My Female Python Roommate Always Wants To Eat Me. - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Fortunately, they didn’t linger long in the dorm. When Bai Fuxue arrived at the training ground, there were still some people from her class who hadn’t arrived yet.
Qi Zian was standing next to the instructor. He saw her from a distance and waved, exuding the energetic enthusiasm of a young man with every movement.
His actions were so ostentatious that the gazes of many people in the crowd were cast over to them.
Bai Fuxue avoided his gaze and quickened her pace.
She had been “educated” all the way back yesterday by An Xin and Song Jiajia, so she knew that some couples get together after being teased by others. They become a “default couple” in other people’s eyes from the very beginning, but she didn’t want to get involved in such a confusing situation.
Even though she thought Qi Zian was naturally bright and cheerful, she began to be wary of the boundaries between them.
She quickly walked up to him.
She greeted him politely, “Qi Zian.”
Seeing the distance in Bai Fuxue’s behavior, Qi Zian felt a little dejected, but he quickly rekindled his enthusiasm and took on the role of a bridge between Bai Fuxue and the instructor.
“Instructor Xu, this is our class monitor, Bai Fuxue. From now on, you can tell the class monitor about any announcements. I’m in charge of assisting her.” His tone was full of a flattering subservience, as if he treated Bai Fuxue as his direct supervisor. He stood next to Bai Fuxue with a slouched, casual posture, looking like they were very familiar.
Xu Kun nodded in response, acknowledging Bai Fuxue.
But his gaze lingered on both Qi Zian and Bai Fuxue, full of meaning.
He had also been a student, and he easily saw through Qi Zian’s intentions. University was a time for youthful love, and he didn’t judge the way young men and women interacted.
He asked the two of them in a low voice, “Have you notified the students who haven’t arrived yet? If one person is late, the whole class has to run a lap as punishment.”
Team honor was the most important thing during military training.
Xu Kun seemed easy to get along with on the surface, but he wasn’t merciful with students.
Hearing about the penalty lap, Bai Fuxue’s legs felt a little weak. She looked around and saw there were still about five or six people missing.
A lap around the field was 400 meters. Six laps would be 2400 meters.
After finishing the daily training, adding on those six laps would be too much for most freshmen who had spent the entire summer break relaxing.
Fortunately, by communicating within each dorm, all the missing students arrived within the assembly time, and no one was late, averting the tragedy of the penalty lap.
The training on the first day wasn’t too demanding. In the morning, Xu Kun only instructed everyone to practice their military stance.
During the military stance, they couldn’t talk or move around. If they needed to do anything, they had to report it.
Many people were unaccustomed to having to report every little thing and frequently violated the rules. Xu Kun would kick them to the front of the line to practice their military stance in front of everyone and would only let them return to the group once their posture was up to standard.
Bai Fuxue was in the first row and could see everything clearly.
She didn’t want to be singled out, so she strained to suck in her stomach and stand up straight, keeping her arms tight against the seams of her pants, not daring to make any extra movements.
The weather in Shanhai in September was muggy and hot. Unlike the scorching sun in the Guangdong province that shone directly down, it was a more subtle kind of torture.
The training ground for their class had no shade, so there was no way to avoid the sun.
Soon, the hair under Bai Fuxue’s cap was soaked with sweat. Her hair was clumped together and stuck to her forehead and temples, feeling wet and very uncomfortable.
Her face was also red from the sun’s rays. Her skin was fair, so even the slightest irritation was very noticeable.
Fortunately, before she left, Lu Qimin had held her down and applied sunscreen, so there was a protective layer on her face and she didn’t feel the burning pain from the sun.
At this moment, she truly experienced what Lu Qimin meant by the scorching sun…
It was terrifying.
The time spent practicing the military stance felt like an eternity. By the time Bai Fuxue’s vision began to blur and she felt weak, she finally heard Xu Kun announce a break. Even though it was only fifteen minutes, Bai Fuxue felt as if she had heard a heavenly sound.
She immediately stretched her limbs and found a shaded step to sit down and rest. The rest of her classmates also dispersed and sat down nearby, so exhausted that even speaking felt like a loss of life.
Just as she sat down to rest for a moment, someone stood in front of her, their tall figure taking up all the space in her line of sight.
A bottle of iced water was offered to her. The bottle was covered in beads of water from condensation, exuding an irresistible charm on a summer day.
“Bai Fuxue, here.”
Bai Fuxue had been in the sun for half the day, and the water in her body felt like it had been sucked dry by the scorching heat. Her lips were especially parched.
She looked up and saw Qi Zian’s frank and enthusiastic face.
She saw him wink at a few boys behind him and then explain to Bai Fuxue, “I just went to buy some water with my roommates. I accidentally bought an extra bottle, and we can’t drink all of it, so I’ll share it with you.”
He phrased it so smoothly, as if he had genuinely bought too much.
Bai Fuxue pursed her dry lips but didn’t take the bottle.
She also silently glanced at Qi Zian’s roommates and keenly sensed their teasing and “ready to watch a show” expressions.
Besides, there were only four of them. It was a simple count, so how could there be a case of “accidentally buying too much”?
Qi Zian had intentionally bought the water for her.
Bai Fuxue’s alarm bells rang. She felt that the bottle of water was like a hot potato. She couldn’t take it, but it was also hard to refuse.
