My Female Python Roommate Always Wants To Eat Me. - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Within a quarter of an hour, Bai Fuxue’s phone buzzed with a message from her friend, who said she had gotten off the train and was heading for the exit. Bai Fuxue replied that she would be waiting for her there. After typing the message, she put her phone away and focused intently on the bustling crowd at the exit. She poked Lu Qimin’s arm and said, “Yang Xinyi will be here soon. Please make your expression a little softer, or she’ll think you don’t like her.” Remembering the anxiety her friend had revealed in her messages, she added this last piece of advice.
Lu Qimin’s face remained impassive. She asked in a cold voice, “What do you mean by ‘softer’?” She unconsciously wore a very intimidatingly cold expression, as if genuinely confused about how to be a gentle person. The moment Bai Fuxue saw her face, she was taken aback by the familiar coldness. Feeling helpless, she thought for a moment, then tentatively reached out two fingers, touching the corners of Lu Qimin’s lips and pushing them up to form the warm and charming smile she so often saw. Satisfied, she cautiously suggested, “Just act the way you do with me.”
“Is that right?” Hearing this, Lu Qimin’s smile came from the heart without any help from Bai Fuxue’s fingers. She was clearly pleased. A moment later, she reined in her bright expression and said with a touch of arrogance, “I’ll try my best, but no promises. She’s not you, after all.” That was enough for Bai Fuxue. She didn’t want to ask for too much.
As her legs regained their normal sensation and she could move freely, she slightly increased the distance between herself and Lu Qimin, no longer leaning on her. Lu Qimin gave her a sidelong glance but said nothing.
Before long, a tall girl emerged from the crowd. She was on par with many of the boys in height, with light chestnut-brown shoulder-length hair and an elegant, cool, and beautiful face, like a hibiscus flower. She was carrying a white travel bag and looking around with a hint of nervousness. Bai Fuxue saw her first and immediately waved her arm, raising her voice, “Qinqin, over here!” Hearing the familiar voice, Yang Xinyi instantly turned and locked onto her friend. As if she had found her anchor, she hurried over like a swallow returning to its nest and threw herself into Bai Fuxue’s arms. Bai Fuxue naturally opened her arms and embraced her.
With Yang Xinyi completely obscuring her, Bai Fuxue patted her back with some effort, praising and coaxing her, “Qinqin, you’re amazing. You took an overnight sleeper train and found me all by yourself.” “I was so nervous on the way. The only thing that kept me going was the thought of seeing you soon.”
Yang Xinyi clung to her like a giant koala bear. Her cool demeanor had vanished, leaving only a soft, sweet dependence. They whispered to each other for a while before Yang Xinyi remembered that Bai Fuxue had mentioned a roommate would be with her. She hadn’t looked at anyone else when she exited the station… This meant her and Bai Fuxue’s actions had been witnessed by the roommate.
Yang Xinyi’s heart instantly leaped. She pulled away from Bai Fuxue’s embrace and turned her head very slowly, searching for the roommate. In her peripheral vision, a clothing hem, different from Bai Fuxue’s, drew closer. Then, the owner of the clothing put a hand on Bai Fuxue’s arm, holding her in an intimate way. It seemed Xuexue had made a close friend right after starting university.
The stranger’s voice was on the colder side, as if soaked in snow, but her familiar and friendly tone still sent a shiver down her spine. “A-Xue, aren’t you going to introduce us?”
“Oh, I almost forgot.” Bai Fuxue came to her senses and introduced them by name. With a proper reason to do so, Yang Xinyi finally looked up at Lu Qimin. The moment her eyes met Lu Qimin’s features, Yang Xinyi’s pupils contracted. She felt an incredibly terrifying aura. The person in front of her was powerful, dangerous, and extremely threatening. She didn’t even have the presence of mind to analyze whether Lu Qimin’s cold expression was habitual or if she was pretty. In that instant, she instinctively wanted to raise her defenses like a porcupine to ward off the source of danger.
She didn’t hesitate. With a “whoosh,” she jumped to Bai Fuxue’s other side, took her other arm, and walked pressed against her. She cautiously raised a soft hand, opened her palm, and waved her fingers toward Lu Qimin, saying, “H-hello.” Her voice was so nervous it came out in a stutter.
Fearing that Lu Qimin would get the wrong impression of Yang Xinyi, Bai Fuxue quickly smoothed things over. “Qinqin isn’t familiar with you yet, so she’s a little nervous. She won’t be like this once she gets to know you.”
Lu Qimin gave a noncommittal nod, saying nothing more. However, her subtle, sharp glances were frequently directed at Yang Xinyi, who was practically plastered to Bai Fuxue, her teeth gritted in jealousy. Why did Yang Xinyi get to be so close to Bai Fuxue? Lu Qimin had never been that intimate with her! And A-Xue wasn’t even resisting Yang Xinyi’s clinginess. She could barely contain the fierce jealousy raging in her chest.
Each time Lu Qimin’s gaze swept over her, Yang Xinyi’s fear and alarm only grew. She was practically hugging the ground and pressing against Bai Fuxue’s side, drawing a sense of security from her. She spoke in a hushed whisper, “Your roommate is so scary. Aren’t you afraid being around her?”
Bai Fuxue leaned her head closer, slightly avoiding Lu Qimin’s gaze, and whispered back in an even softer voice, “I was scared at first, but then I realized she wouldn’t be mean to me, so I could get along with her just fine.” “But her eyes are so fierce. It looks like she doesn’t like me…” Yang Xinyi was skeptical and found it hard to believe that Lu Qimin had a soft side.
Since it was still early, Bai Fuxue first took them to get breakfast. She also bought some for her other roommates and then they all headed back to the dorm so Yang Xinyi could drop off her luggage. On the subway ride back to school, Lu Qimin could no longer enjoy the quiet and romantic atmosphere she had on the way there. Since Yang Xinyi, as a childhood friend, had firmly taken the seat next to Bai Fuxue, Lu Qimin could only sit on the other side. She felt as if she had spilled an entire bottle of vinegar, radiating with jealousy.
