My Female Python Roommate Always Wants To Eat Me. - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
The moment Lu Qimin sat down, Bai Fuxue regretted her suggestion to distract herself. As Lu Qimin’s hips touched her legs, the area of contact between their bodies was greater than before. She could clearly feel the weight of Lu Qimin pressing down, causing her skirt fabric to indent and cling even closer to her thighs. With the swaying of the train car, she deeply experienced the softness and surprising elasticity of Lu Qimin’s body. The woman’s body scent, a fresh lemon fragrance, also wafted into her nose, its presence overwhelmingly strong.
The hand on her waist felt like a powerful weapon. The moment it touched her, a wave of heat surged through. Lu Qimin, whose body temperature was usually lower than average, was causing Bai Fuxue’s temperature to soar.
Trapped in her embrace, Bai Fuxue dared not move her waist, afraid that any shift would cause Lu Qimin’s palm to follow and press closer. She subtly glanced down, seeing the fair, slender fingers wrapped around her waist, visible through her light coffee-colored crew-neck shirt. A halo of light passed through, making the fingertips appear jade-white and translucent. Against the pure black reflection of the train window passing through the tunnel, they looked strikingly beautiful.
She stared at the section of fingers, and a flush slowly crept into her ears, their temperature nearly catching up to Lu Qimin’s fingertips. Who would have thought that the scene she had just imagined would soon materialize? Lu Qimin’s hand was no longer holding a boring handrail but was instead wrapped around her waist. Just a proper, non-intrusive hold was enough to make her heart beat chaotically.
Her ears were filled with the sound of her own heartbeat, as if it were broken, unable to hear anything else. The imagined image of Lu Qimin gripping a shirt collar and tie was beautiful and full of tension, leading one to even more intense thoughts. But when she became the other protagonist in that scenario, Bai Fuxue couldn’t continue to imagine with such composure. It was too embarrassing.
Her mind went completely blank. She secretly took long, deep breaths at intervals and turned her head to look at the crowd in the train car, though her focus wasn’t on them. She didn’t say a single word to Lu Qimin.
For the entire journey, Bai Fuxue felt as if she were floating in the clouds, tumbling and bumping in a soft, cottony layer, her thoughts in utter disarray. Lu Qimin, on the other hand, seemed to sense her tension and enjoyed maintaining her seated position without getting up. She thoughtfully handed Bai Fuxue a Bluetooth earbud, inviting her to explore her music library.
Listening to the beautiful songs through the earbud, Bai Fuxue’s self-conscious urge to hide her face finally subsided slightly as she became engrossed in the lyrics. When a song with a light, cheerful melody came on, her body unconsciously swayed a little, causing Lu Qimin to sway and move closer to her. Lu Qimin’s fingers tightened, gripping her slender waist.
Bai Fuxue was unaware of any of this. From an angle she couldn’t see, Lu Qimin softened the sharp lines of her eyebrows and secretly, using the frequency of the swaying, leaned forward to sniff Bai Fuxue’s neck, smiling to herself many times.
Then, the music changed randomly, and Bai Fuxue heard the same song Lu Qimin had once sung at the training camp.
“The entire universe hides in your eyes / The moon effortlessly sways the tide.”
She murmured, her first words since changing positions, “What’s the name of this song?”
Lu Qimin’s fingertips moved slightly, rubbing against the hem of her shirt, careful to avoid touching her skin and causing tension. She whispered intimately, as if conveying her love.
Mischievously, she called out, “Bai Fuxue.”
Seeing her flustered eyes, she then slowly revealed the correct answer. “The name is—’Hidden in Your Name’.”
“Ah,” “Oh—”
When Lu Qimin spoke the name with such gravity, Bai Fuxue felt a sudden jolt, and it took her a moment to realize the song’s title. With a burning face, she memorized it, resolving to search for it on a music platform and add it to her playlist once she got back.
With that start, the rest of the conversation flowed naturally. The two of them shared an earbud, sitting politely close to each other. To outsiders, they appeared to be whispering intimately.
When the train arrived at the station, Lu Qimin turned off the music. The song in the earbud instantly stopped. Bai Fuxue’s attention followed her. The train announcement was also playing, “This station is Shanhai City Railway Station.” It dawned on her that they had arrived.
Lu Qimin stood up first, reaching down to smooth the wrinkles left on Bai Fuxue’s skirt from sitting for so long. She patiently straightened it until the creases were barely visible, then released her hold and stood steadily beside her. She silently held out her palm, ready to take Bai Fuxue’s hand.
Bai Fuxue looked away, not taking it. She felt she could manage on her own. Confidently, she stood up, forgetting that her legs had been supporting Lu Qimin’s weight the entire ride. The moment she lifted her leg, her knees felt weak. Losing her balance, she stumbled forward into Lu Qimin’s embrace and was completely caught.
Lu Qimin’s hands naturally wrapped around her waist, enveloping her from back to front. The feeling of security was immense. A good-natured, doting laugh came from above her head.
“You’re completely helpless, A-Xue.” “Let me hold your hand for the rest of the way.”
Bai Fuxue tilted her delicate nose up, a little indignant, but she obediently took Lu Qimin’s hand. She insisted, “My legs are just numb.”
“Mhm, to keep you from falling, I’ll lead the way.” Lu Qimin’s voice was gentle, not contradicting her at all. But Bai Fuxue knew for sure that she was secretly laughing to herself!
With her lips pursed, she walked with an odd gait, being led by Lu Qimin as they hobbled out of the subway station and to the train station’s exit. Leaning against Lu Qimin, she waited for the tingling sensation in her legs to subside. She took out her phone and double-checked Yang Xinyi’s train information. Her train was still more than ten minutes away from arriving.
Suddenly, Lu Qimin asked her how to write her friend’s name. Bai Fuxue typed it out on her phone screen, unsure of what Lu Qimin was going to do. Lu Qimin nodded in understanding. Then, to Bai Fuxue’s astonishment, she pulled a hard white piece of paper and a marker from her backpack. With a flourish, she wrote out Yang Xinyi’s name.
She turned to Bai Fuxue and said, “Your friend will see us the moment she exits the station.”
Seeing her write the final stroke and then offer a serious explanation for her actions, Bai Fuxue’s shocked expression turned to one of even greater horror. She sighed and covered her face. “She’d see me even without the sign.”
“Doing something so grand might make her hide and not want to see me.” “No, it’s not ‘might,’ it’s ‘definitely’!” “Please put the sign away. My friend doesn’t like attracting attention.”
With a little time to spare, Bai Fuxue quickly snatched the sign from Lu Qimin’s hand and, with a quick pull of the backpack zipper, shoved the sign inside. The entire process was as fast as lightning. After she finished, she let out a long sigh of relief, feeling relieved.
This was the first time Lu Qimin had seen Bai Fuxue show such initiative, taking control of their actions. She was, without exaggeration, captivated by this other side of Bai Fuxue. She now understood that the little rabbit’s friend had a similar personality—perhaps… even shyer than the little rabbit herself.
