- My Ex Who Dumped Me Comes to Hook Me Up Every Day
- Chapter 29 - First her lips, then her neck—
Jiang Yuhuai remained silent.
Her answer came with a click.
She unbuckled her seatbelt.
It seemed she had unfastened more than just the seatbelt clasp.
She had also opened the floodgates of her reason.
Jin Zhou lowered her gaze and reclined the seat.
In the darkness, only blurred silhouettes were visible.
Yet this only made the rustling sounds of clothes being shed all the more tantalizing.
Then, Jiang Yuhuai finally moved closer.
First her lips, then her neck—
Gentle, lingering kisses roamed across her skin, leaving trails of pale pink roses in their wake.
She lightly lifted Jin Zhou’s shirt, her cool fingertips tracing delicate patterns across her skin with reverent precision, like an artist capturing beauty with utmost devotion.
Unlike six years ago, Jiang Yuhuai had matured considerably.
She now understood how to subtly yet completely dominate the person in her grasp with seemingly effortless strokes.
Jin Zhou closed her eyes, abandoning all thought.
She surrendered to this secret, unfamiliar sensation.
Their breaths and soft moans mingled within the small car, rising and falling with the pattering rain, until finally, at some moment, they settled into stillness.
The scent of disinfectant mingled with the aquatic fragrance of her perfume, adding an unexpected sweetness to the air.
The previously tense atmosphere had noticeably eased.
Jin Zhou nestled against Jiang Yuhuai’s neck, lazily waiting for her to clean up the mess. She let her mind drift into a blank state.
After an indeterminate amount of time, a vibration startled them.
Jiang Yuhuai’s body stiffened. She hesitated, raising her hand but ultimately making no move to answer.
Jin Zhou looked up, her voice hoarse. “Answer the call.”
Jiang Yuhuai answered the phone.
“Director Jiang, the patient in bed 16 is in critical condition. We need to perform emergency surgery within the next half-hour.”
Jiang Yuhuai sat up straight, straightening her clothes as she spoke. “Where’s Lu Jue? Isn’t she on duty?”
The voice on the other end was breathless, likely from running. “The patient in bed 10 is failing. Dr. Lu is trying to resuscitate them, but we’re short-staffed.”
Jin Zhou heard Jiang Yuhuai calmly reply, “Understood. I’ll be there as soon as possible.”
After hanging up, Jiang Yuhuai returned to her original position.
Her previously disheveled, half-open clothes were now mostly buttoned up, ready for her departure.
Yet the look in her eyes carried hesitation, as if she felt a pang of guilt.
After all, this was supposed to be a time for tenderness.
Even if they didn’t have much intimate conversation to share.
As expected, Jiang Yuhuai paused for a few seconds before finally saying firmly, “Zhouzhou, I’m sorry, I have to go now.”
Jin Zhou didn’t look at her, simply adjusting the seat back and straightening her clothes.
“How do you plan to get there in such a short time?”
Jiang Yuhuai froze, seemingly surprised by her concern. She swallowed the words “I’ll take a taxi” that were already on her tongue.
“I haven’t decided yet… Maybe I’ll ride my bike?”
“Your bike?”
Jin Zhou turned on the car’s interior light and glanced at her. “I’ll drive you.”
“Zhouzhou, thank you.” Jiang Yuhuai looked at her with gentle eyes.
Jin Zhou remained silent.
In truth, C City’s nighttime traffic was still quite active. While not as convenient as during the day, it certainly wasn’t as dire as Jiang Yuhuai had made it sound. There were plenty of ways to reach the hospital besides cycling.
But since it was a matter of saving someone’s life, Jin Zhou decided not to argue.
An unspoken understanding settled between them, leaving only the roar of the engine in the air.
Through the torrential rain that blurred the road ahead, the dark red taillights of the Audi A6 Sportback sped toward the hospital.
Jiang Yuhuai emerged from the operating room, a hint of fatigue in her eyes.
An elderly woman stood up from the nearby bench. “Director Jiang! I’m Liu Chunmei’s mother. How is my daughter?”
Liu Chunmei’s mother, He Yanfang, was a simple, unadorned farmer. She still wore her mud-stained jacket.
Jiang Yuhuai replied gently, “The patient’s vital signs have stabilized. There’s no need to worry.”
Clearly unfamiliar with such situations, He Yanfang looked somewhat flustered. “Is there anything I should do? Should I make her some soup?”
Jiang Yuhuai patiently explained, “She can’t eat for the next two days. If her recovery progresses well, you can prepare some light, easily digestible liquid foods then.”
He Yanfang nodded repeatedly. “Alright, alright. Thank you, Doctor.”
Jiang Yuhuai added, “There will be routine postoperative tests tomorrow morning, and settling the bills will take some time. If possible, it would be best to have someone else come to help.”
He Yanfang looked troubled. “We don’t know anyone here. And I’m divorced…”
A mother and daughter relying on each other—a common enough situation.
Jiang Yuhuai didn’t continue the conversation.
She glanced at her watch. It was already four in the morning.
“Have you eaten?”
He Yanfang’s hometown was Laonian, a remote township in Z City, over a thousand kilometers away.
Liu Chunmei’s condition had deteriorated suddenly, and He Yanfang had only received the hospital’s call yesterday.
She had rushed here by train without stopping, arriving at one in the morning.
As soon as she reached the hospital, she signed the surgical consent form, and Liu Chunmei was wheeled into the operating room.
Naturally, she hadn’t been able to eat anything.
