My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 1
“Online dating? Seven years older than you?” Lu Yao jumped up from her chair, staring in disbelief at her childhood friend, Jian Fanxing, who was sitting across from her.
Her sudden loud voice attracted the attention of many people in the milk tea shop. Jian Fanxing quickly pulled Lu Yao down.
Lu Yao sat back in her chair.
“Jian Fanxing, are you crazy, or did I hear wrong? Do you know what you’re doing?” Lu Yao lowered her voice, but her eyes were still full of shock.
Jian Fanxing calmly took a sip of her milk tea before answering.
“I know.”
“Online dating is the most unreliable way to fall in love. You can easily meet scammers or bad…women. They might trick you for money, take advantage of you, or even kidnap you to a remote village to marry a stranger and have children.”
“You know that, and you’re still doing it?!” Lu Yao was speechless. She talked like she was very rational, yet her actions said otherwise.
For a moment, Lu Yao didn’t even know how to convince her friend to step back before it was too late.
She leaned back in her chair, feeling defeated, and started interrogating like a police officer: “What’s his name? Which city does he live in? What does he do? And do you have a photo? Show me.”
Lu Yao was sure that the guy Jian Fanxing was dating must be very handsome. He probably used his looks to trick her into this online romance.
Photo? Jian Fanxing blinked, coughed lightly, and said hesitantly, “No… no photo.”
“No photo?!” Lu Yao was even more shocked. “You don’t even know what he looks like, and you agreed to online date him?!”
Lu Yao stared at Jian Fanxing for a full ten minutes. She felt like the shock of today was greater than all the surprises she had experienced in the past twenty years combined.
“Jian Fanxing, are you really my friend? Or have you been replaced by a love-struck fool from a parallel world?”
This was too unreliable. Lu Yao couldn’t believe that her smart and responsible best friend, who always got top grades, would do something so reckless.
“Xingxing, you haven’t even seen a photo of him. You don’t even know what he looks like, and you’re dating him? And he’s seven years older than you? What exactly do you see in him?” Lu Yao just couldn’t understand, no matter how much she thought about it.
She patted Jian Fanxing’s shoulder and advised her sincerely, “Sister, listen to me. Delete his contact. Online dating is already risky, and what you’re doing is even worse. If you really want a boyfriend, I can introduce you to someone. I even know a few mature older men.”
Jian Fanxing pursed her lips and dropped another bombshell: “It’s not an older man.”
“What?”
“It’s an older woman,” Jian Fanxing said seriously.
“Even if it’s an older woman, online dating is still—wait, a woman?! Your online date is a woman?!” Lu Yao was completely stunned.
Her best friend of more than twenty years… was actually into women?!
Lu Yao suddenly looked at Jian Fanxing carefully and hesitantly asked, “So… are you coming out to me right now?”
Jian Fanxing lowered her eyes, feeling nervous, and softly replied, “Yes.”
The two were silent for a while. Just when Jian Fanxing thought she might lose her best friend, Lu Yao finally spoke.
“Okay, I’ve processed it.”
“Huh?” Jian Fanxing looked up, confused.
Lu Yao smiled and asked, “Xingxing, did you think I’d stop being your friend just because of your sexuality?”
Jian Fanxing didn’t answer, but her silence was enough.
Lu Yao clicked her tongue. “Xingxing, do you have so little faith in me, your best friend?!”
“I may be a woman who likes men, but there’s a saying I really like.”
“There’s only one true orientation in this world—where the heart belongs.”
“I didn’t expect you to like women, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still be best friends.”
Hearing that, Jian Fanxing smiled brightly and nodded. “We will always be best friends.”
Lu Yao nodded too, but then frowned and got back to the main topic. “But Xingxing, I still think online dating is unreliable.”
“There are so many scammers online. I’m afraid you’ll get tricked.”
Jian Fanxing said firmly, “She’s not a scammer.”
Her expression was full of stubbornness.
Lu Yao opened her mouth. No matter how many flaws she pointed out, Jian Fanxing probably wouldn’t believe her.
“Then tell me, what do you like about her?” Lu Yao decided to make her think carefully.
“Her voice is really nice,” Jian Fanxing said with a silly smile. “Yaoyao, you don’t know how attractive her voice is. Every time I hear it, my heart races.”
A voice lover? Lu Yao raised an eyebrow. How many secrets did this friend of hers have?
She let Jian Fanxing continue.
“She treats me very well. She always replies instantly. She’s thoughtful and caring. You know me, I’m careless and often forget things, even my period. But she always remembers and reminds me two days in advance. She tells me what to eat and what to avoid. She even sends me brown sugar and herbal drinks.
