switched places in a single second. His beautiful, angel-like new husband instantly turned into a cold and ruthless boss.
He wasn’t opposed to working overtime, but he would never work day and night, especially when it came from his boss’s mouth. The pressure was immense!
