My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 25
“I haven’t, but when I do interviews, they take some photos for covers and such,” He Qing replied as she walked into the kitchen. “Do you want something to drink? Juice? Coffee? Milk tea?”
“What is Sister He drinking?” Jian Fanxing had planned to flop onto the sofa, but after hearing He Qing’s question, she didn’t hesitate at all and followed her straight into the kitchen.
She had been here before. He Qing’s kitchen was fully equipped, just like the back kitchen of a large hotel—juicers, coffee machines, everything was there. It was only because these were older apartments with spacious kitchens. If it were one of those modern apartment units with L-shaped or U-shaped kitchens, there wouldn’t even be space for all these appliances.
He Qing said, “Coffee. What about you?”
“Juice,” Jian Fanxing answered. Then, she walked toward the coffee machine, smiling. “How about I make coffee for you, Sister He?”
“Sure, then I’ll make juice for you?” He Qing said, walking over to the fridge. She picked out two of the biggest oranges and headed to the juicer.
Jian Fanxing watched He Qing carefully peeling the oranges, feeling a sweet warmth in her heart.
At that moment, she had only one thought: Sister He is making juice for me personally.
So this is the difference between an online relationship and real life?
Even the smallest, simplest act—if you want to do something for the other person, you can do it right away. And even if it’s something trivial, it can still bring happiness and sweetness.
The two of them each focused on their own tasks. Even though they hadn’t officially confessed to each other, it felt as if they had been in love for years.
“It’s done,” He Qing said as the juicer stopped.
“I’m done too,” Jian Fanxing carefully carried the freshly made coffee to He Qing, her face lit up with a bright smile.
Looking at the juice in He Qing’s hands, she suddenly had an idea, like playing a game. She said in a playful tone, “Sister He, I want to drink juice. Can I trade my coffee with you?”
Jian Fanxing blinked at He Qing, eyes full of anticipation.
He Qing smiled and handed her the juice while reaching for the coffee. “Of course.”
She took a sip of the coffee. Maybe it was because of the emotions behind it, but He Qing found this to be the best cup of coffee she had ever had.
Noticing Jian Fanxing staring at her nervously, as if waiting for her reaction, He Qing’s lips curved slightly. In her cool voice, there was an unexpected warmth.
“This coffee is amazing. The best I’ve ever had. But Little Star, now that I’ve tasted the best coffee in the world, what if I can’t drink any other coffee anymore?”
You’ll have to take responsibility for me—He Qing silently added the words in her heart.
But in the end, she held back, worried that she might scare Jian Fanxing.
Jian Fanxing wasn’t clueless—how could she not understand the deeper meaning behind He Qing’s words, even if they sounded like a joke?
She bit her lip. For a moment, she almost blurted out that she would make coffee for He Qing for a lifetime. But remembering the confession she had carefully prepared, she forced herself to hold back.
She took a big sip of juice to calm herself down, then spoke slowly, “Sister He, your juice is delicious too.”
He Qing froze for a second. Was this… a rejection? Or did Little Star just not understand?
Even after she finished her coffee, Jian Fanxing drank all the juice, and the sound of the door closing echoed in the quiet apartment, He Qing still hadn’t figured out the answer.
She stared out into the dark night through the window, lost in thought.
Was it a rejection?
Her brows furrowed tightly as she thought about it for a long time, but she couldn’t come up with a clear answer.
Finally, she absentmindedly played with her phone and ended up dialing Lu Feng’s number.
“Miss He, can we talk about how you always call me in the middle of the night?” Lu Feng answered, his voice carrying a hint of grievance… and was that heavy breathing?
Being He Qing’s assistant wasn’t easy. Even in certain situations, he had to take her calls.
If this kept happening, he was afraid he’d develop a dysfunction, and then what? If his girlfriend left him, who was he supposed to cry to?
He Qing, though single and inexperienced, wasn’t completely oblivious. After a brief silence, she said, “Sorry. I’ll call back in thirty minutes.”
“Thirty minutes?!” Lu Feng nearly exploded.
Was she implying he could only last that long?!
“Wait, don’t hang up!” Lu Feng quickly reassured his girlfriend with a kiss, then literally bowed to her before getting out of bed to take the call.
“Miss He, you’re calling at this hour… did you hit another emotional roadblock?” He was blunt, but after working with He Qing for so long, he knew her too well.
She had never once called him late at night before. But ever since she met her online romance in person, it had become a frequent occurrence. And every time, it was because she had run into some issue with her feelings.
He Qing didn’t deny it. Lu Feng already knew everything about her anyway.
She explained her problem, then waited for his response.
“So, Miss He, you’re stressing over something you didn’t even say out loud?” Lu Feng was on the verge of losing it.
“Why not just ask her directly?”
He Qing hesitated. “I’m afraid I’ll scare her.”
“But you’re scaring me!” Lu Feng wanted to cry. Clearly, the one who mattered was Little Star. His feelings as an assistant didn’t count at all.
After whining for a bit, he got serious again. “Miss He, your problem has a simple solution. Just ask directly.”
“Just ask?” He Qing frowned. She had thought about that before. And she had a strong feeling that Little Star… probably wasn’t rejecting her. But what if she was wrong?
He Qing disliked uncertainty. It made her feel anxious. She preferred knowing things for sure.
“Yes! Just ask!” Lu Feng insisted. “No matter the outcome, at least you won’t have to keep overthinking. And what if the answer is a good one?!”
“But it could be a bad answer,” He Qing countered rationally.
Lu Feng: “…”
He used to think that He Qing’s habit of analyzing everything from all angles was a good trait—something worth learning.
But right now? He hated it.
Why was she so decisive and fearless in the business world but so hesitant when it came to love?
Lu Feng took a deep breath. As an assistant, he shouldn’t be this emotionally invested. He repeated to himself three times that He Qing was his boss, then finally regained his composure.
“Miss He, listen. Even if the answer isn’t what you want, so what? Our language has a phrase called ‘persistent pursuit.’ And there’s a saying—‘Even the toughest woman can be won over by persistence.’ If she doesn’t like you yet, then use all your charm and skills to make her fall for you!”
“Besides, with your status and looks, who could possibly reject you?”
He Qing probably didn’t know this, but she was ranked as the top person in the city that both men and women wanted to date.
There was no way she would fail at winning someone’s heart.
Not unless fate itself was embarrassed to see her succeed.
Lu Feng’s words finally eased He Qing’s worries.
