My Omega Ex-Wife Is Acting a Little Strange - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“Then, Yu Mo, pick your own seat.” Teacher Chang’s voice sounded in Shen Shuyu’s ear, and Shen Shuyu’s slightly eased emotions fluctuated once more.
Shen Shuyu lifted her head again to look at Yu Mo, who was seriously scanning the empty seats in the classroom, and without drawing attention, she straightened the empty desk beside her a bit.
Under Shen Shuyu’s gaze, Yu Mo nodded, stared at the row by the window, and asked, “Can I choose any of the empty seats?”
“Of course.” Teacher Chang nodded affirmatively.
“Then, that one there.”
Just like in the previous life, Yu Mo spoke crisply, and her hand stretched out straight. Her slender fingers pointed directly at a certain seat in the row by the window, and meaningful smiles appeared on everyone’s faces in the class.
Because the direction Yu Mo pointed at had an empty seat next to Shen Shuyu.
The little white rabbit in Shen Shuyu’s heart started thumping against her chest again, and she pretended not to care as she watched Yu Mo walk toward her row, while beads of eager anticipation that she could hardly hide jumped in her eyes.
But something Shen Shuyu had not expected happened. Under everyone’s gaze, Yu Mo stood straight with her backpack on and walked straight past the empty seat beside Shen Shuyu, heading to the back. Shen Shuyu watched as Yu Mo’s line of sight clearly passed her by like she was just on the way, without even sparing her a glance.
A gust of cold wind slipped through the window that was not fully closed and blew across Shen Shuyu’s face, stinging her cheeks. Shen Shuyu’s heartbeat suddenly went into disarray, with chaotic drumbeats pounding hard against her heart.
No, no, things were not supposed to develop like this.
All of this happened inexplicably, and like the other classmates in the class who were watching the excitement, Shen Shuyu’s pupils shrank involuntarily, and against her usual demeanor, she followed Yu Mo’s back with her eyes toward the rear.
Yu Mo’s footsteps finally stopped at the last seat in the row by the window, standing beside Wei Lai, who was occupying two desks and sleeping with her head buried, and she knocked on the desk twice. “Classmate, wake up. I want to sit inside.”
As soon as she said this, whispers of discussion immediately spread through the class. A flash of incredulity crossed Teacher Chang’s face too. This new transfer student was really one of a kind, passing up so many good spots to choose the very last row in the farthest corner.
“Who are you?” Wei Lai was very annoyed after being woken up, her eyes filled with anger.
Yu Mo looked at the living, breathing teenager Wei Lai sitting right in front of her, and the image of Wei Lai on the night she died flashed through her mind. Time rewound, and the gaunt girl who could not fill out her clothes returned to her arrogant and untamed self.
Yu Mo felt deeply moved in her heart, nearly bursting into tears of joy.
Then Yu Mo reached out to Wei Lai, a brilliant smile lighting up her face. She introduced herself. “Your new desk mate, Yu Mo.”
“There, there’s an empty seat. Go sit there.” Wei Lai was irritated at being disturbed from her sleep and at having her two-desk bed about to be split, so she pointed at the spot next to Shen Shuyu and dismissed her.
“Yes, Yu, there’s an empty seat right by Shuyu. That’s a really good spot.” Teacher Chang advised too.
The hope in Shen Shuyu’s heart, which had nearly gone out, reignited, and her calm eyes filled with anticipation and hope. She did not mind this little mishap, as long as Yu Mo was still her desk mate. The feeling of being chosen by someone was just too tormenting.
But when she heard the two words “Shuyu” from Teacher Chang’s mouth, Yu Mo’s brows furrowed slightly. In this life, she wanted no entanglements with Shen Shuyu at all, not even to get close.
Without even thinking, Yu Mo openly refused. “I think I’m tall, so the third row would not suit me. The last row is just fine.”
With that, Yu Mo did not wait for Wei Lai’s reaction and walked straight to the inside seat in the last row, pulling out the chair and sitting down crisply.
Yu Mo’s action, which was nearly rebellious and incomprehensible to everyone, sparked discussion among the classmates in the classroom.
Who was Shen Shuyu? The only daughter of the Shen Group, the young miss of a great financial clan. The girl killer who had drawn the favor of countless girls right from freshman year. In their eyes, being desk mates with Shen Shuyu was something so great you could wake up laughing from a dream. The opportunity was handed right to her, and yet this person just refused it like that.
Teacher Chang vaguely felt that the current Yu Mo was not the same as the Yu Mo she had seen during winter break, but who could say for sure about a girl’s thoughts? This child did not seem hard to get along with either, so just let it be.
“Alright, everyone quiet down and start morning self-study.” After Teacher Chang said this, she stood at the podium for a short while and then left the classroom.
The front door of the classroom closed with a “click” from Teacher Chang, as if putting a period at the end of the seat selection.
Shen Shuyu looked at the still empty desk beside her hand, a hint of disbelief showing faintly between her brows.
