My Heart Beats - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Dinner time. Yinchi saw Henry take Xueman downstairs from behind the bar. He actually put his arm around her shoulder to cross the road, and she actually let him put his arm around her shoulder to cross the road. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. Yinchi untied her apron and threw it heavily onto the bar. “I’m clocking out!” The boss looked at her in confusion: “Who upset our Xiao Chi?” “No one. I just feel nauseous today, like throwing up.” With that, she angrily stormed out of the coffee shop.
After eating a completely tasteless dinner, Yinchi went home. The balcony next door was still dark, clearly she hadn’t returned. Yinchi checked the time; it was already nine o’clock. Hmph, you better not come back. Muttering to herself, she went to take a shower.
After showering and blow-drying her hair, she even applied a face mask. It was almost 11 o’clock, and there was still no movement outside the door. This crazy person isn’t seriously not coming back, is she? She desperately wanted to call her but clutched her phone, unable to dial the number. Yinchi sat cross-legged on the sofa, strumming the guitar strings. The quiet room echoed with simple, random chords. Yinchi didn’t know what she was playing, only that her gaze was blank, while her brain was frantically replaying everything that might have happened to the Crazy Person tonight.
Yinchi sighed, trying to calm herself down. If she wasn’t meant to be hers, what was the use of forcing it? She started to laugh at her own abnormal behavior. When did the rational and cool-headed Queen Producer get led astray by a crazy person? She adjusted her posture and flipped through the sheet music on the shelf. The song she hadn’t finished writing—she’d finish it today. She slowly played the melody and softly hummed:
“Forgot how it began
Maybe it was just a feeling for you
Suddenly realizing that I…”
It’s that same old refrain… Yinchi couldn’t sing any further. Her soul ached with every thread of breath. It hurt with every inhale. Yet, you couldn’t stop breathing…
“This is as far as you need to go.” Xueman’s voice. Yinchi was startled. Aiya! She finally decided to come back. She put down the guitar and quickly ran to the door, looking through the peephole.
“Can I come in for a bit?” Henry asked. They were together all evening, and he still wants to come in and sit? “I’m tired and want to get some rest.” That’s more like it. “Okay then. I’ll call you when I get home.” Aiya! Still planning to call? How annoying. After speaking, Henry put his arm around Xueman’s shoulder and leaned his head in. Aiya, aiya, aiya! What’s he doing? A goodbye kiss? Just as Yinchi was about to turn the doorknob, Xueman gently pushed him away. “Drive safely. Good night.” Henry hesitated for a moment, didn’t insist, said nothing, and turned to leave. Yinchi let out a breath. Aiya~~ That scared me to death.
After calming down, she suddenly felt it was quite unladylike to be eavesdropping on them. There was no movement outside the door for a long time. Oh well, unladylike it is, I’ll take one more look. She saw Xueman standing right outside her door, seemingly wanting to ring the bell but hesitating. Hurry up and ring it. After a moment of indecision, Xueman gave up, took out her key, and turned to open her own door. Yinchi disappointedly withdrew her gaze and walked back to the living room in a daze. Maybe she had been overthinking things from the start. The most terrifying thing in life is greed, why be so persistent about her?
Ding-dong The doorbell rang. Just as Yinchi was desperately trying to convince herself, a miracle occurred…
She opened the door, and Xueman was standing there. “Come out and grab a bite with me. I’m starving.” Yinchi leaned against the door and said coldly, “Didn’t you go eat French food? How are you still hungry?” Xueman wanted to tell her that she had been thinking about her all night, and without her, even the most delicious food was inedible. Yinchi saw her silence and assumed she had some hidden trouble. “Let’s go. What do you want to eat?” Xueman immediately smiled and grabbed her hand: “I want Uncle Wang’s Takoyaki.”
They arrived downstairs. Before they even got close, the delicious aroma of Guangzhou’s best Takoyaki was already filling the air. Xueman ran over and breathed into her cupped hands. “Uncle Wang, I’m back. Two boxes, please.” Yinchi arrived right after. “It seems you really didn’t eat. Then what were you doing all night?” “I was supposed to go eat, but seeing him made me lose my appetite. I ended up going to the recording studio. Actually, there was still one song that needed re-recording, and now it’s all done. It was a meaningful night.” Hmph, meaningful for you. You had me worried sick for ages.
They sat on the roadside stone steps again, eating Takoyaki. The cold wind was blowing in Guangzhou in early spring, but Xueman didn’t feel cold at all. Looking at Yinchi’s profile, she felt very happy. Being with the person you like, even squatting on the roadside eating the cheapest snack, is pure bliss.
“Hey, let’s go when you finish, you crazy person. Don’t catch a cold.” Xueman didn’t want to say goodnight to her so soon. She said, “Why the rush? I’m not cold.” Yinchi looked at her red nose and the occasional sniffle. “You say you’re not cold.” Saying that, she felt her hand. Aiya, her paws were freezing. Yinchi glanced at her, hesitated for a second, and immediately took her hand and put it into her own pocket.
Xueman had no time to react but was forcefully pulled forward like this. She was so domineering, but her palm was so warm, completely unlike this arrogant and self-important jerk. Xueman gradually felt a rush of heat to her face, and the wind blowing towards them didn’t feel cold anymore. In that small space, her fingers slowly and involuntarily intertwined with hers. Yinchi felt her palm gradually warming and the increasing grip of her hand, and a charming smile played on her lips. Of course, this was when Xueman couldn’t see it.
