My Dearest Sister-In-Law, I've Been Waiting For You To Get A Divorce For A Long Time - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
â—Ž “If I were a man, would you not have chosen my brother?” â—Ž
Don’t let Gu Wenyao’s usual sickly appearance fool you. With her long hair tied up in a jade crown and her long blue robe, she truly looked like a handsome, albeit delicate, young man.
Mo Shuqing gently pulled Gu Wenyao’s arm, making her slowly turn around. A look of surprise appeared in her eyes. “You’re handsome.”
She looked more like the Marquis’s young heir than her own brother, Gu Shufeng.
Mo Shuqing sighed softly. “On our wedding day, my head was covered, so I couldn’t see you clearly. Seeing you now, it seems like marrying you wouldn’t have been a loss.”
Gu Wenyao’s disguise was so good that she was truly hard to tell if she was male or female.
But Mama Liu was hesitant. “Is this… is this appropriate?”
Gu Wenyao was well prepared with her answer. “Mother agreed.”
Madam Yu’s name was particularly effective for dealing with Mama Liu.
“First Madam, should we depart now?”
Once everything was loaded, the coachman came forward to ask.
Without giving Mama Liu time to object, Gu Wenyao took Mo Shuqing’s wrist and helped her into the carriage.
Once the carriage was moving steadily, Mo Shuqing glanced at the person beside her, her eyes falling on her flat chest, and she felt a little curious.
Mo Shuqing’s beautiful lips parted and closed two or three times, but she was too embarrassed to ask.
She remembered that when Ayao wore women’s clothing, her figure was shapely. Though not as dramatic as some, she had a delicate and obvious curve. Especially on the day of the tea ceremony, the light green silk ribbon tied around her waist had highlighted her slender figure and graceful curves.
Noticing Mo Shuqing’s gaze, Gu Wenyao lightly coughed. She placed her fingertips on the back of Mo Shuqing’s hand that was resting on her skirt and looked at her with a knowing glance. “If you’re curious, sister-in-law, why don’t you feel for yourself?”
Mo Shuqing was half-willing and allowed Gu Wenyao to take her fingers and press her palm against her flat chest.
For some reason, Mo Shuqing didn’t dare to make eye contact with Gu Wenyao for a moment. Her ears even felt hot.
Gu Wenyao’s disguise made her feel like she was seeing a stranger, but an attractive one. In the moment her palm touched her, Mo Shuqing couldn’t even tell if the beating heart she felt was her own or Gu Wenyao’s.
The only sensation was that even through the fabric, she could still feel the soft and delicate femininity beneath.
Gu Wenyao carefully watched Mo Shuqing’s expression. Seeing her long lashes lowered and her ears flushing, she hugged Mo Shuqing’s arm even tighter, pressing her palm against the back of Mo Shuqing’s hand and making her palm touch the curve beneath her clothes.
“Sister-in-law,” she said in a soft, enchanting voice. “If I were a man, would you not have chosen my brother?”
Gu Wenyao’s voice was filled with a subtle temptation. “If you like how I look, sister-in-law, I can dress like this day and night from now on.”
Dressed as a man, Gu Wenyao could clearly feel Mo Shuqing’s satisfaction and curiosity with her appearance.
“Ayao, our marriage was an agreement between our elders. No matter if you were a man or a woman, I could only choose your brother.” Mo Shuqing pulled her hand back, seemingly unaffected by her charms.
She said, “It’s the friendship we had since we were little that makes us so close now. If you were a man, my attitude towards you would probably be the same as it is towards your brother.”
She would have come and, without a word, incited the Marquis to have her beaten with twenty military canes and made her lie in bed for half a month.
Gu Wenyao was speechless.
Gu Wenyao’s body couldn’t handle even one cane. She had to give up her fantasy of being a real man.
After sitting up straight, the heat on Mo Shuqing’s face faded. She attributed her physical reaction to Ayao being too good-looking, so much so that she, as a woman, was blushing.
She looked at her again openly and saw that Gu Wenyao’s collar was slightly wrinkled. Just as she was about to reach out to straighten it, Gu Wenyao pouted and tugged at her collar herself.
It had only been slightly wrinkled, but after she tugged at it a few times, it looked as if Mo Shuqing had just put her hand inside her clothes and groped her.
Mo Shuqing’s face was impassive. She reached out and straightened Gu Wenyao’s collar herself, to prevent the servants from seeing and getting the wrong idea.
After all, Gu Wenyao was dressed as a man.
