My Dearest Sister-In-Law, I've Been Waiting For You To Get A Divorce For A Long Time - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
â—Ž “Sister-in-law, can I sleep with you at night?” â—Ž
“Gu Wenyao’s** eyes were glistening, and she secretly pouted at Mo Shuqing from behind Madam Zhou. She looked utterly pathetic, with a pleading expression that practically wrote on her face:
‘Sister-in-law, say something!‘”
Mo Shuqing had originally intended to speak, but after seeing her like this, she held her tongue and just smiled.
In all the time they’d been together these past few days, Mo Shuqing had never seen such a childish and helpless side of Gu Wenyao. She immediately pretended not to see Gu Wenyao’s pleading eyes, picked up her bowl and chopsticks, and put the back of her hand against her nose to hide her smile as she looked away, as if it had nothing to do with her.
Seeing that Mo Shuqing was mischievously enjoying the show, Gu Wenyao’s eyes changed.
She kept a perfectly flawless smile on her face, but secretly, the hand that had been pinching Mo Shuqing’s sleeve now moved to her thigh, giving it a firm, but not hard, squeeze.
She asked in a soft, listless voice, as if seeking guidance, “Sister-in-law, do you think I should be looking for a husband to marry?”
The moment her hand pressed against Mo Shuqing’s thigh, Gu Wenyao clearly felt the long, relaxed line of her leg tense up. The legs that were already held together were now clenched even tighter like a clam, trying to get away from her.
Gu Wenyao’s breathing hitched.
She hadn’t been thinking of anything else, but the moment Mo Shuqing’s legs clamped down on her fingers, Gu Wenyao’s heart grew hot. Her eyes flickered. She wanted to look under the table but was conscious of the others present.
And the more she couldn’t see, the more room her imagination had.
Mo Shuqing glanced to the side, giving her a helpless look. She put down her bowl and chopsticks and said to Madam Zhou, “Mother, just put away your matchmaker’s heart. Ayao knows what she’s doing.”
If she kept pressuring her, not only would Gu Wenyao get the wrong idea, but Mo Shuqing herself would start to think that Madam Zhou was trying to drive Gu Wenyao out of the Gu family so she could have full control of the household authority.
After speaking, Mo Shuqing’s hand naturally fell to her side and gave Gu Wenyao’s wrist a light pat, her legs slightly parting.
The gentle, almost weightless touch made Gu Wenyao’s heart flutter. Her ears turned pink.
Gu Wenyao reluctantly lowered her eyes and pulled her hand back, resting it on her own thigh.
She subtly curled her fingers inward, as if savoring the feeling.
It was strange. When she touched her own legs, it felt like she was touching a stick for stirring a fire. No matter how she caressed them, she couldn’t find any beauty in it. But the moment her fingertips touched Mo Shuqing’s legs, it felt like she was caressing the most precious soft jade in the world, so lovely that she couldn’t let go. She even wanted to press her face against it to feel it in detail.
If she could, she wanted to use her lips to measure every inch of the inner thigh, going up.
Gu Wenyao’s throat tightened. She picked up her teacup and took a small sip.
She admitted that her thoughts about Mo Shuqing were not pure.
It was fine when she couldn’t see her, but now that she was right in front of her, she was becoming more and more unable to control herself.
“Alright, alright, I guess I’m worrying too much. I just hope little Ayao truly has a plan for her future,” Madam Zhou said, giving Mo Shuqing a look. She wondered who she was doing all this for.
There were some things she couldn’t say to Mo Shuqing, but she could hint at them to Gu Wenyao.
Since setting up a blind date for Gu Wenyao didn’t work, Madam Zhou thought of another way.
Madam Zhou said, “Shuqing, you rarely get to come back. After you eat, go see Shiyu. She cried so much on your wedding day. Your auntie told me she cried all night and her eyes were swollen.”
Gu Wenyao stopped sipping her tea. Her gaze subtly shifted to Mo Shuqing beside her.
