My Heart Beats - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
A beautiful sunny winter afternoon. “Jerk, besides Whisky Coffee, can you make something else?” Yinchi’s hand, holding the stemmed glass, paused. “Don’t you only drink that one thing?” That’s because the taste of Whisky Coffee is like longing and waiting. She used to like drinking it because she found that kind of longing enticing, not knowing who she was waiting for. Now Xueman knew who she wanted and who she longed for, so of course, she didn’t want to savor that bitter wait anymore.
“I just want to try your other coffees.”
Yinchi thought for a moment, then turned to the back cabinet to grab a jar of cocoa powder. About seven or eight minutes later, she placed the prepared coffee in front of Xueman. “You’re in a good mood today. Have a mocha.” The combination of chocolate and coffee, sweet with a hint of bitterness—Xueman liked it. “It’s good, very delicious.”
A thin layer of milk foam was on Xueman’s lip, and Yinchi subconsciously kept staring at it, suddenly recalling the moments when she was very close to her. “What are you looking at?” Xueman’s voice pulled her back to reality. Yinchi cleared her throat, grabbed a nearby napkin, and pressed it to Xueman’s mouth. “How old are you? Drinking coffee like a child.”
Xueman wiped her mouth. Just as she was about to say something, Henry’s voice interrupted their solitude. “I knew you’d be here.” He walked over and sat next to Xueman. Yinchi saw the undisguised adoration in his eyes. “The album’s promotion plan has been finalized. We’ll shoot the cover tomorrow.”
Xueman was momentarily stunned. Couldn’t this have been discussed over the phone? He came all the way here. But she was still grateful. To her, Henry was more than just a boss and manager; he was also a confidant. “I understand. Thank you.” Naturally, he lightly put his arm around Xueman. “I will do my best for your first album.”
Xueman’s body instantly stiffened, and she looked at Yinchi with a very awkward expression. Yinchi, from the moment Henry walked in, had adopted an incredibly cold expression, her gaze practically murderous.
“Sir, what would you like to drink?” Henry let go of Xueman and adjusted his glasses. “The same as hers.” “Okay.” Yinchi quickly poured half a cup of black coffee and half a cup of lime juice, mixing them together. “The ultimate version of Neapolitan coffee.”
Henry, unsuspecting, took a large gulp, then immediately spat it back into the cup. “What the hell is this! Are you doing this on purpose?”
Xueman looked at Yinchi’s hostile eyes and almost burst out laughing. This Jerk really does care about Henry’s presence. She’s not so calm after all! But she needed to quickly give her a way out, or they were definitely going to start fighting. Xueman picked up the untouched glass of water in front of her and offered it to him. “Have some water. I don’t think you’re used to coffee, and besides…”
Yinchi got even angrier seeing this scene. She gave him her water! And with a smile! Didn’t she say they were just ordinary friends?!
Henry calmed down a little after drinking the water. He glared at Yinchi then said to Xueman, “I came to ask you out for dinner. I’ve booked a table at the French restaurant. Can I pick you up tonight?”
Xueman looked at Yinchi. After a second of eye contact, Yinchi lowered her head, fiddling with the various sizes of coffee cups, wearing a sour expression. What is wrong with this Jerk now? Why is she giving me the cold shoulder? Did I do something wrong? She initially didn’t want to accept, but this Jerk just deserved to be tormented. Xueman cheerfully said to Henry, “Okay, you can pick me up.”
