- Chapter 10 - Encounter with Senior Sister at Back Mountain
Having advanced in her cultivation realm, An Ran was drenched in sweat. She didn’t want to disturb Sister Cat’s sleep, but she desperately needed a bath. She rose cautiously, careful not to wake her.
But when she climbed down from the bed, she discovered Sister Cat was no longer in her cozy nest!
An Ran couldn’t help but feel puzzled. Was her sister still wandering around outside in the middle of the night?
She searched the courtyard and its surroundings, but Sister Cat was nowhere to be found. A growing sense of anxiety began to gnaw at her.
She hurried back to her room, quickly changed into fresh clothes, and sat on the bed to wait. But even after a long while, Sister Cat didn’t return.
As dawn approached, with the sky still only faintly illuminated, An Ran decided to expand her search area.
She continued searching tirelessly until she reached the vicinity of Back Mountain. There, she saw Sister Cat, transformed into her Great Cat Beast form, burst through the mountain’s barrier, her eyes blazing with fiery light.
An Ran called out softly, “Sister?” But Sister Cat seemed completely oblivious, sprinting toward their residence without acknowledging her.
Just before entering the courtyard, she reverted to her small cat form, nimbly scaled the courtyard wall, and slipped through the window into the room she shared with An Ran.
An Ran followed Sister Cat all the way back. She gently poked Sister Cat’s body with her finger and whispered, “Sister?” But Sister Cat showed no reaction whatsoever.
No wonder Sister Cat has looked so tired lately, An Ran thought.
An Ran fell into deep thought, completely baffled by the situation.
As the morning sun began to stream in, Sister Cat slowly woke up from her slumber.
An Ran watched Sister Cat, her heart filled with confusion.
She tentatively asked Sister Cat about her sleepwalking.
However, Sister Cat looked completely bewildered, with no memory of the previous night. She only mumbled, “I just remember dreaming about running under a vast sky. It felt so comfortable, so free and unrestrained, as if my body had become much lighter.”
This answer only deepened An Ran’s confusion. She resolved that if Sister Cat ever sleepwalked again, she would follow her to see what was happening.
However, over the next few days, Sister Cat showed no further signs of sleepwalking.
Although An Ran was a cultivator who could cultivate through the night, she was still a modern person accustomed to a regular lifestyle.
Going without sleep for several days began to take a psychological toll on her.
Despite her exhaustion, An Ran forced herself to meditate and cultivate on her bed, waiting for Sister Cat’s sleepwalking to recur.
One night, as she lay awake counting sheep, a sudden “meow” startled her. Sister Cat was moving!
An Ran turned her head and saw Sister Cat leap out the window in a single bound.
She scrambled to her feet and followed, watching as Sister Cat’s form rapidly expanded, transforming into a massive creature that darted toward Back Mountain. An Ran hastily summoned her Flying Sword and gave chase, shouting, “Sister! Wait for me! Where are you going?!”
They were nearing Back Mountain, but the area was protected by a barrier that only cultivators at the Golden Core Stage or higher could penetrate. An Ran’s Qi Refining Stage spiritual energy was already limited, and it quickly depleted as she piloted her Flying Sword.
Exhausted, she plummeted to the ground, clutching her bruised knee as she sat on the cold earth, sobbing softly, “Sister! Don’t leave me!”
As if hearing An Ran’s cries, Sister Cat stopped. She turned back, padded over to An Ran, and scooped her up by the scruff of her neck. With a flick of her head, she tossed An Ran onto her back before resuming her headlong dash toward Back Mountain.
An Ran barely had time to cling to Sister Cat’s neck as the feline leaped over the barrier with her on her back.
Inside the Back Mountain barrier, the world was completely different from what she had seen from the outside. The perpetual dense fog that shrouded the area had vanished.
An Ran gazed around at towering mountains and lush forests. The atmosphere here was not gloomy but rather refreshing and vibrant.
Sister Cat, with her agile form, carried An Ran at lightning speed. Demon beasts in the forest hastily retreated at the sight of her, seemingly terrified.
Clinging tightly to Sister Cat’s back, An Ran felt the crisp mountain breeze caress her face. The unrestrained wind seemed to carry nature’s gifts, sweeping away all fatigue and worries.
This was an indescribable sense of freedom and ease. No wonder Sister Cat’s first act after transforming was to come here and revel in unbridled running.
Yet An Ran continued to try calling out to her older sister, but the sleepwalking woman remained unresponsive.
Suddenly, Sister Cat stopped before a pitch-black cave. Just as An Ran was about to ask about it, she heard a woman’s pained moans coming from within.
An Ran’s heart tightened. She immediately signaled Sister Cat to enter the cave.
Though still in a sleepwalking daze, Sister Cat obeyed An Ran’s instructions and headed toward the cave from which the sound originated.
As Sister Cat carried An Ran into the cave, An Ran saw a woman curled up on the ground, desperately suppressing her pain. It was Eldest Senior Sister Gu Ruohan.
Gu Ruohan’s once delicate face was now contorted in agony, a sight that pierced An Ran’s heart.
An Ran hurriedly jumped off Sister Cat’s back and rushed to Gu Ruohan’s side. She found Gu Ruohan’s body convulsing uncontrollably, her entire frame ice-cold.
An Ran tried to help Gu Ruohan lean against a massive boulder in the center of the cave, hoping to warm her.
But Gu Ruohan suddenly grabbed An Ran in a tight embrace, trapping her completely.
Knowing Gu Ruohan was in immense pain, An Ran struggled to break free from her grip, but her efforts were futile.
Gu Ruohan’s embrace felt like ice, the chilling energy within her body seeping into An Ran, making her shiver uncontrollably.
At that moment, Sister Cat padded over and settled down beside Gu Ruohan and An Ran.
From Sister Cat’s body radiated an indescribable warmth, a warmth that seemed to possess a magical power. It gradually melted the cold emanating from Gu Ruohan’s dantian, temporarily easing her suffering.
Gu Ruohan slowly released An Ran. Seeing how effective Sister Cat’s proximity was, An Ran quickly shifted Gu Ruohan closer to the cat, urging Sister Cat to envelop her tightly.
At that moment, Gu Ruohan, who had been frowning with her eyes tightly shut, unexpectedly grabbed An Ran’s hand and bit down hard on the fleshy part between her thumb and index finger.
An Ran cried out in pain, struggling fiercely. Gu Ruohan clenched her teeth, refusing to release her grip until the coldness in her dantian had completely dissipated. Only then did she let go.
Afterward, Gu Ruohan pressed An Ran’s hand firmly against her chest.
An Ran tried to pull her hand free, but Gu Ruohan’s grip was too strong. She couldn’t break free no matter how hard she struggled.
During her struggle, An Ran’s hand brushed against a soft mound on Gu Ruohan’s chest. She trembled as if electrocuted, her face flushing crimson. She froze, no longer daring to move, and allowed Gu Ruohan to keep her hand pressed against her bosom.
With her hand trapped, An Ran couldn’t adjust her position. She was forced to lie against Gu Ruohan in a particularly intimate posture, nestled in Sister Cat’s embrace.
The side pressed against Gu Ruohan felt significantly warmer than the side against Sister Cat. An Ran was sweating profusely, her body tense, yet she dared not move even an inch.
