My New Love That Isn’t Fated - Episode 6
There were several options presented to Lilia.
First, there was the possibility of becoming an officer at the royal castle, working as an educator for the young prince and princesses.
The second option was a position at the Royal Research Institute, a prestigious research facility located within the royal grounds. It had several branches, focusing on fields like medicine, history, engineering, and energy studies.
The third option was becoming a librarian at the Tenegro Library. The library, known for its growing collection, was located in the capital city, where Lilia would be responsible for management tasks.
There were other jobs as well, but just as the receptionist began to offer more, Lilia interrupted him.
“I’ve made my decision.”
All of the jobs offered had their own rewards. They all aligned with Lilia’s desire to help others.
Considering the salary, any of them would provide enough for her to live independently.
However, both the royal officer position and the research institute role would require her to interact closely with nobility and royalty.
Lilia didn’t wish for revenge against Elad. She didn’t want to ruin his or Louise’s position. She didn’t want to make them the subject of ridicule in high society, as her father and stepmother had once been.
(Living a life built on someone else’s misfortune isn’t the kind of happiness I want.)
Just like the actresses who sang for help in the theater, or the woman who fled from her unfaithful husband to another man’s arms, or the woman who had an inappropriate crush on her boss.
Behind their passions were people like Lilia—people who would never become the main character in any story.
Yet still, all Lilia wanted was a peaceful life.
That’s why she knew she needed to avoid a job that could potentially spread the scandal of the Griez family and put her in contact with people who might reveal her troubled background.
“Then… I would like to work as a librarian at the Tenegro Library.”
The receptionist looked at her thoughtfully.
“With your education, I believe you could also work as a lady-in-waiting to a prince.”
“I love books. I love the smell of ink. Also, the Tenegro Library offers storytime sessions for children, right? I want to do that kind of work…”
“Understood. I’ll write you a letter of recommendation. Take it with you to the Tenegro Library, and they’ll be able to assist you.”
The receptionist handed Lilia a letter of recommendation from the employment office. She took it, feeling as if it were a light of hope granted to her by the gods.
Elad’s life continued to worsen with each passing day. He began staying out later and later. Some days, he wouldn’t return until the afternoon, and occasionally, he would be gone for two or three days at a time.
“I wonder what has happened to the young master? I thought he had become a bit more serious thanks to Lady Lilia…”
Irma, the head maid who had served the Griez family for many years and had been Elad’s wet nurse when he was a child, sighed deeply while pouring tea. She was a plump, kind-looking woman who never directly scolded Elad, but it was clear that she had concerns. Recently, she had been sighing more often, her worries growing.
“…Irma, it’s becoming unbearable, waiting for Elad to come home every day.”
“My lady…”
“Until now, I’ve been selling household items or small things at the open market, right?”
“Yes. The embroidered handkerchiefs you make are very popular!”
Other maids and servants gathered around, looking at Lilia with concern.
“I really enjoy working with all of you at the market… I love working. I know that’s not the kind of woman Elad wants.”
Everyone listened quietly to Lilia’s words. Their eyes were filled with concern, and Lilia felt a sense of warmth from their trust.
The time she had spent here had not been wasted. Lilia was not alone. Though her efforts had not reached Elad, they were not in vain.
“But… I want to work. If I work, it can help with our finances, right? My stepmother also helps with my father’s business. Even nobles need to work in today’s society, I think.”
“Are you going to work, my lady?”
“Yes. I’ll leave the housework and market duties to you, Irma. I’ll sort through the old dresses on my days off. Elad doesn’t even come home anymore. We haven’t exchanged words in days. I think it will be fine if I leave the house for work during the day.”
Everyone exchanged glances. They clearly felt sympathy and concern for Lilia, but they understood her determination.
“Understood,” they nodded in agreement.
With the consent of her household, Lilia took the letter of recommendation the next day and headed for the Tenegro Library.
The library’s administrator, upon seeing the letter, immediately accepted Lilia and said, “Please start working tomorrow.”
Thus, Lilia began her new life as a librarian at the Tenegro Library.
