- Chapter 43 - Si An, Don't Look At Me Like That
After finishing his meal, Long Xiao didn’t linger. He cleared the table, washed the dishes, and left on his own.
Just before leaving, he crouched down in the entryway and silently examined the shoe cabinet.
Long Xiao didn’t rummage through the cabinet. Instead, he retrieved the slippers he had found on the bottom shelf during his previous visit—the ones he had worn only once—and quietly placed them in a nearby corner.
Hopefully, they won’t be put back in the cabinet, the Alpha thought expressionlessly. Maybe next time I come, I won’t have to wear shoe covers.
With these thoughts, he gently closed the door and left Si An’s home.
For the next three or four days, Long Xiao continued to appear in Si An’s line of sight, circling around him relentlessly.
Though his face remained impassive, his expression cold and inscrutable, the Alpha’s actions spoke volumes.
The staff on the first floor of the Si Corporation had already come to regard Long Xiao as a regular. They would automatically greet him at the entrance, take his car keys, and park his vehicle.
Occasionally, as Long Xiao was leaving, they would politely invite him to stay for a meal, knowing the Si Clan’s cafeteria served excellent food.
But Long Xiao always shook his head and politely declined, explaining that he had to attend cooking classes. He insisted on finishing everything he cooked in class to avoid waste.
The more classes he took, the more dishes he learned to make, and the more he ate.
Fortunately, Long Xiao was a Silver Dragon, and even vast quantities of food were mere morsels to him.
Through diligent study, Long Xiao mastered a wide range of everyday dishes, especially various shrimp recipes—Si An’s favorite.
Though Si An had never explicitly stated it, his fondness for shrimp was obvious from his behavior.
If Long Xiao couldn’t even notice something so obvious, he might as well give up on his pursuit and return to Dragon Island to retake the Ancestor’s mandatory classes.
Speaking of Dragon Island, Long Xiao had been busy lately installing a wide-range signal transmission device.
During his last visit to the island to celebrate his grandfather’s birthday, Long Xiao brought back many modern specialties, including, of course, smartphones.
Although Dragon Island now housed over a thousand dragons, only a handful knew how to use smartphones. Before leaving the island, Long Xiao had thought relying solely on shouting for communication was perfectly adequate.
But when his grandfather occasionally complained that his throat was hoarse from shouting, it instantly transported Long Xiao back to his pre-island days.
Indeed, Dragon Island was vast, with its far ends too distant for shouting to be practical. The elderly dragons grew weary from the effort, let alone the young ones.
With this in mind, Long Xiao quietly purchased numerous smartphones and SIM cards, bringing them all back to Dragon Island.
Using smartphones wasn’t complicated—literacy was the only requirement. Fortunately, despite the Dragon Clan’s somewhat outdated education system, most members were literate.
Once Long Xiao finished installing the signal transmission device, Dragon Island would finally escape its Stone Age reliance on shouting for communication.
Moreover, when his and Si An’s dragonlings were born, they wouldn’t have to strain their tiny throats shouting from a young age.
At this thought, Long Xiao’s stern features softened imperceptibly, his heart warming with tenderness.
The Dragon Clan faced challenges in reproduction, but Long Xiao wasn’t worried. Dragons possessed long lifespans, and they could even share their vitality with their mates.
Si An sat beside him, watching Long Xiao inexplicably break into a silly grin. He felt a twinge of annoyance.
Long Xiao, what are you thinking about? Si An’s clear, crisp Omega voice snapped the Alpha out of his reverie.
Long Xiao blinked back to awareness, turning to Si An beside him. The faint smile that had been playing on his lips widened.
The Alpha’s gaze softened completely, his eyes crinkling at the corners. His narrow eyes curved into crescent moons, and his lashes drooped like silver crescents.
Nothing much, he murmured, just thinking about you.
Si An choked slightly, though he was growing accustomed to Long Xiao’s bluntness and directness. After spending so much time together, he had come to understand the Alpha’s way of expressing himself.
Still, the Omega clearly wasn’t satisfied with Long Xiao’s response.
Thinking about me? How can that be ‘nothing much’? Si An lifted his lashes slightly, glancing at Long Xiao. It was less flirtation and more a rebuke born of his high self-regard.
Anything concerning him couldn’t possibly be trivial. Yet this proud gesture inexplicably stirred something in the Alpha’s heart.
Long Xiao found himself unable to look away, staring intently at Si An. But before he could truly take in the sight, the Omega had already averted his gaze.
Long Xiao studied Si An’s face, thought for a moment, and nodded in agreement.
You’re right. Thinking of you is no small matter.
My Heat will start in the next day or two. I’ve already prepared calming pheromone materials for you—all cashmere.
None of the three coats Long Xiao had given Si An last time had satisfied the picky Omega.
Finally, yesterday, they went to the mall together. Long Xiao noticed Si An’s gaze lingering on cashmere sweaters and finally understood.
Si An’s chopsticks paused slightly—a subtle hesitation easily missed. He brought a spicy salt-and-pepper shrimp to his mouth, chewed slowly, and swallowed before asking,
A whole week?
Long Xiao nodded, his gaze drawn to Si An’s lips, now reddened by the spice.
Is it too spicy? I’ll use less chili next time.
He slid a glass of chilled lemon water across the table.
Made with natural, high-quality lemons and handcrafted with a touch of sugar—Si An disliked overly sweet drinks.
Si An took the glass, sipped, and shook his head gently.
No, it’s perfect. Better than yesterday’s scrambled eggs with shrimp.
Long Xiao smiled. The Omega’s preference for spicy food naturally made the salt-and-pepper flavor more appealing.
Your lips looked a bit dry the day before yesterday. Are you feeling a bit overheated? Try to eat less spicy food.
Though Alpha spoke those words, he had noticed yesterday that the Omega had eaten very little. Today, he prepared Si An’s favorite flavors and served them.
Faced with Long Xiao’s actions, Si An glanced at him and then ignored him, asking directly,
How do you manage your Heat? Inhibitors?
Long Xiao paused for a moment, nodding and then shaking his head.
More or less.
Si An frowned, his gaze fixed on Long Xiao, his expression clearly demanding, What does ‘more or less’ mean?
What do you mean by ‘more or less’?
What else could there be besides inhibitors? It couldn’t possibly involve an Omega helping him.
At this thought, Si An’s eyes turned cold, his gaze becoming scrutinizing.
Long Xiao’s Adam’s apple bobbed once. When he spoke again, his voice was slightly hoarse. Alphas nearing their Heat were naturally more sensitive. He said,
Si An, don’t look at me like that.
Long Xiao’s magnetic voice was low and intimate, the close proximity between them creating an inexplicably ambiguous atmosphere.
His deep-set eyes were shadowed, his gilded irises darkened, and his tone was gentle, yet it inexplicably made Si An tense.
The moment Long Xiao spoke, even the surrounding air seemed to shift, as if calling Si An’s name was a whispered declaration of love.
Si An’s mind raced for a split second before he realized what was happening. He cursed inwardly, What a perverted dragon.
Having already finished most of his meal, Si An immediately stood up at the sight of Long Xiao, wiped his mouth, and returned to his office chair.
Finish eating and get out immediately, he snapped.
Yet as he spoke, a fine layer of goosebumps prickled across the back of his hand.
Before his conscious mind could process it, his body’s instincts had already warned him of the danger lurking beneath Long Xiao’s gentle demeanor.