In other people’s eyes, Qi Zian was just a kind person who bought an extra bottle of water and casually gave it to the class monitor, with whom he would be working closely.
But Bai Fuxue was worried that in Qi Zian’s eyes, accepting this bottle of water would be just the beginning, a signal that she wasn’t averse to him, and an encouragement for more difficult situations to arise in the future.
She just wanted to focus on her studies right now and had no plans to be in a relationship.
She would especially not take the risk of being in a relationship with a human.
If she were to be in a relationship, it would be after graduation, with someone of her own kind, introduced by her elders and family.
Bai Fuxue was suddenly in a difficult spot. She anxiously thought of a polite way to refuse without hurting his feelings. “I… don’t need it,”
She had just started speaking, her nerves on high alert.
A familiar scent enveloped her. A cold strawberry smoothie was placed in her palm. The person she had spent the morning with had miraculously appeared from another class’s formation, right beside her.
Like a divine soldier descending from the heavens to help her solve her problem.
“I was looking for you everywhere. So you were here.”
“You must be so thirsty. Quick, try this smoothie. I had to wait in line at the cafeteria for a long time.”
Bai Fuxue’s distressed expression immediately relaxed. With a ready excuse, she no longer had to think about how to refuse Qi Zian’s water.
The lovely pink color of the strawberry smoothie in her palm was so beautiful. She took a spoonful. The smoothie was dense and delicious, and the sweet and fresh strawberry flavor was so refreshing it cooled her heart.
The heat and exhaustion in her body and mind were all soothed by this one spoonful of smoothie.
It tasted so good that Bai Fuxue wanted to wag her tail.
If she were in her true form right now, her tail would have been wagging with joy long ago.
By the time she finished one spoonful, Lu Qimin had already exchanged several rounds of glances with Qi Zian.
Of course, it was a one-sided defeat based on Lu Qimin’s aura alone.
She had a bad feeling about any guy who got close to Bai Fuxue.
She reached out and naturally placed her arm on Bai Fuxue’s left shoulder, and asked as if she were being nonchalant: “A-Xue, is this your classmate?”
“Mhm, he’s our class’s vice class monitor.”
Bai Fuxue answered casually, then took a few more spoonfuls of the smoothie. It was only after a moment that she realized Lu Qimin had said she would come over to their class’s formation to see if Qi Zian was handsome.
So, was Lu Qimin’s excuse of bringing her a smoothie just a way to come and check out Qi Zian?
Bai Fuxue stopped chewing and secretly glanced at Lu Qimin beside her. She indeed saw that after learning Qi Zian’s identity, Lu Qimin had become more focused, scanning his face and body with a critical eye, as if she were truly judging his appearance.
She couldn’t bear to think about it.
Bai Fuxue quickly and awkwardly averted her eyes, hypnotizing herself into forgetting the matter.
Hearing Bai Fuxue’s answer, Lu Qimin immediately understood that the man trying to give Bai Fuxue water was the same person who had proactively followed her yesterday to ask for her contact information.
Her once casual gaze immediately became disdainful and judgmental.
A moment ago, she just thought Qi Zian was a good-hearted person who looked energetic and was tall.
Now that she knew Qi Zian had a crush on her little rabbit, his attractiveness dropped significantly.
In an instant, Lu Qimin found an endless list of flaws in him.
His posture was bad, he was hunched over, the distance between his eyes was too wide—like a whole galaxy lay between them—his nose wasn’t straight enough, and his mouth opened too wide when he smiled, which was very unpleasant to look at. His skin was too dark…
Qi Zian’s heart felt weak under her sharp gaze. He felt that this girl, who looked beautiful enough to be on a medieval painting, had an extremely noble and cold demeanor. The power in her gaze made it feel like she wanted to pressure him into the ground. He instinctively decided to retreat and didn’t dare to linger any longer.
He felt that Bai Fuxue standing with her was incredibly strange. Why would she be friends with someone with such a different personality?
And he inexplicably felt that this stranger of a girl was targeting him.
He hadn’t done anything, yet he was being disliked by someone.
He couldn’t understand it, and he gave up on the idea of getting close to Bai Fuxue’s friend. He decided to leave and give Bai Fuxue and her friend some space.
Of course, Lu Qimin wouldn’t let Qi Zian leave so easily.
She curved her lips into a smiling expression, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes. It was sinister.
She was clearly smiling, but it made people feel like she would take someone’s life with a blade in the next second.
The words she spoke didn’t hide her sarcasm at all, and they were unbelievably arrogant.
“Thank you, classmate, for taking care of our A-Xue. You even thought of buying her water. But don’t trouble yourself. I will buy water for A-Xue.”
Staring into Lu Qimin’s beautiful double pupils for a long time always made people feel a chill down their spine.
Cold sweat trickled down Qi Zian’s back. He quickly hid the mineral water behind him. The cold bottle was so shocking that his heart felt frozen.
He was absolutely certain that Lu Qimin was indeed targeting him.
He was completely defenseless.
At this moment, he couldn’t even think of a polite remark to say in return.
He could only stammer and follow Lu Qimin’s words: “I understand. I’m relieved that Classmate Bai has a friend to take care of her.”
After saying that, he wisely fled to his roommates, not daring to stay any longer.
