- My Ex Who Dumped Me Comes to Hook Me Up Every Day
- Chapter 12 - I'll give you a chance. How about exchanging me for her?
Chong Sheng lay on the ground, seemingly unconscious. Her body was covered in wounds, bl00d slowly seeping out and staining most of her hospital gown crimson.
A woman in her fifties or sixties, wearing a white lab coat, hurried out of the elevator. This was Hu Qingshu, the Vice President of First People’s Hospital.
The sight of the Vice President seemed to calm the agitated crowd.
“The Vice President is here?”
“The Vice President is here!”
The crowd parted to create a narrow path, and Hu Qingshu strode through it.
Reaching the front of the crowd, Hu Qingshu stopped before Liu Zhi and said calmly, “Sir, please calm down and put down the knife. I’m the Vice President of the hospital. You can discuss any concerns with me.”
Liu Zhi glanced at her and pointed at Chong Sheng on the ground. “You’re the Vice President? Then figure out how to wake her up.”
Despite Chong Sheng’s unconsciousness and injuries being his doing, he suddenly wanted her to wake up.
No one knew what he was thinking.
And no one dared to approach him alone to rescue the unconscious woman.
Hu Qingshu didn’t hesitate. “Alright,” she agreed immediately. “I’ll figure something out, but I need to get some equipment here first. That will take some time.”
Liu Zhi cautiously took two steps back, causing Jiang Yuhuai, caught off guard, to stumble.
“Don’t try anything,” he warned, his voice laced with menace. “I don’t have much time.”
Hu Qingshu seemed unfazed, her expression remaining calm and composed, without a trace of panic.
“Don’t worry,” she said gently. “I’ll keep my word. But… may I ask what’s between you and this doctor?”
Liu Zhi tightened his grip, the knife tip pressing deeper into the skin.
Blocked from seeing what was happening behind her, Jiang Yuhuai only felt the sudden, unexpected force of the knife.
Mistaking it for the blade about to pierce her flesh, her body instinctively went on alert. Her muscles and skin instantly tensed, bracing for impact.
In that moment between life and death, Jiang Yuhuai subconsciously glanced toward Jin Zhou.
Jin Zhou, sensing her gaze, looked up and met Jiang Yuhuai’s eyes, filled with a sense of farewell.
Her heart clenched, and she nearly lunged forward without thinking.
But Liu Zhi, his eyes narrowed, glanced at Jiang Yuhuai and leisurely revealed the knife hidden behind her back.
It turned out he was using the back of the knife, not the blade.
Liu Zhi seemed highly pleased with Jiang Yuhuai’s reaction. He surveyed the crowd, savoring the varied expressions on their faces, before slowly answering Hu Qingshu’s question. “Celebrating a holiday? Not really.”
Hu Qingshu wouldn’t let any opportunity to rescue Jiang Yuhuai slip by. She probed, “In that case, could you release her first? We’ll meet any other demands you have.”
At that moment, Liu Zhi’s already volatile mood shifted abruptly. His eyes narrowed, and he suddenly became agitated. “Don’t even think about it! I know you’re just trying to get her out of here so you can all gang up on me later. Don’t think I’m stupid.”
Hu Qingshu tried to calm him down. “Sir, please don’t get worked up… You’re still so young. I just can’t bear to see you ruin your promising future by doing something foolish.”
Liu Zhi’s gaze turned icy, and a manic grin twisted his lips. “Of course I know I have a fucking bright future ahead of me. But today, I don’t want any of that. I just want to see if this woman still dares to mention divorce to me.”
When Jin Zhou arrived, this was the scene that greeted her.
Liu Zhi gripped the small knife tightly, refusing to release the doctor in front of him or allow emergency personnel to approach the patient on the ground.
Despite being held hostage with a cold blade pressed against her, Jiang Yuhuai’s expression remained calm.
Only when she saw Jin Zhou did she visibly freeze.
Her lips trembled slightly, as if she were about to speak.
But in the end, she lowered her gaze and said nothing.
Having witnessed every nuance of her expression, Jin Zhou understood exactly what Jiang Yuhuai was thinking.
The situation was too dangerous; she didn’t want him to get involved.
But the more Jiang Yuhuai acted this way, the more Jin Zhou felt irritated.
After all, caring about someone’s safety always requires a basis, doesn’t it?
A former girlfriend he hadn’t seen in six years? A stranger who knew nothing about him?
Or just a “friend” who had once shared a bed, exploring pleasure together?
None of these relationships justified Jiang Yuhuai’s concern for his safety.
Jin Zhou curled his lips into a self-mocking smile.
Jiang Yuhuai probably saw him as just another stray cat or dog on the street.
When she felt like it, she’d call him over and toss him a sausage.
When she didn’t, she’d wave him away with cold, merciless taunts.
But she wasn’t a cat or a dog, easily bought off with a sausage.
Nor did she need Jiang Yuhuai’s condescending concern.
Sweat beaded on Hu Qingshu’s forehead. The situation had escalated suddenly, and the police hadn’t arrived yet. If handled poorly, two innocent lives would be lost.