Mo Shuqing thought she had forgotten who Shiyu was, so she gently introduced her. “Shiyu is Auntie Fu’s daughter. She’s nine years old now. You even touched her face when you came to our manor before I left.”
Madam Zhou heard this and smiled. “Yes, that’s her. Life was hard in Lingnan. When the manor was short-handed, Shuqing was the one who took care of Shiyu. The two of them have a bond just like you two did when you were little.”
Madam Zhou felt her point was very clear. “Shuqing treats you just as she treats her. You are both her sisters, which is why both you and Shiyu are so attached to her.”
Unlike Mo Shiyu, who had both parents, Gu Wenyao, who had a mother and almost no father, was more attached to Mo Shuqing. This was because she had lacked the love of her parents, and Mo Shuqing had been good to her, which led to her being so dependent on her.
But Madam Zhou wanted Gu Wenyao to realize that Mo Shuqing’s kindness to her as a child was not a unique or exclusive affection. If she could be so loving to Gu Wenyao, she could naturally be even more loving to her own sister, Mo Shiyu.
In Mo Shuqing’s eyes, they were both her sisters, without exception.
Therefore, Gu Wenyao’s other affection for Mo Shuqing was just unrequited love.
Gu Wenyao understood the underlying meaning of Madam Zhou’s words. Precisely because she understood, she slowly lowered her gaze, holding her teacup and taking small sips.
The tea repeatedly washed away the taste of the food in her mouth, and in the end, all that was left was the bitter taste of tea.
She sat quietly. Even in men’s clothing, the way her thin shoulders drooped made her look pitiful.
Madam Zhou saw her lower her head and felt a pang of guilt. She knew that her words were like a lamp she had just extinguished in Gu Wenyao’s heart—cruel and ruthless, but necessary.
Madam Zhou silently served Gu Wenyao a bowl of nourishing ginseng and chicken soup and placed it in front of her. “Eat more.”
Gu Wenyao forced a smile and looked up at her. “Thank you, Auntie Zhou.”
After lunch, Lord and Madam Zhou went to rest, and Mo Shuqing took Gu Wenyao to the backyard to find Mo Shiyu.
“Auntie.”
Mo Shuqing saw Auntie Fu waiting at the small courtyard gate and immediately understood. She turned to Gu Wenyao and said, “Shiyu must be sleeping. She always takes a nap in the afternoon.”
Gu Wenyao looked at Mo Shuqing with a meaningful gaze. Her voice was drawn out. “Sister-in-law is truly so devoted to Shiyu, to know that she loves to nap.”
Mo Shuqing glanced at her, and then again. After exchanging greetings with Auntie Fu, she went into the courtyard to see Mo Shiyu.
“I told her you were coming for your home visit today, and she was so excited last night that she didn’t sleep at all…” Auntie Fu said with a gentle look in her eyes, looking at the little girl sleeping on the soft couch. “I tried to wake her up a few times, but I couldn’t.”
Auntie Fu sighed. “If she wakes up and finds out you came and left, she’ll probably cry.”
Mo Shuqing sat on the edge of the couch, a slight smile in her eyes. “Don’t wake her. Let her sleep. I’ll come back and see her again when I have time.”
Mo Shuqing picked up a nearby fan and gently fanned Mo Shiyu a few times. “It’s getting hotter. Don’t be thrifty, Auntie. Have them send over a few more ice basins. Shiyu can’t stand the heat.”
Auntie Fu smiled and agreed. She then had a servant pour tea for Mo Shuqing and Gu Wenyao. When she turned around, she found that Gu Wenyao hadn’t come inside at all.
Gu Wenyao only stood by the door, looking inside. Her eyes were on Mo Shuqing, watching her sit by the couch, speaking in a low voice so as not to wake Mo Shiyu, and watching her gently and patiently fan her.
Every scene, every action, and every word was like a sharp dagger being slowly and heavily pushed into her heart.
Gu Wenyao’s hand rested on the door frame. Her rounded nails felt like they were digging into the wood. She was almost morbidly enjoying this pain and jealousy, repeatedly asking herself:
What am I?
What am I to Mo Shuqing?
