My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 30
“This…” Lu Feng was in a difficult position. Right now, he was several kilometers away from Miss He. Even if he could fly, there was no way he could hand the phone to her immediately. Left with no choice, Lu Feng had to tell the truth: “Old Mr. He, Miss He is… resting today.”
“Resting?” He Jun was stunned. Ever since his daughter took over He Corporation, she had become like a machine. Unless she was so sick that she couldn’t get out of bed, she was always busy at the company. When had he ever heard of her taking a day off?
His expression turned serious, and he asked sternly, “Did something big happen at He Corporation? Are you and He Qing hiding it from me, afraid I can’t handle it?”
His daughter had a bad habit—she only shared good news, never bad. Even if the sky were falling, she would try to hold it up herself. He just assumed this was the case again.
“No, Old Mr. He, don’t worry. The company is fine, and Miss He is fine too. She really is just taking a simple day off.” Knowing that He Jun was overthinking, Lu Feng quickly reassured him.
After the company nearly went bankrupt, his beloved wife passed away, and his precious daughter was forced to grow up overnight, He Jun’s health had deteriorated rapidly, even though he was still alive. Boss He had said that anything that might affect his health should be handled carefully in front of him.
He Jun didn’t believe it. “Then tell me, where did He Qing go?”
“Don’t tell me she’s at home. I’m at her place right now, and there’s no one here. It looks like no one has lived here for a long time.”
Lu Feng: Well, so much for using the ‘she’s at home’ excuse.
As for being at a friend’s house? Old Mr. He knew his daughter better than anyone. Even though she had a wide social circle, she had never truly opened her heart to anyone. Staying at a friend’s house was even more unlikely.
Boss He, I really have no choice but to tell the truth. Lu Feng took a deep breath and then said, “Old Mr. He, Boss He moved out. She doesn’t live here anymore.”
He Jun: “Address.”
Lu Feng: “Xiangxie Riverside, Building 1, Unit 3, Apartment 302.”
He just grunted in acknowledgment and hung up.
The moment the call ended, Lu Feng quickly tried to call his boss, but whether it was because her phone was dead or for some other reason, the call didn’t go through.
Great. Looks like I’ll have to go to the company tomorrow and beg for forgiveness. Lu Feng felt hopeless.
He knew how traditional and strict Old Mr. He was. If he found out his daughter was dating a woman… that would be a disaster.
After reserving the restaurant, He Qing went out with Jian Fanxing.
As soon as they stepped outside, He Qing grabbed Jian Fanxing’s hand without hesitation, as if she couldn’t wait another second.
Jian Fanxing looked at their intertwined fingers, feeling sweet inside. She smiled at He Qing. “Sister, I’m not a kid anymore. You don’t have to worry about me getting lost.”
He Qing raised an eyebrow, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. “You’re a little friend.”
Seeing Jian Fanxing’s puzzled look, He Qing patiently explained, “Not a child, but still a little friend.”
“You’re seven years younger than me.”
So, of course, she had to hold her hand carefully. If she got lost, where would He Qing find another identical little friend to be her girlfriend?
Jian Fanxing enjoyed being spoiled, but she still wanted to correct He Qing’s thinking.
“Sister, I’m not a little friend anymore. I’m twenty-five years old—I’ve grown up.”
He Qing responded with a soft “mm,” not arguing. But in her heart, she added: You’re still my little friend.
Noticing He Qing’s dismissive attitude, Jian Fanxing stomped her foot in frustration. “Sister! I’ve really grown up! I can do anything you can do!”
“Oh?” He Qing looked at the slightly annoyed Jian Fanxing and played along. “Like what?”
Like… like… Jian Fanxing thought for a moment and blurted out, “Like getting married!”
The moment she said it, she wanted to dig a hole and hide in it. Ahhh! What did I just say?!
What kind of statement was that? Did it make her seem desperate to get married?
“Um… Sister, what I meant was…” Jian Fanxing wanted to explain, but no matter how hard she thought, she couldn’t find a suitable excuse.
She hung her head in frustration. She had just wanted to prove she was an adult, but instead, she ended up sounding childish.
“Getting married…” The words echoed in He Qing’s mind like thunder. When she snapped out of it, she looked at Jian Fanxing with a particularly gentle smile. “Yes, Little Star is right. Twenty-five is well past the legal age for marriage. You can get married.”
“Then, Little Star, your marriage partner can be—”
Before she could finish the sentence, Jian Fanxing had already pulled her hand away and ran toward He Qing’s car.
Her face was burning red—whether from running or from embarrassment, she wasn’t sure. Her heart was pounding so loudly that she was afraid He Qing might hear it.