We’ve known each other for almost a year, and she never misses a morning or goodnight text. When I’m upset, she notices right away and comforts me. Even when I throw a tantrum, she never gets angry. She just patiently soothes me, no matter how unreasonable my requests are.
Yaoyao, after meeting her, I realized that some people truly spoil you unconditionally. I’m really lucky.”
Lu Yao’s expression turned serious. This scammer was very skilled.
Jian Fanxing was clearly already deeply involved.
Lu Yao felt alarmed. She had to stop her friend from going deeper into this.
She carefully chose her words and said, “Xingxing, I admit she sounds like a good person, but you’ve never met her. You don’t even have a photo. What if she’s ugly? A nice voice doesn’t mean she looks good.”
“And don’t you think she sounds too perfect? Almost like a made-up character? I think you should be more cautious.”
“How can you be sure that the person behind the screen is really who she says she is?”
“At the very least… you two should meet before making things official.”
Jian Fanxing stayed silent. She knew Lu Yao made sense, but she trusted her own instincts more. She believed her girlfriend wasn’t a scammer.
“One day, we will meet,” Jian Fanxing whispered.
“One day.” Her hesitation faded, replaced by determination.
…
Back home, Jian Fanxing stared at her computer screen. The chat with her girlfriend was open.
Her girlfriend was busy, working late every night, but still managed to reply instantly.
She typed: “Sister, I told my best friend about you today.”
As always, the reply came quickly.
“Did my little star get upset?”
Seeing this message, Jian Fanxing teared up. Even without her saying a word, her girlfriend always knew her true feelings first. She really was lucky.
Even though Jian Fanxing clearly told Lu Yao everything about how she and her sister had spent time together, Lu Yao still didn’t believe a single word.
Jian Fanxing understood why Lu Yao doubted her, but she still felt wronged.
“Hmm, my friend says you’re a liar, but I know you’re not.” Jian Fanxing’s fingers moved quickly over the keyboard before she hit send.
Feeling that one sentence wasn’t enough to show her firm belief, she quickly typed another:
“You’re not. No, no, no, no, no…”
A City, He Corporation’s President’s Office
He Qing was listening to her secretary, Lu Feng, report on the results of the cooperation with the Song Corporation when her computer suddenly chimed twice. Lu Feng immediately stopped speaking.
Did he hear that right? That sound just now… wasn’t it from WeChat?
But Ms. He never used WeChat!
“Ms. He?”
Without looking up, He Qing clicked on the WeChat notification while instructing, “Continue.”
“Yes.”
Lu Feng resumed his report, but in the office, He Qing’s cold expression softened slightly as she read the messages from her little friend. The corners of her lips curved up slightly as her slender fingers tapped a few words on the keyboard.
“Little Star is so cute.”
Seeing the reply, Jian Fanxing’s face instantly turned red.
Her sister was so bad! She was talking about something serious, but He Qing was flirting with her instead!
But she couldn’t deny it—those simple words instantly cleared away all the gloom in her heart.
Blushing, she curiously asked, “Sister, aren’t you angry?”
The WeChat chime rang in the office again. Lu Feng paused for a second but didn’t need He Qing to remind him to keep going.
Still, he felt incredibly curious—who was their ice-cold boss chatting with?
She could barely hide her smile!
“Angry? Why would I be angry? Because your friend doubts me? But you believe me.” He Qing replied.
Seeing the response, Jian Fanxing laughed so hard she pounded the table, grinning like an idiot.
Her sister said she wasn’t angry because she believed in her. Did that mean her sister cared about her a lot?
Thinking of this, Jian Fanxing became even happier and quickly replied,
“Of course I believe you! I’m a very good girlfriend! φ(>ω<*)”
“Yes, yes, Little Star is the best.” He Qing responded.
That affectionate tone again…
Jian Fanxing was already melting inside as she typed excitedly, “Sister, you’re also a very good girlfriend! I really want to meet you. I bet you’re super, super beautiful!”
“Oh? So confident?” He Qing raised an eyebrow. Where did this little girl’s blind confidence come from?
“Of course!” Jian Fanxing nodded furiously. “Your voice is so nice, so you must be absolutely gorgeous!”
He Qing couldn’t help but laugh just as Lu Feng finished his report.
She looked up and suddenly asked, “Lu Feng, do you think I’m beautiful?”
Lu Feng: “???”
“Of course, Ms. He! Don’t you know that people in A City call you the most beautiful businesswoman?”
Hearing that, He Qing nodded and muttered to herself, “If that’s the case, then she shouldn’t be disappointed when she sees me, right?”
“Lu Feng, go buy me a house in Xiangxie Riverside.”
