- Chapter 101 - Long Xiao, Why Are You Blushing?
After hearing the whole story, Long Xiao felt both heartache for Si An and a gnawing rage that nearly made him grind his teeth to dust.
The crisp sandalwood scent in the air now carried a sour edge. After the initial absurdity, envy, jealousy, and hatred surged through him.
Si An didn’t know it, but Long Xiao did Wen He was the protagonist of the original novel. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have such ridiculously good luck.
Long Xiao had known about this life-saving debt for some time, but he’d assumed it involved some life-threatening danger.
He hadn’t asked Si An about it, nor had he purchased the System’s booklet. Instead, he’d patiently waited for Si An to tell him himself.
But now that Si An had finally told him, Long Xiao was even more displeased. Wen He’s luck was so sour it made his teeth ache.
Just as the Omega had straightened up and begun eating seriously, he suddenly heard a grinding sound beside him, a distinct crunch.
Si An ……
He turned to see Long Xiao’s lowered gaze, the sandalwood scent in the air now bitter and sour.
Long Xiao’s blatant jealousy and heartache were almost endearingly straightforward.
Si An smiled and used his chopsticks to place a large helping of honey-glazed chicken wings—Long Xiao’s favorite—onto his plate.
Long Xiao, don’t brood.
Even if the Si Clan hadn’t supported the Wen Clan, those partnerships would have gone to other families or corporations.
Rather than let potential rivals profit, it’s better to cultivate a loyal dog.
For the first twenty years, the Wen Family actually performed admirably.
As Si An spoke, he watched the alpha’s lowered gaze and reached out to smooth the furrow between Long Xiao’s brows.
When necessary, they would also unleash their dogs to bite.
There might have been some genuine gratitude involved initially, but ultimately, it was a calculated decision based on weighing the benefits and risks.
Now that the Wen Family had fallen, everything the Si Clan had granted them had been reclaimed.
And Wen He, throughout his actions, had never harmed Si An.
The Omega’s voice was calm and even, his ice-blue eyes meeting Long Xiao’s gaze, soothing his husband’s agitation. A sweet rose fragrance brushed against Long Xiao’s cheek, dispelling the alpha’s lingering restlessness.
Long Xiao remained silent, relaxing his brows and shifting closer to the Omega until they were pressed together. Only then did he pick up a chicken wing from his bowl.
With two sharp snaps of his canines, the alpha chewed methodically, his expression unchanged, until every morsel was thoroughly crushed before swallowing.
After finishing his meal, the alpha didn’t leave as usual but remained behind.
He settled onto the sofa in the corner of Si An’s office, pulled out a pile of mineral stones, and began quietly shaping them into roses.
The Omega watched for a while, only looking away when Assistant Su sent over some documents.
And so, Long Xiao sat there, wordlessly sculpting roses all afternoon.
During this time, Si An had Assistant Su bring him tea and afternoon snacks several times, treating him more like a child than a husband.
Long Xiao licked the roof of his mouth, knowing Si An was still trying to coax him. His heart swelled with warmth, the corners of his narrow eyes curving downward as he focused even more intently on his work.
By the time Si An finished working, Long Xiao had crafted a small bouquet of vibrant, multicolored roses, each one exquisitely beautiful.
But just as Si An expected the alpha to present them to him, Long Xiao looked up, waved his hand, and stored them all in his spatial ring.
He rose from the sofa to greet his wife as she finished work, carefully removing her coat and draping it over her shoulders.
An’an, let’s go.
Si An’s eyes flickered, his ice-blue gaze fixed on the alpha’s expression. After a moment of silence, he stepped out of the office.
Perhaps because the alpha was present, the Omega’s mind wandered slightly, allowing him to delegate some work to his subordinates and avoid feeling too fatigued.
As they walked out of the office side by side, Si An made no mention of Long Xiao’s decision to store the roses.
He knew that in the end, those roses would inevitably find their way into his hands.
President Long, your parents’ package has arrived and been delivered to your home. Should I retrieve it for you?
Assistant Chen’s call came through, the wind whistling in the background. Long Xiao grunted in acknowledgment. Have it sent to President Si’s residence, he said before hanging up.
The two had already viewed the house and were on their way home.
The house was fine, but nothing special—a large, flat-style apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows. Long Xiao had no objections, but Si An wasn’t particularly impressed.
The Omega turned his face to the car window, his mood slightly subdued. It wasn’t enough to make him angry, but it had dampened his spirits.
Bringing his alpha along had yielded less-than-satisfactory results.
Long Xiao, driving, tried to reassure him. Darling, if you’re not satisfied, we can look at more places. It’s no problem—I’m free anytime.
My parents’ birthday gift for you has arrived. I wonder what it is, they’re being so secretive about it.
The house isn’t urgent. If nothing else works out, we can just renovate my place. I’ve already planted roses all over the lawn—it’ll be beautiful when they bloom.
Si An turned to look at Long Xiao. When did you do that?
Long Xiao parked the car, turned to meet the Omega’s gaze, and smiled. When we were arguing.
……
As they got out of the car, Si An murmured, Because I said you never gave me roses?
Long Xiao wrapped his arm around Si An’s waist, hugging his wife from behind and checking the temperature of his beloved little snake. Exactly. What a terrible oversight.
Si An lowered his gaze, covering Long Xiao’s hand with his own, indulgently allowing himself to be led into the elevator in this awkward, uncomfortable position.
As the elevator doors opened, the first thing they saw was Assistant Chen standing by the door, holding a gift.
Assistant Chen, dressed in a professional suit, cradled the medium-sized gift box in his arms.
Upon spotting the two men embracing, he immediately lowered his head, inwardly scolding himself for his lack of tact.
President Long, your parents sent this gift, he said, bending down to gently place the box by the door. Without looking up, he hurried away, his steps swift but composed, his retreating figure bearing a striking resemblance to the butler’s at Old Si Manor.
Si An and Long Xiao exchanged a glance. The Omega glared at the alpha, who chuckled softly.
Inside the house, Si An was to open the gift himself. Long Xiao sat beside him, propping his chin on his hand, his expression relaxed and lazy. An’an, go ahead and open it.
Without further ado, Si An reached out and tore open the silk ribbon. The box fell apart, revealing round, fragmented pieces inside.
Contained within a transparent box, they appeared to be… eggshells?
Long Xiao lowered his hand from his chin, his expression turning slightly more serious. The pure white eggshells were adorned with silver patterns at both ends.
Si An …Long Xiao, are these your eggshells?
Long Xiao remained silent. Judging by the lingering scent on the fragments, they were indeed his eggshells.
It seems so, he replied.
The alpha leaned closer for a closer look, confirming his suspicion. He then looked up at his husband, his voice tightening slightly. An’an,
these are my eggshells.
What are they for? Si An asked, puzzled. He sat down in silence, appreciating the shells’ beauty but wondering why Long Xiao’s parents would send them as a gift. What was their purpose?
As soon as the question left his lips, Long Xiao’s face slowly flushed crimson.
Si An observed this subtle change, a hint of amusement flickering in his ice-blue eyes. Seeing his husband’s rare blush, the usually aloof beauty softened, his features relaxing. His long, thick, light-gold eyelashes curved into a tender arc.
…Long Xiao, why are you blushing?
