- Episode 33 - Tea Party with The Ladies
“Madam! How about bringing ‘Mochi Mochi Donuts’ as a gift for tomorrow’s tea party?”
The tea party hosted by the wealthy ladies of the earldom that I had wanted to attend for a long time.
I am very interested in the fabric woven there as part of their social activities, and the other day, Marcus made an appointment with those ladies for me.
The day of the tea party is finally approaching tomorrow, but…
Wow, I’m so nervous. If we talk about the wealthy in such a rich earldom, wouldn’t there be an incredibly fabulous world unfolding before us!?
There’s no doubt that I’m looking forward to it, but for someone like me who is still very much an ordinary person, it’s quite nerve-wracking.
“Yes, it seems like the ladies would find it rare and enjoyable, and it would be great to hear their feedback. Let’s do that. Do you think we could ask the baker?”
“Yes! In fact, Baker was the one who promoted it. He said he wanted to hear the ladies’ opinions.”
“Well, I see. Baker is really dedicated to research! So reliable.”
The baker has been tirelessly improving the chewy bread since then, and now the chewy bread is vastly superior in taste, texture, and variety compared to what was eaten the day after it arrived in the Earl’s territory.
Mochi mochi donuts are the evolved version. The dough is slightly adjusted from mochi mochi bread, sugar is added, and they are deep-fried in oil.
Sweet and fluffy, yet crispy and chewy, the exquisite donuts are ready.
This is going to work…! It’s going to sell!!
And I am convinced. The day when the Mochi Mochi whirlwind sweeps through the royal capital is near.
The next day, Marie and I dressed up a bit more than usual in a town girl style and were guided by Marcus to the house where the tea party was to be held.
Ohhhh! Just as I thought, it’s a splendid house!!
The house we arrived at was so magnificent that it could easily be mistaken for a noble’s residence.
The woman who is the host of today’s tea party and the lady of this house is waiting for me at the front door.
Since it’s an introduction to Marcus, they are probably going out of their way to show the utmost courtesy.
We said goodbye to Marcus at the front door, and only Marie and I were allowed inside the house.
“Ada here. Nice to meet you.”
The organizer was a very elegant and glamorous woman in her 40s, perfectly suited to the term “madam.”
“This is Anna. Thank you for the invitation today.”
“I’m Marie. I’m very happy to be invited to such a wonderful home. Thank you very much!”
The women were older than we had expected, but they were happy to see us younger participants and welcomed us warmly.
“Hehehe, it’s delightful that such young ladies are interested in the fabric we weave.”
When Ms. Ada said that with a cheerful laugh, the ladies around her agreed as well.
The tea party had a very homely atmosphere.
I’m glad! I was worried it might feel like a noble tea party! But I’ve never been to a noble tea party.
To be precise, there was actually one time, but it was more of a nagging sister-in-law-bashing party organized by Christina and her entourage, so I don’t count it as a tea party. I’ve erased it from my memory. (But I still have a mental note of the participants’ faces and names!)
While I was absentmindedly recalling such trivial matters, Marie was happily chatting with the ladies.
At times like this, Marie’s high communication skills really come in handy.
Especially since Marie is the type who is adored by older people, it seems she quickly captured the hearts of the ladies.
Right away, she’s learning how to weave cloth from the ladies nearby and is having a great time.
In the meantime, I decided to talk with Ada.
I also want to gather information on where to source the thread from!
“I wish my daughter would take an interest in weaving like you all do.”
“Such a wonderful piece of fabric, and yet, my lady, you have no interest in it?”
“Yeah, I’m really interested in dressing up, but it seems I’m not interested in the materials.”
Ada shrugged her shoulders and said that with a laugh.
“We also feel it’s a shame to lose this fabric that has been passed down from our great-grandmother’s time, so we enjoy it as a hobby. But gradually, old things might be phased out…”
“Really! This fabric would definitely be popular even in the royal capital… It’s such a waste to lose it. Don’t you have any thoughts on properly inheriting the technique as a business rather than as a hobby, for example?”
“Well, this cloth?”
Ada-san made a slightly surprised face and then started to giggle.
“Thank you for saying that. But this is just cloth woven by an amateur. I can’t even imagine it becoming popular in the royal capital.”
No good. If a little girl like her says that, it really lacks any persuasive power…
Here, I will make a grand entrance as the Countess.
“This fabric is wonderful!”
It might have been more convincing if I had said that.
I messed up the plan~.