Surprised by the doctor’s question, He Yanfang hesitated. “I haven’t had a chance.”
Just then, Xiao Liu, the on-duty nurse, walked by.
“Director Jiang, the anesthesiology department needs the patient’s records.”
“I’ll take them over right away.”
After a pause, Jiang Yuhuai added, “Could you grab the bread from my desk and give it to this auntie?”
Xiao Liu nodded. “Of course.”
Liu Chunmei quickly waved her hand. “Dr. Jiang, you’ve already done so much for us. I can’t possibly accept your food.”
Jiang Yuhuai smiled. “Please take it. You need to take care of your daughter these next few days. Neglecting your own health would be counterproductive.”
Liu Chunmei’s eyes reddened slightly. “This…”
Jiang Yuhuai nodded slightly. “I’ll be leaving now. Please get some rest, and call me if you need anything.”
By the time she finished her tasks, it was already past five in the morning.
With only a few hours until dawn, Jiang Yuhuai decided not to go home.
She went to the break room, planning to make do for the night.
But for someone with a light sleep, falling asleep in a place where people were constantly moving around was nearly impossible.
No matter how long she lay there, Jiang Yuhuai couldn’t shake off her wakefulness.
Her thoughts swirled chaotically, mostly revolving around the person she longed for.
Is Jin Zhou sleeping well?
Is she still angry?
As time passed, her mind only grew clearer.
Jiang Yuhuai opened her eyes. The screen showed it was half past seven.
She opened WeChat.
Jin Zhou’s profile was pinned at the top.
This was her personal account, and she was very active on it.
Yesterday’s profile picture had been a cute kitten; today, it had changed to a snarling puppy.
At this hour, Jin Zhou should already be awake.
Jiang Yuhuai tentatively sent a message.
Unsurprisingly, a red exclamation mark appeared.
Message sent, but rejected by the recipient.
Knock, knock, knock!
A series of knocks echoed through the office. Unlike her cautious and polite assistant, these carried Boss Su’s signature flamboyant flair.
“Come in,” Jin Zhou called out.
The door swung open, and Boss Su strode in with a whirlwind of energy.
“Jin Zhou!” Boss Su’s voice carried an unusual note of reproach.
Jin Zhou had already anticipated the visitor’s purpose. She continued working at her desk, casually asking, “What’s wrong?”
Su Yun’s narrow eyes narrowed slightly.
“Have you heard the rumors? People are saying that one of our senior lawyers and the young, promising Chief Physician from the hospital next door are at odds. They argue every time they meet. Have you heard about it?”
Jin Zhou didn’t look up. “I have.”
She had indeed heard about it.
The senior lawyer was named Jin, and the Chief Physician was named Jiang.
In other words, Jin Zhou and Jiang Yuhuai.
After all, Jiang Yuhuai had embarrassed her during their first meeting.
Their subsequent argument during the interview had been witnessed firsthand.
It was no wonder rumors of their strained relationship were circulating.
Su Yun leaned forward, bracing her hands on the desk, and glared at the seemingly innocent instigator. “What did I tell you? To set an example of good friendship! How have you been doing that?”
Jin Zhou finally looked up. “I’m not the one starting trouble.”
This was the truth. From beginning to end, it was Jiang Yuhuai who had been provoking her.
Hearing this, Su Yun gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief.
“Dr. Jiang seems so kind and polite to everyone,” she exclaimed. “Why would she pick a fight with you specifically?”
Jin Zhou calmly shook her head.
“I don’t know.”
“You…”
Su Yun choked on her words, grabbing a bottle of mineral water and gulping it down, but it did little to calm her.
She muttered, “Our law firm’s reputation for professionalism is ruined… If this gets out, who would dare come here for exchanges or training?”
“From now on, Su Yun will never win another provincial or municipal award!”
As her rant grew increasingly dramatic, Jin Zhou looked up.
Su Yun was sprawled on the sofa, her face twisted with resentment, making her look decades older.
Jin Zhou tried to reassure her, “You’re overreacting. They won’t spread this around.”
Su Yun glared at her. “What good does it do if they don’t spread it? What about Dr. Jiang? You’ve already offended her!”
Jin Zhou lowered her gaze, fragmented memories of the previous night slowly surfacing in her mind.
The Jiang Yuhuai Su Yun described was as incompatible with her as fire and water.
And that was the truth.
But only Jin Zhou knew the truth.
During the day, it was Su Yun who had argued with Jin Zhou in the office for not washing her hands after shaking hands.
At night, it was Su Yun who had clung to Jin Zhou’s hand, ravaging her body with reckless abandon.
Jin Zhou paused before replying, “She wouldn’t either.”
“Wouldn’t? How could she not? I heard you two got into a physical fight in the office that day…”
Su Yun accused Jin Zhou of her ‘crimes,’ but halfway through her tirade, she suddenly realized something was off.
“Wait a minute, how are you so sure?”
Jin Zhou shifted her gaze back to the documents on her desk, skimming through them rapidly. “It’s nothing.”
Her evasiveness was obvious, clearly hiding something.
Su Yun frowned. “Don’t tell me… you two have been secretly seeing each other all along?”
Jin Zhou remained silent.
Su Yun narrowed her eyes, studying Jin Zhou’s expression before getting up and pacing around the office.
“First contact… half a month ago. Your bar encounter was also half a month ago.”
As Su Yun mentally replayed the events of that night, a sudden image flashed through her mind, freezing her in place.
“Wait—”
“Why do I feel like that elegant beauty’s face looks a bit like Dr. Jiang’s?”