She glanced at Jiang Yuhuai’s face. This was the youngest Chief Physician in the hospital, and remarkably, a woman.
Her academic credentials were impeccable, her clinical experience extensive, and her work ethic beyond reproach. Most importantly, she possessed extraordinary talent.
Jiang Yuhuai was the only person under thirty to have made significant contributions to the field of malignant tumor research.
In the end, Hu Qingshu’s admiration for talent outweighed her fear of death.
She proposed, “Sir, the person you’re holding is just an ordinary young doctor with little influence. I’m the Vice President of the hospital. Let me take her place. Would that be acceptable?”
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd.
“President! No!”
“It’s too dangerous, President!”
Hu Qingshu wore glasses, her face lined with wrinkles, her eyebrows and eyes naturally drooping, giving her a kind and gentle appearance.
The Vice President was rather petite, standing only about 1.6 meters tall, resembling one of those elderly women you often see strolling through the park.
Yet, as she stood there, her posture ramrod straight, her entire presence radiated a towering grandeur, almost indistinguishable from that of a giant.
“You?” Liu Zhi sized up the Vice President, whose hair was already streaked with gray.
He had no interest in someone who clearly didn’t have much time left.
“I don’t want you. I want her.”
Hu Qingshu froze, clearly taken aback by the rejection. She frowned and asked, “Why?”
Liu Zhi glanced at the unconscious figure on the ground, a playful smirk curling his lips. “This doctor is connected to Chong Sheng. I can’t stand her.”
At these words, Jin Zhou’s expression shifted subtly.
She realized her suspicions were correct: the kidnapper was indeed targeting Jiang Yuhuai out of spite toward Chong Sheng.
If he had demands, the situation would be easier to resolve. But dealing with emotional decisions rooted in hatred and misplaced anger left her with no clear strategy.
Any misstep could jeopardize the hostage’s safety.
However, there was still a way. To save someone the kidnapper hated, the best method was to offer someone they hated even more in exchange.
Just then, a commotion erupted in the distance.
“The police are at the entrance! They’re coming!”
Liu Zhi’s expression instantly changed.
“You called the police? Damn it.”
He pressed the knife forward again, this time with the blade truly facing Jiang Yuhuai’s abdomen.
As he increased the pressure, the tip of the knife easily pierced her skin.
Jiang Yuhuai’s skin was already pale and delicate. Now, where the blade had cut, tiny crimson droplets of bl00d quickly seeped out.
Like plum blossoms blooming on snow, the sight instantly drew Jin Zhou’s gaze.
Her heart lurched, and reason vanished from her mind.
Jin Zhou stepped forward, her face grim. “Liu Zhi,” she said.
Liu Zhi froze, his eyes darting around before finally settling lightly on the woman who had suddenly emerged from the crowd.
He looked puzzled. “How do you know my name?”
The composure on Jiang Yuhuai’s face shattered completely. Suppressing the groan of pain that threatened to escape her lips, she stared directly at Jin Zhou and shook her head.
Jin Zhou didn’t look at Jiang Yuhuai, nor did she glance at the bloody tip of Liu Zhi’s knife.
She lowered her gaze and said coldly, “I not only know your name, but I also know Liu Yang and Yang Xiya.
“Liu Yang is five years old and attends Jiaxing Road Hope Primary School. Yang Xiya is unemployed and lives in Fuhua Community on Jiaxing Road.”
Upon hearing this, Liu Zhi’s demeanor instantly shifted.
His earlier hysterical frenzy vanished, replaced by narrowed eyes. “Who are you? How do you know all this?”
Jin Zhou met his gaze, her eyes brimming with undisguised mockery. “I’m Jin Zhou, the lawyer representing Miss Chong Sheng in her divorce case. I’m also—the one who shattered your relationship.”
As expected, the moment he heard the words “representing lawyer,” Liu Zhi’s lips twisted downward slightly, and his eyes darkened with a sinister intensity.
“You?”
“Yes, it’s me.”
Liu Zhi’s voice rasped, “Why did you have to meddle in this?”
“I’m a lawyer. Accepting cases is my job.”
Jin Zhou’s lips curved into a smile, but her words were merciless.
“Even if she didn’t pay me, I would still take this case. Adultery, illegitimate children, asset transfers, and vicious domestic violence—men like you don’t deserve wives.”
Liu Zhi’s face flushed crimson, his breathing heavy and ragged. Veins bulged on his neck, and his eyes burned with fury.
“Do you want to die?”
“No.”
Jin Zhou met his gaze, her eyes gleaming with steely confidence. “The police are already on their way. As a lawyer, I know better than you: if you dare kill three people at once, you won’t stand a chance of survival.”
“But if you’re willing to abandon your mistress and five-year-old son to take us all down with you, I won’t hold it against you.”
The mention of his son and mistress brought a flicker of change to Liu Zhi’s eyes.
So, he’s not entirely without attachments to this world.
Jin Zhou lowered her gaze. “I’ll give you a chance: trade me for her. What do you say?”
