My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 17
He Qing finally put down the pen in her hand, raised her hand to press her temples, and said, “It’s still the same issue as last time.”
“Still that issue? Didn’t you already take my advice?” Lu Feng paused, then continued, “Besides, you even showed up at her house last night. Doesn’t that mean your relationship with her has progressed?”
She had already made it through the front door.
“There was progress, but…” He Qing looked troubled. She pressed her lips together and said, “Things have taken a turn for the worse.”
Why did it turn for the worse? A chill ran down Lu Feng’s spine as he quickly asked, “Ms. He, what did you do?”
He Qing thought for a moment and replied, “I… broke up with her.”
Broke up? That was indeed part of the advice Lu Feng had given his boss—to take a step back to move forward. So, he asked, “Then… aside from breaking up?”
He Qing: “That’s it.”
Hearing his boss’s decisive tone, Lu Feng’s face stiffened. “That’s it?”
Seeing Lu Feng’s shocked expression, He Qing raised an eyebrow. “Was there supposed to be more?”
Lu Feng was on the verge of tears. “Ms. He, you didn’t tell her the truth?”
Regarding his boss’s unique love story, Lu Feng had suggested she confess everything. The worst-case scenario would be a breakup, but what did that matter? If they broke up online, she could win her back in real life. But what did his boss do?
She didn’t confess. She just… broke up?
This was classic… player behavior.
Lu Feng could already predict the aftermath without even thinking too hard.
Of course, he didn’t have the guts to call his boss a player to her face. So, he pretended he had never given that advice and asked cautiously, “So, what’s bothering you now, Ms. He?”
He Qing stood up and kicked the chair beside her, looking completely frustrated. “She’s keeping her distance from me now.”
She didn’t even call her “Sister He” anymore. Instead, she used the distant and formal “Miss He.” She even changed the door code to her house. He Qing felt like their relationship was worse than before the breakup.
If she hadn’t known that breaking up was inevitable, she might have considered keeping it a secret forever.
But hiding it for life was exhausting. She worried that if she stayed passionate in real life but distant in their online relationship, it would eventually hurt her little Star.
Most importantly, if she kept pretending to be her online persona, then her real-life self would never be accepted.
Sure, online relationships could turn into real-life ones, but what would happen when Little Star realized her online partner had been living next door all along?
After all, every detail she had shared online was fake. And Little Star had already made it clear—there were consequences for lying to her.
The outcome would be the same, but it wasn’t something He Qing could accept.
Lu Feng thought, *Of course she’s keeping her distance. Who would like someone with the same name as their cheating ex?*
At least not in the next couple of days.
Still, as He Qing’s personal assistant, he had to push aside his inner thoughts and step up as her strategist.
“Ms. He, I suggest you be bold. You need to seize the throne.”
“Seize the throne?”
“Yes.” Lu Feng nodded firmly, clenching his fist for emphasis. “You need to take over the place in her heart that belongs to ‘Online He Qing’ and replace it with ‘He Qing, President of the He Group.’”
He Qing: “…Get out.”
Her face darkened. Lu Feng’s words were useless. Of course, she knew the best way to solve the problem.
The real issue was that she was afraid to get close to Little Star. Every time she did, she remembered how she had hurt her. And every time Little Star cried, she felt guilt and regret.
She couldn’t get past her own guilt.
He Qing pinched the bridge of her nose and waved Lu Feng away. “Forget it. Just go.”
Lu Feng understood and left without pushing his luck.
But after their conversation, He Qing felt a little better and had also figured something out.
Instead of dwelling on the past and being stuck, she should be brave and move forward toward the future.
Like Lu Feng said—be bold.
He Qing’s dark brown eyes flickered as she picked up her phone and sent Lu Feng a message from a newly created WeChat account.
“Find me some strategies on how to win someone over and send them to me before the end of the day.”
She had no experience in pursuing someone, so she needed help. Naturally, her first target was Lu Feng, who already had a girlfriend.
Lu Feng saw the message and, as expected from He Qing, it was direct and confident—just like her. He couldn’t help but admire her unique charm.
“Yes, Ms. He,” Lu Feng quickly replied.
In fact, he was even more enthusiastic about this than He Qing herself.
But since he was just one person and still had work to do, he wouldn’t be able to gather too much information on his own. So, he immediately sent a message to his girlfriend.
“Babe, help me find some ways to win someone over. My boss needs them—urgent.”
After sending the message, Lu Feng put his phone away and got back to work.
Still, every time an employee walked past, he stopped them and asked for their advice on pursuing someone.
An hour later, after stopping over a dozen people, almost half the company knew that the CEO’s secretary had turned into a desperate man, running around asking for dating advice from everyone he met.
That night, when his girlfriend grabbed him by the ear and demanded an explanation, Lu Feng felt like the most wrongly accused man in history.
He Qing got off work and went home. Before entering, she habitually glanced at the apartment across from hers.
The door was tightly shut, and there was no sound from inside. No one was home?!
Where did she go? Did she go to the bar to drink again? He Qing thought as she unlocked her door.
Just as she pushed the door open, the thought of Jian Fanxing at a bar made her stop.
She immediately shut the door and turned to go downstairs.
Even though she knew that if Jian Fanxing really went drinking, Lu Yao would definitely be with her, He Qing still couldn’t relax.
Her steps quickened involuntarily. She was no longer as calm as usual, and her face showed a hint of worry.
“Miss He?”
Just as He Qing reached the bottom of the stairs, she ran straight into Jian Fanxing and Lu Yao.
She looked at the two of them. They were carrying shopping bags, seemingly filled with food.
Standing so close, He Qing could smell the aroma of food drifting from the bags in their hands.
“You… you just went out to buy food?” He Qing asked.
“Yes.” Lu Yao answered before Jian Fanxing could. “Miss He, you were in such a hurry—where were you going?”
“Was it something urgent? That’s too bad. We bought a lot of food, and Fanxing was planning to invite you to eat with us.”
Lu Yao sighed as if it were a pity. He Qing looked at Jian Fanxing, but she didn’t deny Lu Yao’s words. Instead, she said kindly, “Miss He, if you’re busy, go ahead. We can eat together another time.”
“I’m not busy.”
Before Jian Fanxing could finish speaking, He Qing had already responded.
Without making any excuses, He Qing looked directly into Jian Fanxing’s eyes and said, “I was about to go out to find you.”
“I thought… you went to the bar again. I was worried.”
This time, He Qing spoke only to Jian Fanxing.
