Chapter 18: Right Now, We Don’t Feel Like We’re Going to Lose
“—And so, I want to ask Mom to do illustrations for two V’s.”
When I got home and did a jumping prostration to Mom, consulting her that I wanted to do V activities again, she gave me a face like she was doubting my sanity with “Are you serious…?” but that couldn’t be helped… As a mother, and as a V mom, she probably had her own thoughts on it.
After that, when Kusaka suggested “Let’s get ahead of Hime Neko with our own V activities,” I hesitated, but in the end, I nodded because it came down to a simple reason.
—It was fun.
Himeko turned out to be a regrettable scumbag, and the ending was a mess, but when I was making Chōno Asher, the act of making videos or inputting music itself was fun. The behind-the-scenes work, and video editing, turned out to be more enjoyable time than I had thought for me. So I thought I wanted to do it again if possible.
On top of that, there was also the feeling that I wanted to see the exchanges between Kusaka and Asakura as V’s because they were genuinely funny in their raw state. When Kusaka proposed the banter between the downer sexy担当 and the small-br3ast complex pair, I thought I wanted to see that. By the way, when Kusaka referred to herself as having a “small-br3ast complex,” she said it with a face that looked like she was about to die and as if she might shed bloody tears, so I think that’s probably the part that naturally turns into material.
“Sure. …Okay, but since it’s for two, give me a little time.”
In that way, after I appealed to Mom with my own feelings in my own way, in the end, she agreed to my selfishness. Yay, Mom is kind!
After that, at school, we talked about what kind of projects to do, and with Tate and Yoko’s help, my video editing PC got a major upgrade. Seriously grateful.
With things to do becoming clear like that, my daily life somehow started to feel more purposeful.
Shuko-chan also said something felt different about me, so while I told her about deciding to do personal V activities with Kusaka and Asakura, and that stuff like DTM or video editing seemed to suit me, she said she would introduce me to some personal acquaintances who might be useful as references, so it would be good to hear various things from them.
“I think it’s good to tackle anything with a goal in mind. I respect what you want to do, and I’ll support you as much as I can. Because I’m your teacher.”
…She said it so matter-of-factly, and while Shuko-chan is a good teacher, I thought she’s more of a good woman than that. The men in the world have no eye for this.
And under the supervision of the teacher Shuko-chan, on the weekend, we were going to hear stories from people who were Shuko-chan’s acquaintances doing personal V activities. The meeting place was a private room restaurant in the city. She told us not to worry about the bill, but for me, Kusaka, and Asakura, who only knew family restaurants after school, it was an unknown shop, so we got tense.
After meeting up with Kusaka and Asakura and arriving at the store a little earlier than the appointed time, Shuko-chan was waiting at the entrance.
Shuko-chan, emanating an aura of a sharp, capable woman in a slightly stylish shirt and slim pants style.
“You’re early. Both of you, come on in; they’re waiting ahead.”
She said that and guided us inside to the reserved private room, where there were two women around Shuko-chan’s age.
“Hi hi, nice to meet you. I’m Kirara Yano☆”
“Hello, I’m Yuzuri Ren. You’re Shuko’s students, right?”
The two women introduced themselves like that—probably not their real names, but those names sounded familiar. And those voices too, I had heard them a lot in videos I watched when doing personal V activities.
“Faa~~~, both of them are final bosses.”
Asakura, unusually, looked genuinely shocked with a face like a space cat. Amazing, Asakura of all people was frozen.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Takao. I’m a student in the class that Shuko-ch… Mr. Yaguruma is in charge of, and I do DTM input and editing for V activities. This is Kusaka, and that one is Asakura.”
“Um, I’m Kusaka. We haven’t debuted yet, but we’re also Mr. Yaguruma’s students. It’s an honor to meet you.”
“You two both have big b00bs.”
We did self-introductions in order, me, Kusaka, Asakura, but only Asakura said something weird. No, they’re definitely big. …Ah, no good!
“Tak-kun… they’re like candles, so pretty.”
Kusaka was murmuring with vacant eyes, as if hallucinating something in Ren and Kirara’s ample chests. Stop that; that’s a death flag once the main story starts, I shook her shoulders. In the end, she’ll end up as the aunt in the mascot, so that’s no good.
“…Hahaha, just as Shuko said, you kids are funny. Go ahead, ask anything♪ We’ll answer whatever we can or give advice on.”
“Yeah yeah. It kinda feels like youth~, makes me nostalgic.”
Ren and Kirara said that in good spirits.
…What the heck is with Shuko-chan’s connections?! I was honestly surprised, but being able to hear from the two who were at the peak as personal V’s was a golden opportunity I couldn’t ask for. It was like a windfall, but for me who had been doing it self-taught, it was an invaluable chance to learn, and unusually for me, my tension rose.
On the other hand, Kusaka was pretty stiff with tension, and Asakura was surprised, saying “It’s the first time I’ve seen b00bs bigger than mine besides Mom.” Asakura, you have this overly self-paced side, so try reading the air a bit more.
They said they outsourced the DTM input and arrangement, but their stories on song selection, planning, above all, interacting with listeners, hyping them up, picking up comments, and so on were way too reference-worthy. Both of them were good at explaining, or rather good at conveying things to people, but that made sense since they usually did V activities with conversations to faceless listeners; it was impressive.
I keenly felt that the things we kids thought up or came up with on our own were ultimately just in the realm of kids. The experience with Chōno Asher wasn’t wasted, but comparing and matching it with my past experiences, thinking “I should have done it that way” or “like this,” it was all learning.
…As expected, the way adults who have accumulated life experience think, especially the advice from people who have climbed to the top contending as personal V’s, is precious wisdom.
The V that Kusaka, Asakura, and I will make from now on will surely surpass Chōno Asher; that’s the hunch I have. At least, it’s definitely clear we won’t lose to Himeko, who might explode at any moment and is utterly unpredictable.
While thinking such things and looking at the other two, Kusaka was diligently writing notes in the notebook she brought, and you could feel her amazing motivation and effort probably because she’s fundamentally serious. Asakura was also listening with a serious face, but…
“How did you grow them that big? I was a frog in a well realizing I’m still so small. Please teach me, teachers.”
She was asking with keen interest, but you, try to stay quiet a bit, okay? The direction of seriousness is different for you alone. And stop it because Kusaka took a stray bullet there and suffered a fatal wound, looking like she’s on the verge of death!
