My Heart Beats - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
At night, Xueman washed the dishes, tidied up the room, and went to bed early. Before sleeping, she checked her phone. Sigh, still no news from Henry. She turned off the light and closed her eyes. The image of Yinchi stubbornly holding on at the dinner table that evening flashed through her mind, and she couldn’t help but smile. Hmph, consider it a lesson for you, let’s see if you’ll be so arrogant next time.
After an unknown period of time, Xueman woke up in the dark of night. Instead of saying she woke up herself, it was more like she was woken up by noise. The city at one in the morning should have been coldly quiet. But she kept hearing the sound of a toilet flushing in some house now and then. Ah! There it goes again! Who is flushing the toilet so late? She couldn’t help but pull the blanket up over her ears. Suddenly, she sat up, as if something had occurred to her.
This lunatic is truly crazy, I think she did it on purpose. It was the fifth time she had dragged herself from the bathroom to the bedroom and collapsed onto the bed. Yinchi, covering her stomach, couldn’t cover her stomach, and covering her stomach, couldn’t cover her gut, feeling alternately hot and cold all over. How was she going to go to work tomorrow? Just as she was feeling frustrated, someone rang the doorbell. Damn it, so late, who could it be! She struggled to get up and walked to open the door.
“Are you… alright?” It was Xueman. Yinchi glanced at her, “Couldn’t be better.” Just as she was about to close the door, Xueman put a hand on it. “I’m sorry, if it’s your first time eating something that spicy, your stomach won’t be able to handle it, and you’ll get a fever.” “I said I’m fine.” “I’ll take you to see a doctor.” Yinchi impatiently waved her hand away, but Xueman grabbed it immediately. Ah? So hot! “Ouch~~” Yinchi cried out in pain and rushed into the bathroom without even closing the door.
Xueman took the opportunity to close the door and tiptoed into Yinchi’s apartment. Sigh, it was all her fault for causing her to be so miserable. When Yinchi came out of the bathroom, her face was deathly pale. Xueman grabbed the clothes hanging on the rack and draped them over her: “Come on, let’s go. To the doctor.”
They arrived at the hospital and checked into the emergency room. There were quite a few people seeing the doctor late at night. After a busy period and finishing the lab work, they waited in the hallway for her name to be called. Yinchi had a bad headache, leaning her forehead on one hand, half-asleep. Xueman fiddled with her fingers, not knowing what to say. “Yinchi.” The doctor called her name. Xueman helped her up, and they walked into the consultation room.
“The lab results confirm acute gastroenteritis. What did you eat tonight?” the doctor asked. “Just some stimulating food. Nothing special.” Yinchi replied. “Was it spicy? Where did you eat it?” the doctor asked again. Xueman hesitated, about to speak, but Yinchi cut her off: “Sichuan Boiled Beef bought from a street vendor.” The doctor shook his head: “No wonder. Is that even fit for human consumption?” Xueman’s “You!” was about to come out, but Yinchi over there let out an “Ouch” again. She was suppressing her laughter so hard that her stomach started cramping again. “Here, go downstairs and get the medicine. Eat something bland these few days. Stop eating those dirty things.” “Haha, okay. Hahaha, thank you, doctor. Hahahaha.” Yinchi finally couldn’t hold back and burst into uncontrollable laughter. The doctor looked at her speechlessly, completely bewildered.
After leaving the hospital, Xueman hit her hard. “I’ve been feeling so guilty all night and accompanied you to the doctor. And you even teamed up with the doctor to criticize me.” Yinchi flagged down a taxi, “What are you talking about? Don’t wrongly accuse me. I was being kind by giving you a way out.” In the end, the two bickered as they got into the car.
Back home, Xueman fed Yinchi the medicine and felt relieved only when her complexion looked a bit better. “You get some rest. I’m going back.” Yinchi saw her to the door. Xueman fumbled in her pocket and realized, oh no, she hadn’t brought her keys. Seeing the embarrassed look on her face as she stood there. What? Did she not bring her keys? Is she staying over again? Oh no, remembering the scene on the sofa last time, Yinchi’s face suddenly felt burning hot.