Sister is too much! Who proposes on the first day of dating?!
Wasn’t she just trying to scare her?
He Qing stood in place for a few seconds before chasing after her. Seeing Jian Fanxing gasping for breath beside the car, waiting for her, He Qing felt full of regret.
What was I thinking?
She had scared her little star.
And she had almost made a marriage proposal sound like a joke. Seriously… He Qing was frustrated with herself.
Once inside the car, neither of them spoke much. He Qing focused on driving, while Jian Fanxing stared absentmindedly out the window.
When the car stopped, Jian Fanxing finally snapped out of her daze.
“We’re here already?” Her eyes were still a little unfocused.
Seeing her adorable expression, He Qing reached out and ruffled her hair, her voice gentle. “Mm, we’re here.”
“Let’s get out.”
He Qing unfastened Jian Fanxing’s seatbelt, got out first, and opened the car door for her.
Being taken care of like a delicate porcelain doll, Jian Fanxing blinked. So, Sister’s attentiveness is real…
It wasn’t just for show during their online chats to leave a good impression.
The moment they stepped out of the car, He Qing firmly took Jian Fanxing’s hand again. When it came to this, she was always a little possessive.
They entered the elevator and arrived at the restaurant. Along the way, some people gave them curious glances. The restaurant staff, in particular, seemed surprised when they realized they had booked a candlelight dinner.
Feeling the odd stares, Jian Fanxing tried to pull her hand away several times but failed.
When the waiter left, leaving only the two of them in the private space, Jian Fanxing finally asked, “Sister, aren’t you afraid?”
He Qing knew what she meant. Instead of answering immediately, she asked, “Are you afraid?”
Jian Fanxing thought for a moment, then shook her head. “No.”
“I’m holding the hand of the person I like and having dinner with them. What is there to be afraid of?”
If she were scared, she wouldn’t have agreed to be He Qing’s online girlfriend in the first place.
Her words touched He Qing’s heart, making it soft.
“You’re not afraid, and I’m older than you. Why would I be?”
They had already faced far worse things in life. Why fear some gossip?
Jian Fanxing smiled brightly. “Sister, you’re the best.”
He Qing also smiled. She looked at the person sitting across from her. When the steak arrived, she thoughtfully cut it into pieces and pushed the plate in front of Jian Fanxing.
“That’s it? Then you should be ready because it will only get better from now on,” He Qing said.
Jian Fanxing nodded and sighed, “I feel like I have fallen into a lucky place.”
“Oh right, big sister, we haven’t finished taking pictures today. We only took one set,” Jian Fanxing said. At the time, she didn’t think much of it, but now she felt a little regretful. Not just about the photos, but also that their first date didn’t end in the best way.
“Yeah, it’s a pity,” He Qing agreed and thought for a moment. The set they didn’t take was the one with suits, so she suggested, “Little Star, didn’t you say you wanted to visit my company before? Why don’t you come with me tomorrow? Bring your camera, and we can take pictures in my office.”
He Qing made the decision right away. Jian Fanxing did not refuse because she really wanted to see He Qing’s company.
Even though today was their first day as an official couple, Jian Fanxing already had the urge to go to He Qing’s workplace and claim her territory.
After dinner, they got in the car. He Qing asked if Jian Fanxing wanted to go anywhere else, but Jian Fanxing shook her head.
“No, big sister, let’s just go home. I’m a bit tired,” she said.
Today had been such a dramatic day, and she really felt exhausted.
Since He Qing always listened to her girlfriend, she nodded. If Jian Fanxing wanted to go home, then home it was.
At Xiangxie Riverside, Building 1, Unit 3, Apartment 301–
He Qing got out of the car as usual and held Jian Fanxing’s hand. Jian Fanxing didn’t resist, so the two of them walked upstairs hand in hand.
Jian Fanxing walked a little faster than He Qing, so she was the first to see the elderly man leaning on a cane against He Qing’s apartment door.
“Big sister, you have a guest,” Jian Fanxing turned her head and said.
A guest? He Qing looked up and saw the person Jian Fanxing was talking about. She raised an eyebrow.
“Dad? What are you doing here?”
“If I didn’t come, I wouldn’t have known that you left a perfectly good villa just to live in this place,” He Jun said with a cold snort. His sharp gaze fell on Jian Fanxing.
When He Qing called him “Dad,” Jian Fanxing was stunned. As He Jun’s eyes landed on her, she instinctively tried to pull her hand away from He Qing’s.
She had never asked her big sister how her family felt about her liking women.
But from what He Jun just said, he didn’t seem happy that He Qing had moved here.
Jian Fanxing shrank her neck slightly, and for a moment, a strange feeling of insecurity filled her heart.
