My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 36
Jian Fanxing didn’t say anything. She lowered her head and silently followed Lu Feng like a puppet as they walked toward the break room.
Lu Feng felt uneasy. He glanced at Jian Fanxing, who remained silent, unsure if his words earlier had comforted her.
His boss was really unlucky. She finally got a girlfriend and brought her to the company to show off a little, but that crazy admirer showed up at the same time. He just hoped his boss’s girlfriend wouldn’t be scared away by Miss Gu’s antics.
When they reached the break room, Lu Feng poured a glass of water for Jian Fanxing and was about to sit down with her when she finally spoke.
“You can go back to work. You don’t have to stay with me.”
Meeting Lu Feng’s concerned gaze, Jian Fanxing smiled. “Don’t worry, I won’t overthink things.”
“Well… okay then. Miss Jian, you can rest here for now. I’ll come get you once Miss He is done.” Lu Feng hesitated for a few seconds before agreeing. He had taken a day off yesterday, so there was a lot of work piled up. But more importantly, his office was close enough to hear any commotion from Miss He’s office. If necessary, he could rush in to save her from any awkward situations. That was where his role as a secretary truly showed its value.
After Lu Feng left, Jian Fanxing sat on the sofa in a daze for a couple of minutes before silently picking up her camera to look through the pictures she had taken of He Qing the day before.
CEO’s Office
As soon as He Qing entered the room, someone clung to her arm. Gu Xiao threw herself onto He Qing, practically hanging off her.
“He Qing! You’re here! Where were you yesterday? I came looking for you, but your employees said you were on leave. Why didn’t you take me with you? Also, did you block my number? Every time I called, it was busy!” Gu Xiao pouted angrily, but her eyes were full of expectation, waiting to be comforted.
However, after waiting for a while, He Qing didn’t say anything to soothe her. Although she allowed Gu Xiao to hold onto her arm, she didn’t even spare her a glance.
A hint of disappointment flashed in Gu Xiao’s eyes. He Qing really was a tough one. She had been chasing her for so long, yet He Qing still treated her with the same cold indifference as when they first met.
But the disappointment quickly disappeared, replaced by unwavering confidence. So what if she was hard to get? As long as He Qing was still single, she would keep pursuing her. Gu Xiao was patient.
As for the possibility of He Qing being in a relationship… Gu Xiao refused to believe it. Even if He Qing had a girlfriend, she would find a way to break them up.
He Qing belonged to her and only her.
He Qing didn’t answer Gu Xiao’s questions. There was no need to explain her schedule to her.
She simply looked at Gu Xiao’s arm. In the past, she had rejected Gu Xiao’s advances many times, but Gu Xiao was like sticky candy—no matter how many times she told her no, it never made a difference. Eventually, He Qing got tired of arguing with her. But now…
“Let go.” He Qing’s face was expressionless.
“No.” Gu Xiao froze for a second before answering firmly.
She hugged He Qing’s arm even tighter and pouted. “He Qing, you never told me to let go before. Are you starting to dislike me?”
“Even if you do, it doesn’t matter. He Qing, I told you, you’re mine. What’s wrong with me holding my own person?”
Gu Xiao wasn’t oblivious to He Qing’s feelings. She knew that if she ever showed weakness, He Qing would cut her off without hesitation.
Besides, when she heard the rumors about He Qing dating someone, she panicked.
She was afraid that if she let go, He Qing would end up belonging to someone else.
She had been chasing He Qing for so long—there was no way she would let that happen.
“He Qing…” Looking at Gu Xiao’s unreasonable behavior, He Qing frowned. She knew she shouldn’t tolerate this any longer. It was time to set things straight.
But just as He Qing was about to speak, Gu Xiao suddenly let go, grabbed her bag, and ran toward the door.
“Qingqing, I just remembered I have something urgent to do! I’ll see you tomorrow!”
She turned back and winked with a playful smile. “Don’t forget to miss me! Mwah~”
Blowing a kiss at He Qing, she quickly shut the office door behind her.
The moment the door closed, Gu Xiao’s smile disappeared. Her expression turned cold as she spotted Lu Feng nearby and curled her finger at him.
“Lu, come here.”
Even his own boss dreaded dealing with Miss Gu, so how could Lu Feng not be afraid?
He quickly walked over, plastering a polite smile on his face. “Miss Gu, what can I do for you?”
“Who is your boss’s girlfriend? What’s her name? Where does she work? Where does she live?”
Gu Xiao’s eyes narrowed as she fired off one question after another, making Lu Feng’s heart race in fear.
What does Miss Gu want to do with this information? Is she planning to cause trouble?