Xueman turned around and looked at her innocently: “I…” Yinchi crossed her arms over her chest, “Fine, come in.” Hmph! Why act so reluctant? I’m doing this for you! Xueman was quite unhappy.
Before going to sleep, Yinchi changed into that big shirt and walked up to Xueman: “Hey. Where are you sleeping?” This person is so strange, asking me where to sleep in her own house. “I only have one bedroom. I’ll sleep on the bed, you sleep on the floor.” What? Sleep on the floor? How could she even think of that? “Is that how you treat a guest?” Xueman said angrily. “Then you sleep on the sofa. But the living room doesn’t have heating.” With that, she grabbed a blanket and threw it onto the sofa. “Good night, neighbor.” She then walked into the bedroom.
Xueman sighed. Sigh, who told her to play a trick on her, and then not bring her keys afterward. She reluctantly lay down on the sofa, pulling up the thin blanket.
Yinchi said she was sleeping, but she felt uncomfortable lying in the quilt. She thought about the gentle girl who not only had a delicate face but also a kind heart. She had a bit of a temper, but why was she so cute when she got angry? Yinchi’s heart was beating warmly, and this beating made her body temperature gradually rise. Forget it, just go to sleep first.
In winter, Guangzhou without heating is a despairing cold. Xueman huddled and shivered on the sofa, her hands and feet quickly turning ice cold. She turned on the light, got up, and searched the living room. There were no more blankets or clothes to cover herself with. This person is so unreasonable, and she’s even good-looking and sings well. Unable to fall asleep, Xueman quietly walked into Yinchi’s bedroom. Sigh, even sleeping on the floor would be fine.
“Hey. What do you want to do?” Just as she was about to touch her shoulder to wake her up, Yinchi suddenly spoke. “I… it’s too cold outside…” Yes, how could she let a girl sleep in the living room on such a cold night, Yinchi felt a little guilty too. Should she invite her to sleep together? No, that would be too embarrassing.
She turned over, her back facing her: “Bring the blanket in and sleep on the floor.” As soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted it. Do I really have the heart to let her sleep on the floor? Hearing Xueman open the door and prepare to leave. Yinchi turned around and quickly changed her mind: “Unless… you change your clothes… then you can come up.” Seeing Xueman frozen there, Yinchi pointed to the wardrobe: “Find a nightgown for yourself.” Xueman opened the closet door and rummaged through, but there were no decent clothes suitable for sleeping. In the end, she could only pull out a shirt to wear. But there was only a top, no pants? Forget it, she’ll make do for now.
After changing, Yinchi watched Xueman, timid like a kitten, tuck herself into her quilt. As soon as she entered this warm space, she felt as if a cold wind had hit her. Oh my god! Why was her body so icy? She must have been frozen outside for a long time. A wave of guilt washed over her, what have I been doing all night?
“Are you cold?” she asked softly. “Mhm. Very cold.” Xueman replied lightly. Their eyes met for a second. Yinchi’s right hand reached around Xueman’s back neck, pulling her into an embrace. The moment her body touched Xueman’s ice-cold temperature, she couldn’t help but shiver a few times, but she quickly calmed down. I’m sorry, I’ve put you through so much. She silently thought to herself.
The sudden warmth was too much for Xueman to handle. Her embrace was so warm, even a little hot, was it because of the fever? Her chin rested on Xueman’s forehead, and her arms held her body tightly. For the first time, Xueman felt her heart racing, the rhythm of its beating getting faster and faster. What’s wrong? What is this feeling? She clearly hated her so much.
“Are you still cold?” she whispered in her ear. “Not anymore…” Xueman gripped her clothes, and unexpectedly, she nestled her head closer to her chest.
This night was special. Though she had only just met her, her body needed her so much. Looking at her usual cold face, she felt her burning heart. This girl named Yinchi, are you a spark beneath an iceberg?
