My Heart Beats - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
“I just ate two bowls of noodles…”
What! Why that sentence? At this moment? Xueman was utterly speechless. She truly was a cold and dull person. Xueman moved a short distance away from her, completely disappointed. “Forget it, I’m going home.” She stood up to leave, but Yinchi quickly grabbed her hand. “Crazy person is so petty. I won’t eat them, but I can buy them for you to eat.” Saying that, she took Xueman’s hand and led her down the steps.
“Uncle Wang, a box for me.” “Xiao Chi, you’re here. Alright, extra salad and extra seaweed, right?” Xueman looked at her. “So you come here often.” “That’s right. Uncle Wang’s Takoyaki are the best in all of Guangzhou. Aren’t they, Uncle Wang?” Uncle Wang smiled and packed a box for them. Yinchi paid and put the steaming hot balls into Xueman’s hand. “Here, take them.”
Xueman finally turned her pout into a smile, happily skipping ahead and devouring the best Takoyaki in all of Guangzhou. By the time she finished the sixth ball, they had reached the door to their respective homes. Thinking of the $0.01$ millimeter distance they had just shared, the two looked at each other silently, both blushing again. “Get some sleep. Good night.” Yinchi was the first to break the deadlock. “Mmm. You too.” With that, they each took out their keys, turned their backs to each other, and entered their homes.
Xueman walked in, opened the fridge, and took out a bottle of iced water to drink. In the end, she even rubbed the bottle against her face. What kind of emotion was this encounter with Yinchi? Was it friendship? Clearly not kinship. Then what was it?
Yinchi was thinking the same question as she changed her clothes. That unexpected moment just now seemed to have given her some answers in her heart. The connection between a jerk and a crazy person must be more than simple friendship. She put on a white shirt, slipped on her sandals, and carried her classical guitar to the balcony. Tonight, she seemed to have inspiration for a new melody. She softly hummed:
“Although the world is ever-changing
Use the most sincere heart
To make love simple…
Yes, if those spiritual stirrings and longing couldn’t be called “friendship,” then it must be that thing called “love.” She continued to hum, “That crazy person is me… oh~” As she strummed the guitar here, a tear suddenly slipped past her eye. Did she really have a feeling called “love” for Xueman? She smiled, with tears in her eyes. It turned out that I was the crazy one.
Xueman stood on the balcony drinking water, the light in her room off. She watched Yinchi’s deeply affectionate yet melancholic expression as she played the guitar. The melodious guitar tune had a few new measures added to it.
I can’t guess her heart. If she liked me even a little, she wouldn’t have hesitated just now. She was truly confused by Yinchi. But her own heart was becoming clearer and clearer. In several moments, she had intensely longed for Yinchi’s embrace and a potential kiss. What could this feeling be other than “love”? She just wasn’t willing to believe it, wasn’t willing to admit it. Harmonizing with Yinchi’s music, she also hummed softly:
“I love you
Can’t help but love you, baby
Say you love me too
I love you
Never want to lose you, baby / Lose you…”
What she was humming might not be the lyrics, but her own heart. Looking at the moonlight shining on her face and that clear, simple tear, Xueman hummed the last segment of the melody for the night:
“If you still have some confusion
Please lean in and listen to my heart
Hear me say I love you
Yes I do…”
