My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 27
“I… investigated you.”
After hearing those words, Jian Fanxing was completely stunned.
He Qing looked at Jian Fanxing, her heart pounding, her whole body tense.
Knowing that she had once been Jian Fanxing’s online lover, He Qing wasn’t confident that she could hide it forever. So after thinking about it for a long time last night, she decided to confess gradually.
This was her way of testing the waters.
She had no idea how Jian Fanxing would react to learning about the investigation. If she got angry, He Qing thought, she would have to delay or even abandon her confession plan.
As Jian Fanxing remained silent, He Qing’s heart sank. So she really did mind being investigated? Understandable—who would like such an intrusive act?
He Qing had no idea what would happen next, so she stayed silent along with Jian Fanxing.
Of course, Jian Fanxing wasn’t happy about being investigated. But looking at He Qing’s obviously troubled expression, her anger quickly dissipated.
She preferred seeing He Qing smile. Besides, wasn’t He Qing some kind of executive? Business was like war; she must have had her reasons for investigating her, right?
“What exactly did you investigate? My personality? My relationship history? Or… my measurements?” Jian Fanxing finally spoke, deliberately teasing.
She tilted her head and looked at He Qing. Once her anger faded, curiosity took its place.
She had only ever seen the word “investigation” in textbooks, but now she was personally experiencing it. So what did an investigation typically include?
He Qing hadn’t expected Jian Fanxing to ask about the details instead of angrily breaking up with her.
Relieved, she smiled. “Everything you just mentioned. But I think one part must be inaccurate.”
“Which one?”
“Your measurements.” He Qing replied seriously, “The investigators only estimated with their eyes, so the numbers are probably off.”
Jian Fanxing nodded in agreement. Then, leaning in close, she playfully asked, “Then… does my dear sister want to measure them herself?”
He Qing’s heart skipped a beat. Feeling Jian Fanxing’s breath on her face, her palms became slightly sweaty. For a moment, her brain seemed to shut down, and she foolishly asked, “How would I measure them?”
“With your hands.” Jian Fanxing guided He Qing’s hand to her waist.
Bust, waist, and hips—those were the three measurements. She wasn’t bold enough for the other two, but the waist? Well, He Qing had already hugged her before.
Jian Fanxing was actually extremely nervous. She just wanted to cheer He Qing up, but somehow, she had ended up flirting with her?
Would He Qing think she was too forward?
As Jian Fanxing placed He Qing’s hand on her waist, He Qing’s breathing deepened. It was just a simple hug, yet she felt inexplicably nervous.
Jian Fanxing noticed that He Qing’s hand remained still and burst into laughter.
“Sister, do you really not want to hug me?” She kept He Qing’s hand exactly where she had placed it, erasing any nervousness she had felt earlier.
Looking at He Qing’s overly serious expression—like a teacher overseeing an exam—Jian Fanxing found it… kind of cute?!
She tilted her head and, unable to help herself, acted coquettishly.
He Qing finally moved, pulling Jian Fanxing into a hug, as if answering her question.
Just a simple hug, but feeling Jian Fanxing’s softness in her arms, He Qing didn’t want to let go.
“Can I… hold you like this forever?” He Qing couldn’t help but ask.
“Of course. I’m your girlfriend, aren’t I?” Jian Fanxing felt like she wasn’t doing a great job as a girlfriend.
Wasn’t a girlfriend meant to be hugged and kissed?
Besides, she really liked this kind of closeness.
He Qing didn’t respond, just tightened her embrace, feeling much more relaxed than before.
Now that she was sure Jian Fanxing wasn’t going to break up with her, He Qing thought about the investigation again.
“Little Star, you’re really not mad about me investigating you?” He Qing couldn’t help but ask. If the situation were reversed, she wasn’t sure she’d be as forgiving.
“I was mad. Didn’t you see me go silent just now?” Jian Fanxing said, nestled in He Qing’s arms.
“But it’s not that big of a deal. You must have had your reasons—maybe you just wanted to woo me better?” Jian Fanxing blushed as she spoke. Was she being too full of herself?
“Besides, you told me about it yourself instead of keeping it a secret. That means you care about me, right? Otherwise, what do you think I should do?”
“Break up with you over this?” Jane Fanxing sighed. “That would be an overreaction. Besides, I just got my girlfriend—I haven’t even had enough time to enjoy being with you.”
“But don’t do it again.” Jane Fanxing’s expression turned serious.
In love, even well-intentioned lies shouldn’t be repeated. She hoped Harold Qing would never investigate her again.
He Qing’s lowered eyes flickered. She had just relaxed, but now she tensed up again.
Jian Fanxing had said “don’t do it again”… but there would be a next time.
“Sister, why are you silent now?” Jane Fanxing noticed Harold Qing’s absentminded look.
She even looked a little sad?!
Jane Fanxing blinked and hesitated before asking, “Did you… investigate more than just me?”
He Qing opened her mouth, wanting to explain, but the words stuck in her throat.
She wanted to come up with an excuse, but Jian Fanxing’s clear, trusting eyes and her earlier words echoed in her mind. She couldn’t bring herself to lie.
He Qing’s silence was an answer in itself.
Jian Fanxing fell silent, too.
She could forgive He Qing for investigating her because it didn’t harm her directly. But doing it twice? That left an uneasy feeling in her heart.
“Why?” Jian Fanxing asked, looking straight into He Qing’s eyes.
The warmth from earlier had vanished. Her gaze was calm and rational.