Clearly, everything was advancing steadily just like in the previous life, so why had Yu Mo, the part she was so sure would have no changes, become the biggest variable instead?
Yu Mo, the person who in the previous life loved her so deeply that she threw herself in without regard, even giving her life.
In this life, she did not have eyes full of nothing but herself, and she did not come straight to sit beside her.
Shen Shuyu heard the friendly greetings from Yu Mo to the surrounding classmates behind her, words that should have been said to her. She should have looked at her with smiling curved eyes and placed her stationery and books on the desk beside her hand. Then, because of her love at first sight for her, in her flustered state, she knocked over her own pencil case, sparking a round of laughter from the classmates in the class.
“Clang.” A sound of something falling to the ground came from the back row, and Shen Shuyu’s shoulders trembled slightly.
While Yu Mo was tidying the things Wei Lai had put in her desk cubby, she accidentally shoved her comic book to the floor.
“Hey, can you be more careful?” Wei Lai unhappily picked up her precious comic from the ground.
“Sorry about that.” Yu Mo glanced at the comic in Wei Lai’s hand, and having long since figured out Wei Lai’s habits, she put on an explosive display of acting, pretending to be greatly surprised and finally finding a kindred spirit as she said, “Oh, you like ‘Black Blue’ too? Which chapter is this? Lend it to me to see.”
“Huh? You like it too?” Wei Lai shook the book in her hand, feeling like Yu Mo was deliberately getting close to her.
“Yeah, that Akashi…” Yu Mo started chatting animatedly with Wei Lai about it, and the expression on Wei Lai’s face visibly softened.
A teenager’s feelings were just that easy to connect over.
The two people who had been at daggers drawn the second before now became friends over shared interests.
“Ding ding ding…” Yu Mo and Wei Lai had not finished chatting when the bell for the end of morning self-study rang.
Out of curiosity about the new classmate, and also because of Yu Mo’s humorous and witty chat with Wei Lai during self-study just now, quite a few classmates gathered at Yu Mo and Wei Lai’s desks.
Yu Mo had never experienced this kind of scene before. In her previous life, once she set her sights on Shen Shuyu from the podium, she never had any intention of expanding her circle of friends, choosing to ignore all these classmates who were friendly to her as a newcomer, and even her acquaintance with Wei Lai came later during the sports festival when she trained for the 1500 meters in Shen Shuyu’s place and they got to know each other through a fight.
Thinking of these foolish things she had done, Yu Mo’s smile toward the classmates coming over to chat with her gained a few fleeting touches of mockery.
“Hey, I say, Wei Lai, does this mean you’ve found a friend who stinks just like you?” Feng Ruoyu came back from getting water with Zhou Qin, shaking a sky-blue cup as she arrived at Wei Lai’s desk.
“If I stink the same as Yu Mo, then you and Zhou Qin stink the same as me too, so if we’re stinking, we stink together.” Wei Lai laughed disdainfully, patted Yu Mo, and introduced, “This is Feng Ruoyu, that one’s Zhou Qin. The two of them are childhood friends, and me and them are stinky friends from junior high.”
Yu Mo looked at Feng Ruoyu and felt a bit dazed. This person had been the same from childhood to now, and even after differentiating into an Alpha, she had not grown much taller or changed much, at the same height as Zhou Qin, who had differentiated into an Omega. She wondered what she had worn on their wedding day, if she had padded height-increasing insoles, or worn very, very high heels.
At this thought, the look in Yu Mo’s eyes dimmed. She did not know if in her previous life, when she had been reborn, it was still happening in parallel, and if so, then she really owed Feng Ruoyu and Zhou Qin a lot, for disrupting their wedding and ruining this once-in-a-lifetime beautiful memory.
“From now on, we’re friends.” Feng Ruoyu extended her hand to Yu Mo in a friendly way, her smile warm.
“Yeah, friends through life and death.” Yu Mo reached out and grasped Feng Ruoyu’s hand, her gaze steady.
“Friends against the world.” Wei Lai pulled out a new idiom she had learned and put her hand on top.
“It’s ‘bosom friends’.” Zhou Qin quietly corrected her and put her hand on top too.
“Hahaha, illiterate.” “So that’s why we made you the sports committee member.” “I say, how did you even get in here?”…
The sun gradually rose higher, its brilliant light falling into the classroom, and some golden rays landed on Shen Shuyu’s desk too. The jubilant laughter overflowing from the back of the classroom sounded like needles pricking Shen Shuyu’s heart with pain.
Yu Mo had come to her class and, just like in the previous life, made three friends in Wei Lai, Feng Ruoyu, and Zhou Qin, yet she alone was left out.
Shen Shuyu listened to Yu Mo’s unusually distinct voice and unconsciously gripped that paper with the smudged ink tighter. She was still all smiles and bright and flamboyant, but the right person was not her.
She was just like she had been excised from Yu Mo’s life, avoided by her from the start, left behind by her, unnoticed by her, not chosen by her.
Just where had it gone wrong?