Lu Feng said, “Miss Gu, what are you talking about? Our Miss He doesn’t have a girlfriend. She’s always been single.”
He had to protect Miss Jian.
“Really?” Gu Xiao smiled, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes. It sent a chill down Lu Feng’s spine.
She didn’t believe him at all.
Lu Feng felt sweat forming on his back, but he forced himself to stay calm and nodded firmly. “Of course. You know what kind of person Miss He is, right? She’s so cold and always keeps people at a distance. Who would dare to like her? Only you, Miss Gu, have been so persistent. Don’t you think so?”
Gu Xiao didn’t respond. Instead, she spun her phone in her hand as if she was considering whether Lu Feng’s words were true.
After a long pause, she finally smiled with confidence. “You’re right. I’m the only one who’s special to Qingqing. That means the rumors about her dating someone must be false.”
“I heard this rumor came from Uncle He. Hmm, I should find time to visit him.”
Gu Xiao spoke to herself, then turned and left in her high heels without paying Lu Feng any more attention.
However, as she passed the break room, she stopped. She looked inside and saw Jian Fanxing sitting there. Raising her chin slightly, she asked Lu Feng, “Who is she?”
“She… she is a photographer Miss He hired to take work photos. See? She’s holding a camera.” Lu Feng’s heart pounded as he forced himself to stay calm and explain.
“Oh, a photographer.” Gu Xiao responded indifferently but then stared at Jian Fanxing in silence.
After a while, she spoke again.
“What’s her name? How are her photos?”
Lu Feng was about to answer when Gu Xiao interrupted herself.
“What a silly question. If Qingqing hired her personally, her photos must be good.”
“Lu Feng, you have this lady’s contact, right? Give it to me. I’d like to hire her too.”
“Huh? This…?” Lu Feng was shocked.
Should he give Miss Gu Jian Fanxing’s contact or not?
But before he could decide, Gu Xiao assumed he didn’t have it and started walking toward the break room herself.
“Miss Gu, what are you doing?” Lu Feng quickly stepped in front of her.
“You don’t have her contact, so I’ll ask her myself.” Gu Xiao smiled at him— a dangerous smile. She looked straight at him and asked, “Secretary Lu, who is this lady? You just said she’s a photographer Miss He hired. You’re not lying to me, are you? Or is she actually…”
Lu Feng’s heart nearly stopped. Had Miss Gu figured out Jian Fanxing’s real identity?
What should he do? Inform Miss He immediately, or try to protect Miss Jian first? What if Miss Gu lost her temper and caused a scene?
“Miss Gu—”
“She’s your girlfriend, right?” Gu Xiao finally finished her sentence.
She patted Lu Feng on the shoulder and grinned. “I didn’t know you had a girlfriend. Good taste! She’s pretty and has a great figure. She suits you well.”
“I was going to get to know her, but since you’re so protective, I’ll pass.” Gu Xiao shook her head as if she were disappointed, then waved her hand casually. “Secretary Lu, I’ll be going now. When you two get married, don’t forget to send me an invitation. I’ll bring a gift.”
Lu Feng personally escorted Gu Xiao into the elevator and watched it go down to the first floor before returning to He Qing’s office.
“Miss He, Miss Gu has left,” Lu Feng reported respectfully.
He Qing responded softly, then asked, “Where’s Little Star? Bring her in.”
“Yes.” Lu Feng nodded, hesitated for a moment, then decided to be honest. “Miss He, Miss Gu saw Miss Jian before she left… and she mistook her for my girlfriend.”
“Your girlfriend?” He Qing’s gaze turned sharp. Even though she knew it wasn’t true, she didn’t like hearing those words.
Lu Feng felt miserable and quickly explained everything that had happened.
After listening, He Qing fell into deep thought. She understood that Lu Feng was trying to protect Little Star, but the fact that her own girlfriend had to endure such a misunderstanding didn’t sit well with her.
However, Gu Xiao was unpredictable. Lu Feng’s concerns weren’t wrong.
It seemed she needed to deal with this trouble soon. Little Star shouldn’t have to go through this again—she wouldn’t allow it.
“Miss He?”
“You go back to work. I’ll go see Little Star.” He Qing stood up and left the office.
Break Room
Jian Fanxing’s fingers flipped through her photos absentmindedly, but her mind was elsewhere.
She didn’t even notice when He Qing entered.
“Little Star, what are you thinking about?”
Hearing the voice, Jian Fanxing instinctively looked up and met He Qing’s warm gaze.
“Qingqing… Miss Gu…” Jian Fanxing was drawn into He Qing’s tenderness, but the name “Miss Gu” kept circling in her mind.
“Qingqing, can you tell me… what kind of person Miss Gu is?”
