- Chapter 21 - What's So Good About That Awful Medicine?
As Si An pondered this, he finished a pot of porridge and cleaned his plate of shrimp dumplings.
After breakfast, it was time for his medication. The pills, gathered in his palm, formed a full handful.
Si An stared at the pills, swallowing them one by one with warm water.
It wasn’t that he was being delicate he had genuinely choked and gagged on them before. The pills for treating his pheromone disorder were unusually large.
After swallowing all the pills, Si An took a few more sips of water to suppress the lingering bitter taste.
He picked up his phone and glanced at the small red dot marking today’s date on the calendar.
Today was September 18th. The last flare-up of his condition had occurred three months ago.
It was during that episode that Wen He had helped him, prompting his hasty decision to get engaged.
At his recent check-up, the doctor had warned that his body was barely holding on.
Si An pressed his lips together, his bright hair falling forward, the shadow obscuring his deepening gaze.
Ding-dong.
A green message bubble popped up at the top of his screen, displaying the sender’s name without needing to be opened.
Si An tapped the notification, his eyes dropping to the illuminated text
2158
Long Xiao Good night, sweet dreams.
0745
Si An Good morning.
0813
Long Xiao Good morning.
Long Xiao You’re not working these next few days, right? Should I have your gift delivered to your doorstep?
Long Xiao I hope you get some rest.
Three brief sentences, nothing more. Even the words of concern felt perfunctory.
Si An switched off his phone screen, lowered his gaze, and shuffled back to the bedroom in his slippers.
The curtains remained drawn, and a few roses stood in a vase on the bedside table. These roses, which had arrived just yesterday, were still in full bloom, showing no signs of wilting.
Si An collapsed onto the bed, the nape of his neck feeling slightly warm from the medication. He shifted restlessly, reaching out to pull Long Xiao’s jacket into his arms.
Unfortunately, after a night had passed, the faint pheromones that had lingered on the jacket had almost completely dissipated. Apart from a faint trace of cologne, Si An could detect nothing else.
Almost instantly, Si An’s brow furrowed, his lips pressed into a thin line. He violently flung Long Xiao’s jacket off the bed. The metal buttons clattered loudly against the hardwood floor.
Frustrated, Si An turned his head away, refusing to look at the pile of black clothing that irritated him so.
His physical discomfort and foul mood made the veins on his forehead throb visibly. After gritting his teeth and enduring another fifteen minutes, the turmoil finally subsided.
As the heat in his nape faded, Si An felt the familiar exhaustion wash over him. A thin, fine layer of sweat covered his body. He exhaled softly, his eyes drooping with fatigue, and carried his clothes toward the bathroom.
Click. The bathroom door closed.
At that exact moment, the phone Si An had carelessly tossed onto the bed lit up again and again.
Long Xiao stared at his phone, puzzled. An hour had passed, and Si An still hadn’t replied to his message.
Could his phone be broken?
The Alpha flipped the thin electronic device over and over in his hand, examining it closely.
Normally, the Omega would have replied long ago.
Did I wake up too late today? Is Si An angry?
But he usually woke up even later.
Long Xiao, having just finished washing up, sat on the bed, blinking in confusion.
After a moment’s thought, he sent Si An another message
Long Xiao You haven’t replied in a long time. Why?
Long Xiao Can you tell me the reason?
Long Xiao Don’t you want the gift anymore?
Heartbroken, Long Xiao sat stiffly on the edge of the bed, his handsome face clouded with melancholy.
The clear morning light streamed through the window, casting a silhouette of his profile that could easily serve as a debut poster.
His long silver hair cascaded down his back, regal and elegant. His narrow, deep-set eyes lowered, a hint of golden light glinting between his lashes.
With a face as flawless as jade and eyes as bright as stars, he could have been plucked straight from a CEO drama set to play the male lead without missing a beat.
Yet even such a strikingly handsome man was still vulnerable to heartbreak.
Long Xiao waited a while longer, but still didn’t receive any news from Si An. He closed his eyes, his heart aching.
He had given Si An his entire heart, fulfilling every request the Omega had made.
Yet Si An remained so cold.
His phone must be broken, Long Xiao thought, averting his gaze and calmly looking out the window, his expression indifferent.
Just then, the phone in his hand, which had been silent all this time, vibrated gently.
Long Xiao froze, lowering his head to look. His silver eyelashes fluttered down, making him look like a celestial being.
Si An I took my medication and feel unwell.
Si An It’s your fault. Your pheromones dissipated too quickly.
Si An Address . Leave it at the door.
Though the message was short—only three lines, one of which inexplicably blamed him—Long Xiao’s mood instantly lifted the moment he saw it.
After reading the message, he looked up, once again the confident and composed President Long.
Long Xiao moved swiftly. He tidied himself up quickly, grabbed the gift he had prepared earlier, and headed out.
Medication… Could it be for pheromone imbalance disorder?
Remembering the plot from the original novel, Long Xiao’s eyes darkened, and he frowned.
Long Xiao sat in the driver’s seat, his hands gripping the steering wheel. A faint trace of worry flickered between his cold, handsome brows.
Even on a weekend morning, the roads were still crowded with cars. It seemed that those workaholic oxen and horses were still toiling for their bosses, even on their days off.
As Long Xiao gripped the steering wheel, the pendant around his neck glowed steadily, gathering all the pheromones radiating from him.
It’s my fault, he thought. I completely overlooked this. I didn’t prepare any pheromones for my beloved Omega.
This realization deepened his tenderness, and that emotion was honestly conveyed through his pheromones, all of which were drawn into the pendant.
However, the Alpha was currently too preoccupied with the frustrating traffic jam ahead to notice the subtle shift in his pheromones.
This is such a nuisance. Once we leave the island, I can’t just fly through the air anymore.
If they were on Dragon Island, he could simply transform into his true form, spread his wings, and reach Si An’s house in moments.
But now he was stuck driving, relying on this four-wheeled contraption. He had no idea how much longer it would take.
I wonder how Si An is doing right now. Is he alright?
What’s so great about that lousy medicine anyway? I’m far more effective.