“It’s just that I realized too late,” Gu Wenyao said, resting her hands on her legs, her face slightly raised and her eyes lowered. Her gaze was on Mo Shuqing’s long, beautiful fingers. Her voice was muffled and hard to hear. “Otherwise, if the first legitimate son were gone, the second legitimate son could have also fulfilled the agreement and married you, sister-in-law.”
If she couldn’t get past the worldly judgment, what was the harm in a woman dressing as a man?
Mo Shuqing didn’t hear her clearly and looked up at her. Gu Wenyao immediately looked docile and gentle, ready to be touched, which made Mo Shuqing smile helplessly. She raised her hand and gently flicked Gu Wenyao’s forehead with her finger. “Muttering to yourself, who are you talking about?”
The carriage stopped at the Mo family’s back gate.
Knowing their daughter was coming for her home visit, the Mo couple had already brought the servants out to greet her.
First, because their daughter had married into a high-ranking family, and second, because she was the child they loved and owed the most.
“That scoundrel Gu Shufeng, I’ll scold him to death when he gets out of the carriage.” Lord Mo, a civil official, rolled up his sleeves and put his hands on his hips.
If scolding didn’t work, he knew a thing or two about using a stick and his fists.
“Even though there’s a difference in rank, our daughter marrying him is a great honor for his Marquis manor. With our daughter there, who would dare call the Marquis a crude soldier to his face?”
Lord Mo muttered, clearly not planning to give the guests a good impression. “Today, I have to let that young punk know that our Shuqing marrying him is his good fortune. I’ll make sure he never dares to show her a single bit of disrespect or neglect in the future.”
It wasn’t that he wanted to be angry, it was just that the whole thing was too ridiculous. He was a man of letters and propriety. He never imagined the Marquis manor would use a girl to perform the wedding ceremony for her brother.
If his daughter hadn’t been so capable and gotten the Marquis to punish Gu Shufeng on the second day of their marriage, the rumors outside would have been unbearable. While the Mo family didn’t care much for reputation, they didn’t disrespect it so much that they would allow it to be trampled on.
They had returned to the capital with the help of the Marquis, but they had also fulfilled the Marquis’s wish by marrying off their daughter. Both families had gained something.
Lord Mo had previously thought of having Mo Shuqing pretend to be a virtuous and gentle wife to win the favor of the Marquis manor, and in the future, to convince the Marquis to help with his eldest son, Mo Qing’an’s, return to the capital. But he wasn’t so morally bankrupt that he would allow his daughter to be disrespected.
“Alright, put away your arrogance,” Madam Zhou said, casting a cold glance at him. “That young punk got twenty military canes. He’s probably still groaning in bed. He won’t be accompanying Shuqing on her home visit.”
Madam Zhou knew what was going on. She had already calculated that only her daughter would be coming for the home visit, but she still put on a grand and lively show of welcoming her home.
She proudly lifted her hand and stood straight, allowing the neighbors in the alley to open their doors and sneak a peek.
Everyone was certain that Gu Shufeng wouldn’t show Mo Shuqing any respect and wouldn’t accompany her on her home visit. They even thought he disdained the Mo family. But then, two carriages filled with gifts for the home visit slowly passed by each of their doors.
The carriage wheels left deep marks on the bluestone, showing just how heavy the cargo inside was.
“The First Madam has returned.” A servant shouted loudly.
The grand and comfortable carriage stopped directly in front of the door. The footstool was set up.
From a distance, the first person to get off was a young man in men’s clothing whose appearance was a little indistinct. Looking at his figure, he looked a little like the slender Gu Shufeng.
“Gu Shufeng” got off the carriage first, then turned and helped Mo Shuqing down.
The two looked like a deeply devoted and harmonious newlywed couple. Just looking at them from afar made them seem like a perfect match.
But up close, Madam Zhou, the First Madam of the Mo family, didn’t seem happy at all that her “son-in-law” had come with her daughter.
In fact, after seeing Gu Wenyao dressed as a man getting off the carriage first, Madam Zhou’s expression changed. The only reason she was standing with her hands up and not saying anything was because they were in front of others.
Lord Mo was also stunned. He reached out to point at Gu Wenyao. “You…”
“My husband,” Madam Zhou said in a low voice. “Everyone has their eyes on us. We’ll talk about this inside the manor.”
When she said this, the corners of her eyes were fixed on Gu Wenyao.
The smile on Gu Wenyao’s face didn’t change, but her heart skipped a beat.
Oh no. She had a feeling that the letters she had sent to Mo Shuqing had been read by Madam Zhou.