If He Qing’s answer didn’t satisfy her, she was prepared to walk away from this relationship.
It was a pity—it had only just begun.
“Because I like you.” He Qing answered honestly. But was liking someone a good enough excuse to repeatedly cross their boundaries?
Because she liked her? Jian Fanxing sighed in relief. At least she was willing to listen further.
“So… besides investigating me, what else did you do?”
“One chance, sister. I won’t give you a second.”
He Qing looked at Jian Fanxing’s serious expression. From the moment she met her, she knew that despite Jian Fanxing’s sunny and kind demeanor, she had her own principles and bottom lines. If she didn’t take this opportunity to be honest, she might never get another chance.
He Qing made her decision.
“I… was already your girlfriend.”
Saying those words took all her strength. But once they were out, she realized that confessing wasn’t as difficult as she’d thought.
Without looking at Jian Fanxing, she gazed at the nearby field of rapeseed flowers where they had just been playing and finally told her story.
“Seven years ago, I met a girl online. She was beautiful and loved to smile. To me, she was like the sun, brightening my dark life the moment she appeared. So when she said we could be friends, I agreed. We started as ordinary friends, chatting often. No matter how busy I was, I would always reply to her messages immediately.
Over time, I realized I didn’t see her as just a friend—I had fallen for her. I wanted her to be my girlfriend. I was afraid she might reject me or even hate me for my feelings, but I gathered my courage and confessed. To my surprise, she said yes. We became the closest two people in the world.
Three years passed like this. She suggested meeting in person several times, but I always refused. I was afraid I wouldn’t meet her expectations, and I was also scared that she might not be the same as the person I knew online. So, I secretly had someone investigate her. The results were exactly the same as the girl I had known for the past seven years. It turned out… these seven years were not just a dream.”
“After I refused to meet her the first time, she never brought it up again. But after confirming that she was exactly as I knew her, I actually wanted to see her. ”
“So, I asked my assistant to find me a house… near where she lived. ”
“So you approached me as my new neighbor? Why didn’t you tell me from the start that you were my online boyfriend?” Jian Fanxing interrupted He Qing’s story. Everyone already knew what happened after that, so there was no need to say more.
Jian Fanxing’s expression was not good. She stared at He Qing, her eyes turning red and watery. She thought she could remain calm no matter what He Qing said, but she never expected the story to be like this.
Tears finally rolled down her cheeks. She looked at He Qing, trying to suppress her trembling heart. She continued questioning her, “Then why did you still break up with me?”
“Because…”
“Because you thought that only by ending our online relationship could you be with me in reality? Because you didn’t want people to know that you were actually a liar in love?” Jian Fanxing interrupted He Qing again. She spoke every word with precision, and what she said was exactly what He Qing had thought deep inside.
He Qing was speechless. Watching Jian Fanxing’s tears fall, she felt a sharp pain in her chest. She reached out, wanting to wipe them away, but before she could touch her, Jian Fanxing slapped her hand away.
Jian Fanxing’s eyes were filled with anger and disappointment. She just stared at her. When He Qing didn’t know what to do, she finally said, “He Qing, are you so sure that after breaking up, I would still fall for you? Are you so sure that saying goodbye to me wouldn’t hurt you?”
“He Qing, are you satisfied with how I acted after our breakup?”
After saying that, Jian Fanxing stood up, grabbed her camera, and turned to leave.
“Little Star…” He Qing quickly stood up and grabbed her, looking at the furious Jian Fanxing nervously. “Where are you going?”
Jian Fanxing sneered, “Where I go is none of Miss He’s concern.”
With that, she shook off He Qing’s hand and walked straight ahead.
The distant way she addressed her as “Miss He” made He Qing freeze in place. She watched Jian Fanxing’s determined back and hesitated to take a step forward.
Even if she chased after her now… she wouldn’t care anymore, right?
He Qing just stood there, staring blankly at Jian Fanxing’s fading figure, feeling like she couldn’t breathe. Had she really lost her?
Jian Fanxing walked from the flower field to the roadside and waved down a taxi. Before getting in, she glanced back—He Qing’s car was parked not far away, keeping a certain distance.
Inside the car, noticing Jian Fanxing’s gaze, He Qing instinctively looked away. Little Star… probably doesn’t want to see me anymore, right?
Through the windshield, Jian Fanxing saw He Qing’s reaction and smirked coldly. The next second, she got into the car.
By the time He Qing looked back, the taxi was already gone.
Little Star… is gone?!
He Qing gripped the steering wheel, staring blankly ahead. She didn’t know how much time had passed until her phone suddenly rang.
“Miss He, how was your date with your girlfriend today?” Lu Feng’s teasing voice came through the phone as soon as the call connected.
Lu Feng was the only one who knew that President He had taken the day off for this.
Normally, he wouldn’t dare ask about other things, but when it came to his boss’s love life, Lu Feng thought he had some special privileges.
However, after waiting a while, he didn’t get an answer.
“Miss He? Miss He?” Lu Feng called out again. “Are you there?”
There was only silence in response, aside from the sound of steady breathing.
“Miss He… don’t tell me something went wrong with your date?” Lu Feng asked cautiously.
This time, he didn’t have to wait long.
He Qing’s deep voice finally came through, “I told her.”
“What?”
“Everything. I told her everything.”
He Qing repeated herself, staring at the endless road ahead. It was so long that she couldn’t see where it led—just like her relationship with Little Star. It seemed like… she couldn’t see a future anymore.
