My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 13
He Qing’s voice was firm and powerful, and as she spoke, she felt a rush of excitement surge through her.
Finally, she could say these words in front of others without holding back.
Hmm, it was almost addictive.
“Your person? You two are…?” The man thought of a certain possibility, and his face instantly twisted with disgust. He Qing and Jian Fanxing were indeed beautiful, but their “unconventional” relationship made him feel repulsed. “Ugh, what bad luck—running into two women like that.”
Even though same-gender relationships were legally recognized, some people still viewed them with judgment. He Qing, however, paid no attention to this little interruption.
She was just about to help Jian Fanxing over to Lu Yao when, before she could move, a pair of soft hands cupped her face.
Jian Fanxing, her eyes hazy with drunkenness, stared at He Qing and mumbled, “You said I’m yours? Who even are you?”
“He Qing.”
“He Qing?” The name reached Jian Fanxing’s ears. She froze for a moment, as if trying to recall something. Her dazed eyes made her look even more adorable in He Qing’s eyes. After thinking hard for a while, she furrowed her brows tightly. Then, suddenly, she had a look of realization.
“Ohhh, He Qing! I know her! My ex-girlfriend—she just dumped me, haha…”
A silly smile appeared on Jian Fanxing’s slightly flushed face, as if trying to confirm her role as the fool in her past online relationship.
He Qing felt a sharp pain in her heart.
Jian Fanxing was smiling, but He Qing could see the heartbreak in her eyes.
He Qing’s lips moved slightly, feeling a sudden urge to take back the breakup message she had sent.
She felt like a complete idiot. She must have been out of her mind when she used that cruel method to break things off. She had freed herself without considering how much pain her words would bring the other person.
Watching Jian Fanxing’s foolish smile, He Qing pressed her lips together, her voice low and slightly hoarse, “Stop smiling.”
“If you’re not happy… then don’t force a smile.”
Whether it was because of He Qing’s words or something else, Jian Fanxing’s silly grin disappeared in an instant.
Drunk and unsteady, she suddenly pushed He Qing away with surprising force.
“You… you, who do you think you are to control me?”
“Just because your name is He Qing, you think you have the right to care about me?”
“All women named He Qing are no good! They’re all no good!”
Jian Fanxing swayed unsteadily, her face forming a cold smirk as she spat out her anger.
He Qing staggered back two steps before regaining her balance.
Worried that Jian Fanxing would fall, He Qing quickly stepped forward again, reaching out to support her. But before she could, Jian Fanxing slapped her hand away.
She would rather stumble around in danger than let someone with the same name as her ex-girlfriend get close to her.
He Qing had no choice but to keep a short distance, standing just one step away, watching over Jian Fanxing while listening to her drunken ramblings.
Yes, she should curse her out.
Jian Fanxing had every right to be angry.
After venting for a while, maybe because she had exhausted herself, Jian Fanxing finally quieted down. Without the support of her anger, she lost her balance and fell forward.
He Qing reacted quickly, catching her just in time.
Jian Fanxing curled up in He Qing’s arms, and soon, He Qing heard her muffled sobs.
“Why… why? Big sister, why don’t you want me anymore?”
He Qing held onto her tightly, stopping her from slipping down. She wasn’t sure if she was gripping too hard or if Jian Fanxing was just too heavy, but her lips pressed into a thin line as she struggled to keep her steady.
“I’ll help you,” Lu Yao suddenly spoke up, finally finding a way to make herself useful.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t wanted to help earlier—it was just that He Qing had taken over so quickly.
With He Qing around, Lu Yao felt like she had no role to play as Jian Fanxing’s best friend.
Besides, in Lu Yao’s opinion, her friend was deeply wounded by love. Instead of waiting for her scars to heal slowly, it might be better for her to start a new relationship.
And He Qing, the new neighbor, seemed like the perfect candidate.
Lu Yao was happy to help things along.
He Qing didn’t refuse. “My car is outside.”
With that, the two of them each supported Jian Fanxing from one side, helping her out of the bar toward He Qing’s parked car.
“Fanxing… got dumped today.”
On the way, He Qing remained silent. Lu Yao, disliking the quiet, decided to speak.
He Qing still said nothing.
Of course, she knew Jian Fanxing had been dumped. After all, she was the one who did it.
Seeing that He Qing didn’t respond, Lu Yao thought she hadn’t explained clearly enough, so she continued, “Miss He, you can start chasing her now.”
“You like Fanxing, don’t you?”
“She’s heartbroken right now. This is when she’s at her most vulnerable. If you really want to get close to her, now is the best chance. Don’t miss it, Miss He.”
Lu Yao truly had her friend’s best interests at heart.
Besides, He Qing seemed much more reliable than some online romance.
