- Chapter 11 - Has Senior Sister Fallen into Demonic Possession?
Gu Ruohan had come to the cave because she was stuck at a cultivation bottleneck, unable to break through to the Nascent Soul Stage.
That night, she decided to venture to the Back Mountain and meditate in this familiar cave, hoping to break through her cultivation barrier.
As Gu Ruohan sat cross-legged in the cave, entering a meditative state to break through the Nascent Soul Stage bottleneck, her anxiety gradually intensified.
She sensed that this particular bottleneck was proving far more difficult to overcome than any she had faced before.
She desperately tried to calm herself, reminding herself that only by maintaining composure could she break through.
Yet the cold within her grew increasingly intense. Her bl00d seemed to freeze, her body began to convulse uncontrollably, and an icy chill threatened to pierce through her flesh, radiating outward from her core.
Finally, unable to withstand the bone-chilling cold, she collapsed to the ground, curling into a fetal position.
At that moment, a massive, mysterious beast shadow appeared at the cave entrance. Gu Ruohan saw the flickering flame mark on its forehead—a creature many times larger than an ordinary cat, its power likely reaching the fifth-tier demon beast level.
The cat-like demon beast slowly entered the cave. Its fur was pure white, and its body radiated a powerful aura. If it were to attack Gu Ruohan now, she would be utterly defenseless.
The flame-shaped mark on its forehead pulsed rhythmically, emitting an intense heat.
Through her hazy vision, Gu Ruohan noticed a young woman riding on the demon beast’s back. The figure seemed vaguely familiar.
Time seemed to freeze. Gu Ruohan’s breath quickened, as if her throat were being squeezed.
She tried to struggle, but her body felt bound by an invisible force.
Her vision blurred, and the surrounding sounds faded away, even the sound of her own heartbeat growing distant.
The young woman dismounted and reached out to help Gu Ruohan up. But Gu Ruohan, shivering with cold, clung to the woman’s warm body as if grasping at a lifeline.
Only when a warmer presence approached from behind did Gu Ruohan’s grip on the young woman loosen slightly.
Suddenly, Gu Ruohan felt a parched dryness in her mouth and an overwhelming urge to bite something. Without hesitation, she seized the young woman’s hand and bit down hard.
The warmth behind her gradually calmed her down, and she released her grip on the hand she had been biting.
However, she still held the hand firmly in both of hers, pressing it against her chest. This is mine, she thought fiercely. No one can take it away…
Only after a long while did she suddenly snap her eyes open, sitting up groggily from the ground.
She moved sluggishly, feeling someone nearby, and quickly opened her eyes.
Because they were so close, the girl’s breath tickled Gu Ruohan’s face.
Gu Ruohan finally came fully awake. She opened her eyes and looked at the person before her, the girl’s face gradually coming into focus—it was An Ran.
Gu Ruohan’s heart tightened. She tried to push away from An Ran’s embrace and sit up, but felt movement against her chest. Looking down, she saw An Ran’s hand clutched tightly in her own. She quickly released it.
An Ran hurriedly withdrew her hand, then stood up and asked, “Senior Sister, are you feeling better now?”
Gu Ruohan felt a burning heat in her chest. After calming herself, she resumed her usual cold expression and said flatly, “Thank you for what happened last night.”
Just as An Ran was about to exchange politeries with Gu Ruohan, she noticed Sister Cat had woken up.
The cat approached Gu Ruohan, lowered her head, and gazed at the jade pendant hanging from Gu Ruohan’s waist. She then reached out with her paw to play with the pendant, seemingly captivated by it.
An Ran, thoroughly embarrassed, quickly pulled Sister Cat back, her face flushed with apology. “I’m so sorry, Senior Sister. My… my cat doesn’t understand proper etiquette…”
At that moment, Gu Ruohan noticed the large cat behind An Ran staring intently at the jade pendant, its eyes filled with longing. After a moment’s contemplation, she decided to gift the pendant to the cat.
Last night’s events had made her realize that this large cat was likely the same kitten An Ran had been raising.
With a gentle motion, she unfastened the jade pendant from her waist and offered it to An Ran as a token of gratitude.
An Ran paused, slightly taken aback by Gu Ruohan’s gesture, before shaking her head. “Eldest Senior Sister, this isn’t right. It looks quite valuable.”
But Sister Cat, overjoyed, bounded forward and snatched the pendant from Gu Ruohan’s hand with her mouth.
Knowing how much Sister Cat loved it, An Ran didn’t insist on refusing.
After thanking Gu Ruohan, An Ran carefully retrieved the jade pendant from Sister Cat’s mouth and examined it closely.
The ancient jade, shaped like a plump, lustrous autumn maple leaf, felt smooth and warm in her hand. She fastened the pendant around Sister Cat’s neck.
At that moment, Gu Ruohan finally noticed the two rows of deep teeth marks on An Ran’s left hand, along with a large bruise covering the bite area.
A sudden realization of her own inappropriate behavior the previous night washed over Gu Ruohan, and the tips of her ears flushed almost imperceptibly.
Gu Ruohan gently drew An Ran’s hand closer, scrutinizing the bruised area on her palm. A trace of unspoken apology flickered in her eyes as she gazed at the purple mark.
Seeing Gu Ruohan’s expression, An Ran reassured her, “It’s nothing, Eldest Senior Sister! It doesn’t even hurt that much!”
Gu Ruohan remained silent, simply retrieving healing ointment from her Storage Ring and applying it to An Ran’s wound.