Mo Shuqing was repeating their shared past with Mo Shiyu. So what was she?
The sun was warm on her back, but Gu Wenyao felt her heart go cold and numb.
“Let’s go. Since Shiyu is sleeping, we should say goodbye to my mother and head back,” Mo Shuqing said, handing the fan to Auntie Fu and walking toward Gu Wenyao.
Gu Wenyao’s emotions were flat. When she passed by the garden, she casually plucked a rose. Her palm enclosed the large, red flower, and she expressionlessly curled her fingers, slowly tightening her grip.
She walked behind Mo Shuqing. Her gaze moved from Mo Shuqing’s shoulders, like a hungry tongue, to the gentle sway of her hips as she walked. “Sister-in-law is so good at getting little girls to like her.”
Gu Wenyao raised her hand. Her sleeve slid down, revealing her thin forearm. The petals of the flower overflowed between her fingers. The red petals against her pale skin created a sharp contrast. The juice, like bl00d, slowly ran down her wrist. “First, it was me when I was little, and now it’s Mo Shiyu. I guess Shiyu and I are just immature and troublesome little sisters to you, aren’t we?”
“Not really. But Shiyu is a little like you when you were little,” Mo Shuqing said. “When we have time, I’ll bring you back again. If she’s awake, you’ll really like her when you meet her.”
“I don’t want to like her,” Gu Wenyao said, upset. After she had finished destroying the petals in her hand, she found it boring and tossed the ruined flower into the flowerbed.
She took out a handkerchief and carefully wiped the flower juice from her palm and fingers. In her heart, she was still holding a grudge that made her feel so uncomfortable.
Gu Wenyao clenched the handkerchief in her hand and stood still, staring at Mo Shuqing as she slowly walked away. She wanted to bite her hard twice to vent her frustration.
But when she saw that Mo Shuqing wasn’t waiting for her and was getting farther and farther away, Gu Wenyao’s heart tightened. It was as if she was afraid of her prey escaping. She suddenly took two steps forward, audaciously reaching out and wrapping her arms around Mo Shuqing’s waist from behind.
Using the height advantage from her shoes, she rested her chin on Mo Shuqing’s shoulder and called out softly, “Jie-jie.”
Mo Shuqing stumbled forward slightly from the “impact,” her face filled with confusion. She turned to look at her. “Hmm?”
Gu Wenyao saw that Mo Shuqing didn’t refuse her. Her eyes deepened. The arms wrapped around her slender waist slowly tightened. Her chest was pressed so tightly against Mo Shuqing’s back that not even a needle could pass through. Her nose was almost touching Mo Shuqing’s earlobe as she said, “I don’t like Mo Shiyu. I only like my Jie-jie.”
Mo Shuqing smiled. Just like when she was little, she indulged her and slowly walked forward, dragging her with her. “You’re a grown woman now. Why are you fighting with a child for favor?”
“How would I dare to fight with my sister Shiyu?” Gu Wenyao said, resting her chin on Mo Shuqing’s shoulder. She felt Mo Shuqing’s voice vibrate from her chest and travel into her ears, making her feel weak.
Gu Wenyao looked at Mo Shuqing, who was so close.
Her long, pale neck was right in front of her. Her nostrils were filled with the cold plum fragrance that was unique to her. Gu Wenyao lowered her thick, long eyelashes to hide the strange look in her eyes. As she scorned her own depravity, she couldn’t bear to let go.
She just said in a low voice, “I just hope my Jie-jie will have some pity on me for losing my mother when I was little and love me more. Only love me.”
She wanted to be different from Mo Shiyu in Mo Shuqing’s heart.
She wanted to receive an exclusive affection from Mo Shuqing.
The moment Mo Shuqing heard Gu Wenyao say she had lost her mother as a child, her heart immediately softened. She relented and asked, “How do you want me to love you more?”
Gu Wenyao’s fingers wrapped around the silk tassels on Mo Shuqing’s waist, inching her closer. Her breath fanned against Mo Shuqing’s neck. “Sister-in-law, can I sleep with you tonight?”
