My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 20
The night quietly arrived.
Lying on her bed, Jian Fanxing stared at the ceiling, but her thoughts drifted far away.
She didn’t like the dark night.
In the past, nighttime was filled with happiness for her because that was when her sister came home from work. They could chat, and she could listen to her sister’s endless rambling about what she had seen and heard during the day. She would echo her thoughts, share her own opinions, and feel completely understood.
But ever since the breakup, Jian Fanxing no longer liked the night.
Without her sister, the night felt like a dark, gaping monster, swallowing all her happiness.
No one listened to her ramblings anymore. No one understood her joy and sorrow.
It had only been two days, but to Jian Fanxing, it felt like two years.
The phrase “a day feels like a year” had never been so true to her until now.
But tonight, for some reason, the empty night didn’t seem so terrifying.
Her mind kept wandering to another person.
This person had a face—she knew exactly what she looked like. She could hear her voice, which was the same as the one etched into her bones. She was just as considerate, but no longer just words on a screen—she was real, warm, tangible.
It felt like someone she had only ever known through voice messages and text—a person who had expressed love through words alone—had suddenly taken on a physical form.
At that moment, in Jian Fanxing’s heart, her sister and He Qing became the same person.
With this comforting thought, Jian Fanxing drifted into sleep.
And in her dream, her sister truly took on He Qing’s appearance.
Jian Fanxing stood in front of her, crying as she asked why she had broken up with her.
She asked if she had done something wrong, if that was why she was no longer wanted.
The sister—who now looked like He Qing—smiled gently, reached out, and softly ruffled her hair.
Her gaze was filled entirely with affection for her. She didn’t mind her tantrum, and instead, her tone was full of indulgence.
She told her that she had never wanted to break up, never wanted to leave her. She had only chosen to come to her side, to become someone she could see and touch, to truly be with her.
To hold her hand and stay together for a lifetime.
Then she asked her:
“Xiaoxing, would you like to be with me forever? Not just a day, not a month, not a year, but for a lifetime?”
Jian Fanxing was overwhelmed with emotion.
Looking into the deep affection in He Qing’s eyes, she didn’t hesitate at all.
She loudly shouted three words:
“I do!”
“I do!”
Her voice was so loud that Lu Yao, sleeping in the next room, was startled awake.
Thinking something had happened, she rushed into Jian Fanxing’s room—only to see her lying on the bed, eyes shut tight, still in deep sleep.
Yet, in her dream, she was excitedly repeating:
“I do! I do!”
So… she was just dreaming?
Lu Yao let out a sigh of relief and gently nudged her.
“Fanxing, wake up.”
Jian Fanxing frowned in annoyance and opened her eyes.
Seeing Lu Yao, she thought she was still in her dream and grumbled, “Yaoyao, why did you wake me up? My sister was just proposing to me.”
“Proposing?” Lu Yao chuckled. “No wonder you were shouting ‘I do’ so loudly. I could hear it from the next room.”
Glancing outside, she noticed the morning sunlight filtering through the curtains.
So, it was already morning.
Lu Yao said, “Get up now. It’s daytime. You shouldn’t be daydreaming so much.”
“I’m going to wash up and head to work. You should get up too. It’s a nice day—maybe you can go out and take some good photos.”
Jian Fanxing had been running a social media account where she took candid photos of strangers.
Her photography skills were great, and her account had gained a lot of followers.
The only downside was that she had high standards for her subjects, so her output was low.
That’s why when Lu Yao had joked about asking He Qing to model for her, there was actually some sincerity in the suggestion.
After all, in terms of looks and aura, He Qing could easily outshine 70–80% of people.
If He Qing agreed to be photographed, Lu Yao was certain that Jian Fanxing’s account would skyrocket in popularity.
After all, 90% of people in this world were ordinary and loved looking at beautiful things—or beautiful people.
“Alright, you go wash up first,” Jian Fanxing mumbled, still sitting on her bed in a daze.
It wasn’t until she heard the sound of running water from the bathroom that she suddenly covered her face.
Thinking about her dream, she wished she could dig a hole in her bed and hide inside.
Oh no.
How could she dream about He Qing and her sister merging into one person—then using those affectionate eyes to confess to her?
And the worst part?
She had actually accepted!
She had shouted “I do” so loudly that Lu Yao had woken up!
She… ah…
Jian Fanxing let out a deep sigh.
It must be because she had seen He Qing too often these past few days.
That must be why she had such an illusion.
No more.
She needed to control how often she saw He Qing.
Maybe… just once a week.
—
He Qing realized that Xiaoxing was avoiding her again.
For an entire week, she had only “coincidentally” run into Jian Fanxing once.
And even then, it was just a brief moment as they passed each other.
Standing in front of Jian Fanxing’s door, He Qing frowned, holding a box of fresh Australian lobsters she had flown in from overseas.
She had knocked for quite a while, but no one answered.
Yet, she could clearly hear movement inside.
So… was she deliberately ignoring her?
He Qing thought back to their dinner together a week ago.
Since then, she had barely seen Xiaoxing.
And now, even though she was home, she refused to open the door.
It was clear—Xiaoxing was avoiding her again.
But why?
He Qing stood in front of the door, thinking hard but finding no answer.
Inside, Lu Yao looked at her friend, who was frozen on the couch, not making a sound.
She sighed. “Fanxing, you know, you look like someone who has done something wrong and is terrified of getting caught.”
Jian Fanxing pressed her lips together and stayed silent.
Well… wasn’t she guilty?
She had dreamed of He Qing confessing to her, and she had happily accepted.
Even though she no longer had a sister, how could she be so… unreserved?
She was afraid that the moment she saw He Qing, she would remember that dream.
It was just too embarrassing.
At first, she thought that as long as she didn’t see He Qing for a while, she would forget about the dream.
But to her horror, a whole week had passed, and instead of fading, the memory had only become clearer.
She was completely panicking inside.
How could she face He Qing now?
Lu Yao watched her friend’s guilty expression and suddenly had a realization.
She leaned in with a grin.
“Come on, tell me—what exactly did you do to Miss He?”
“I didn’t!” Jian Fanxing said weakly.
Dreams weren’t something she could control, so it wasn’t her fault… right?
“Really?” Lu Yao raised an eyebrow. “Because you look *exactly* like someone who has done something wrong.”
“And honestly, even if you did do something, it wouldn’t be your fault. Miss He is rich, gorgeous, and incredibly attractive. Who wouldn’t fall for her?”
Jian Fanxing hesitated for a long time before whispering, “So… if I liked Miss He, it wouldn’t be weird, right?”