But as she spoke, Lu Yao suddenly realized something—her words were starting to sound… off.
Why did it feel like she was playing matchmaker?
The feeling grew stronger when she noticed He Qing’s slightly skeptical gaze.
Lu Yao hesitated. “Uh… Did I say something wrong?”
He Qing withdrew her gaze, her voice cool and steady. “No, but I hope Miss Lu won’t say the same thing to anyone else.”
Lu Yao opened her mouth but didn’t speak.
Come on, she wasn’t stupid.
She was only this proactive because He Qing seemed trustworthy.
If He Qing hadn’t seemed reliable, would she have pushed so hard?
Fine, maybe He Qing’s words weren’t the most pleasant, but Lu Yao chose to interpret them as a sign of her care for Jian Fanxing.
Since He Qing was the only one who could drive, Lu Yao helped Jian Fanxing into the back seat.
As soon as they got in, He Qing called Lu Feng.
“Ms. He?”
“Buy me some hangover soup,” He Qing said flatly, eyes fixed on the road.
“Hangover soup? Boss, did you drink?” Lu Feng was surprised. His boss disliked alcohol and only drank when absolutely necessary. If she was drinking, did that mean… heartbreak?
Had she confessed?
Lu Feng suddenly thought of something and asked directly, “Ms. He, you didn’t… say it, did you?”
Say what?
In the backseat, Lu Yao’s eyes flashed with curiosity as she listened to their conversation.
He Qing’s voice turned icy. “Just buy the soup and stop talking nonsense.”
With that, she hung up.
Without Lu Feng’s voice in the car, He Qing’s expression softened ever so slightly.
Good. At least Lu Feng hadn’t said too much.
Through the rearview mirror, she caught sight of Lu Yao’s curious expression.
Clearly, she was very interested in what had just been said.
He Qing thought to herself: I really need to teach Lu Feng when to keep his mouth shut.
Later, when Lu Feng delivered the hangover soup to He Qing’s place, he barely had time to greet her before she slammed the door in his face.
Lu Feng stood outside for a moment before realizing something—his boss wasn’t the one who was drunk.
Then who was?
The answer quickly came to him.
His boss was really something. While others took advantage of drunken moments, she was busy buying soup instead.
Lu Feng shook his head. He needed to adjust his mindset to match his boss’s moral standards.
After confirming that He Qing didn’t need anything else, Lu Feng left.
At Jian Fanxing’s place, He Qing and Lu Yao helped the drunk Jian Fanxing onto the bed.
Watching He Qing handle her as if she were a priceless treasure, Lu Yao started reflecting on herself.
As Fanxing’s close friend, had she been doing enough?
Lu Yao said, “Miss He, let’s sit outside for a bit?”
He Qing wanted to stay in the room so she could take care of Jian Fanxing anytime.
Besides, she simply enjoyed being in the same space as her.
Even just looking at her gave He Qing a rare sense of peace.
But… she wasn’t qualified to stay in this room yet.
Her gaze darkened slightly, and she responded softly, “Mm.”
Back in the living room, they each found a seat—on opposite ends of the room.
Lu Yao: “…”
Lu Yao: “Actually, Miss He, you can go home now.”
He Qing lifted her eyes, a hint of coldness flashing in them. “Are you trying to send me away, Miss Lu?”
Under He Qing’s gaze, Lu Yao felt goosebumps rise on her arms. Was she mad already?
She hadn’t even meant it that way.
She coughed awkwardly and quickly clarified, “Miss He, don’t be in such a rush. I wasn’t finished talking.”
He Qing remained silent but kept looking at her the same way.
Lu Yao: Alright, guess this conversation wasn’t going the way she imagined.
Left with no choice, Lu Yao spoke frankly. “Technically, after helping me bring Fanxing home, you could have left already. But… Miss He, you like Fanxing.”
He Qing frowned slightly.
She had already noticed Lu Yao trying to set her up with Jian Fanxing, but this was the first time she had said it so bluntly.
He Qing asked, “So?”
“So, you can start pursuing her now.” Lu Yao took a deep breath and continued, “Fanxing is heartbroken. She had a girlfriend before, but that woman was a complete scumbag. She hurt Fanxing deeply. They’ve broken up now. If you really like Fanxing, now’s your chance.”
After saying all that in one go, Lu Yao immediately grabbed a glass of water and took a big gulp.
She had nearly run out of breath.
She originally planned to say it slowly, but He Qing’s calm, unhurried attitude—despite clearly caring—was too frustrating.
She just didn’t have He Qing’s patience.
He Qing, the so-called “scumbag” herself: “…”
“I know.”
“But I hope, Miss Lu, you won’t do something like this again… because not everyone is me.”
