My Heart Beats - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The next morning, the winter sunlight refracted through the glass window, spilling over the two of them, warm and cozy. Xueman slowly opened her eyes and realized they were still in the exact same position as when they fell asleep last night. Her face immediately flushed. She could almost hear her heartbeat.
Was it really that cold? Why was she holding on so tightly? Xueman pursed her lips but did not break free from the embrace. She slightly lifted her head and met Yinchi’s well-defined face. Seeing her this closely, she realized how beautiful her high nose and thin lips were, and her sharp facial contours were perfect. Sigh! If she’s this handsome, why does she enjoy saying such annoying things?
Xueman placed the back of her hand on Yinchi’s forehead. The fever was gone. She finally let out a sigh of relief. Under the gentle touch, Yinchi stirred, and the arm holding Xueman even tightened a little. The most incredible thing was that the corner of her mouth actually lifted; it seemed like the first time she had ever seen this scoundrel smile. Doesn’t she look pretty when she smiles? Why does she act so aloof in front of me? If I had seen you like this the first time, I definitely wouldn’t have disliked you.
The more Xueman thought about Yinchi’s smile, the angrier she got, and she finally broke free with force and sat up. Yinchi was also woken by the sudden movement, looked at her drowsily, and then groaned, “Ah.” “You lunatic, I kindly took you in for the night, and you won’t even let me sleep?” Her voice sounded genuinely exhausted, and Xueman suddenly felt apologetic, but she couldn’t swallow her pride. “I want breakfast.”
Yinchi turned over, her back to her: “Eat whatever you can find.”
Xueman changed clothes and went into the kitchen. Opening the fridge, she saw, great, nothing but a few eggs and some drinks. In the cupboard, there were only instant noodles. This woman sure treats herself well! If she weren’t broke right now, she’d rush downstairs to buy a bun, which would be better than eating instant noodles. Left with no choice, she cooked two packs of instant noodles and fried two eggs. She walked into the room to call that scoundrel to eat breakfast.
Yinchi knew there was no way she could go back to sleep if she didn’t get up, so she reluctantly came out to the living room to eat the noodles. The place was so bare there wasn’t even a dining table, and the two of them silently ate their noodles on the sofa. Xueman picked up the medicine the doctor had prescribed last night from the coffee table and poured a glass of water. “Take your medicine and rest a bit more.” Yinchi looked at Xueman, whose apologetic expression made her heart ache a little. She took the medicine and water, finished it quietly, and said blandly, “It’s not really your fault. My stomach is just weak.” “And you buy so many instant noodles with a weak stomach? You brought this on yourself.” “You’re too nosy, aren’t you?” Yinchi rolled her eyes at her. Does she really enjoy bickering with her so much? Although, she found this side of her rather cute.
“I just don’t want someone flushing the toilet in the middle of the night and disturbing my sleep.” “That’s still better than someone making noise late at night when they should be sleeping.”
The word “noise” struck Xueman, and her face darkened immediately. Yes! Regarding her nascent singing career, Yinchi had hit a nerve; she still hadn’t received any news from Taiwan, which must mean failure.
Just moments ago, they were arguing, but now she was completely silent. Yinchi knew she had said the wrong thing. “Actually, it sounds really nice before 11 PM, it’s bel canto.” Seeing she still wasn’t responding, Yinchi quickly changed the subject. “How are you getting back? Did you call a locksmith?” “I’m going to Henry’s place; he has the spare key.” Boyfriend? Yinchi mused secretly. “Let’s leave together then. I have to go to work.” “Aren’t you resting?” “No. I feel much better.”
After tidying up the coffee table, the two walked out one after the other. A tall man was already standing at Xueman’s doorway. “Henry.” Xueman walked up and patted him, “Why are you here?” The man named Henry didn’t answer immediately; instead, he looked at Yinchi behind her. “Who is she?” “She’s my neighbor. I forgot my keys and stayed at her place for the night.”
Yinchi nodded politely at him. Walking past Xueman, her cold face suddenly broke into a captivating smile and she said, “Someone is here to help you now. Goodbye, my dear neighbor.”
That fleeting smile from Yinchi made Xueman’s heart skip a beat. She watched her leave until her back disappeared around the corner.
“Why did you suddenly come up?” Xueman turned to Henry. Henry took out the key, opened the door, and stepped aside to let Xueman enter first. “There’s news from Haiyuan.” “Really? What’s the result?” After closing the door, Henry took off his coat and hung it on the sofa, then walked over to Xueman, adjusting his glasses: “Understood Love officially belongs to you.”
The matter she had been anticipating for many days finally had an answer, and an exciting one at that. “That’s great! What about the other song?” Henry didn’t speak, just gently shook his head. Seeing Xueman’s sudden look of disappointment, he quickly added, “We have one song now; the second and third will come soon. Don’t worry too much, we still have time.”
Thinking that she might not have gotten even one song, this was finally the first step. Xueman asked gratefully, “When is the recording?” “The day after tomorrow. Just practice a lot these days.” “Okay, I won’t give up this opportunity.” Henry looked at his watch and said, “Have you eaten? I’ll take you out for dim sum.”
Xueman smiled, suddenly recalling the person she had eaten instant noodles with. “I already ate.”
