My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 45
Jian Fanxing clenched her fists tightly. She looked at Gu Xiao, holding back the urge to punch her again and again. She stared at Gu Xiao and spoke:
“So, Miss Gu, you didn’t actually invite me here for a photoshoot. Instead, you just wanted to mock and criticize me?”
“If that’s the case, then sorry, I’m busy. I’ll be leaving now.”
As she spoke, Jian Fanxing grabbed Lu Yao, ready to leave.
Lu Yao stood up immediately, standing firmly by her friend’s side.
At first, she had a good impression of Gu Xiao because Gu Xiao was exactly the type of confident woman she admired. But after hearing everything she said, all of that good impression was gone.
What’s the use of being pretty? If the words coming out of her mouth were so harsh?
And on top of that, this woman was trying to take her friend’s girlfriend?!
“Miss Gu, have you ever heard the saying, ‘A twisted melon is never sweet’? If Miss He really liked you, she would have already been with you. Do you really think Fanxing would even have a chance? And yet, here you are, trying to use harsh words to drive a wedge between Fanxing and Miss He. Don’t you think that’s a bit too low?” Lu Yao said angrily. She grabbed Jian Fanxing’s hand and pulled her along. “Fanxing, let’s go. No matter how good her photos are, her heart is still rotten.”
Jian Fanxing let Lu Yao pull her away. Gu Xiao didn’t chase after them; she just stared at Lu Yao’s retreating figure in a daze.
Ever since she was young, she had always been pampered by her parents. Whatever she wanted, they would buy for her. They spoiled her like a precious gem, not even daring to raise their voices at her, let alone scold her like Lu Yao just did.
What confused Gu Xiao even more was—why was Lu Yao angrier than Jian Fanxing? Wasn’t this supposed to be an issue between Jian Fanxing and He Qing?
Jian Fanxing was just as puzzled.
“Yaoyao, why were you so angry just now?” Sitting in the car, Jian Fanxing looked at Lu Yao, who was still fuming, and asked with concern.
“Why wouldn’t I be angry? Fanxing, don’t you think that woman is horrible? She thinks she can do whatever she wants just because she has money. Next thing you know, she’ll think she can do anything just because she’s pretty! And she actually dares to go after my best friend’s girlfriend? She’s a nobody, yet she dares to threaten you, the real girlfriend? What, does she think I, your best friend, am just for show?” Lu Yao ranted, furious. She couldn’t believe such a good-looking woman had such a nasty heart.
Jian Fanxing blinked. “So… you were angry for my sake?”
Lu Yao nodded firmly. “Of course! Who else would I be angry for? You’re my best friend.”
She was sure her reaction was totally normal, but for some reason, she felt a little guilty?
Lu Yao frowned, thinking for a couple of seconds. When she couldn’t figure it out, she simply stopped trying. It must’ve been because she hadn’t eaten breakfast early enough, which was why she felt unsure.
Now that she had vented, she felt much calmer. She turned to Jian Fanxing and asked, “Are you going to tell Miss He about what happened today?”
Tell her sister?
Jian Fanxing thought about what might happen if she did and shook her head. “No need. Gu Xiao just ran her mouth, and I didn’t actually get hurt.”
Besides, as infuriating as Gu Xiao’s words were, Jian Fanxing couldn’t deny that some of them were true.
Compared to her sister, she had nothing to offer—nothing but love.
She really couldn’t help with her sister’s career at all.
Seeing Jian Fanxing’s mood drop, Lu Yao sighed. “Fanxing, Miss He is amazing, so of course, you’re not the only one who likes her. There will always be people who are more outstanding than you. But you don’t have to compare yourself to them. The one Miss He likes is you. You just need to have faith in your relationship. If something like this happens again, fight back. If she criticizes you, criticize her right back. We can’t just let people walk all over us.”
“If it really bothers you, why don’t you just marry Miss He? Once she’s officially yours, no one else can say anything or try to take her away.”
Marriage?
Jian Fanxing had only briefly thought about it the last time He Qing mentioned it. Although they had been in an online relationship for seven years, their actual time together in person had been less than a month. Getting married now seemed way too rushed.
But the moment she thought of Gu Xiao, that woman who clearly had other intentions toward her girlfriend, Jian Fanxing suddenly felt that it might not be such a bad idea after all.
Maybe she should bring it up to her sister tonight?
Once the thought entered her mind, she couldn’t seem to get rid of it.
But tonight still felt too soon. She hadn’t even introduced her sister to her parents yet.
Her parents were simple farmers—how would they react if she brought home a girlfriend?
Jian Fanxing had no idea. Rural folks wouldn’t be as open-minded as He Qing.
Her excitement quickly cooled at the thought of this reality.
“…I’ll think about it later,” Jian Fanxing sighed, staring out of the car window, lost in thought.
Since they had no photoshoot, the two of them just spent their free time shopping and having afternoon tea.
Until He Qing got off work—then Jian Fanxing’s phone rang.
“Little Star, are you done? Send me the address, and I’ll pick you up.”
He Qing’s voice reached Jian Fanxing’s ears, still as gentle and doting as ever.
In that instant, all of Jian Fanxing’s frustration from the day melted away.
Lu Yao watched as her tired and gloomy friend suddenly became full of energy.
“No need, Sister. Yao Yao and I are already on our way back. What do you want to eat for dinner? I’ll stop by the supermarket on the way and buy some ingredients.”
As Jian Fanxing spoke, she gave Lu Yao a look, slung her camera bag over her shoulder, and got ready to leave.
“A wife waiting at home, eager to return,”—that was how Lu Yao described her friend.
So, she first drove Jian Fanxing to the supermarket, helped her buy a bunch of groceries, and then took her home.
Lu Yao was very tactful. She had no interest in being a third wheel in her friend’s love life. After dropping Jian Fanxing off and handing the car keys back to He Qing, she was about to leave.
“Yao Yao, stay for dinner,” Jian Fanxing said, trying to keep her.
Lu Yao had spent the whole day with her, especially taking her to do fun things to cheer her up. She must have been exhausted.
Lu Yao waved her hand and firmly refused, “No, no. I’d rather eat alone than sit here watching you two be lovey-dovey.”
After leaving Xiangxie Waterfront, Lu Yao didn’t rush home. After all, she’d just be alone there—too lonely.
She hadn’t been to a bar in a while, so she decided to take a cab to a quiet bar for a drink.
She went to her usual street and was about to enter her favorite bar when she suddenly noticed a familiar figure not far away.
“Gu Xiao?”
She recognized the figure instantly.
Was she here to party too? Lu Yao thought it made sense. A rich young lady like Gu Xiao probably spent a lot of time in bars.
Lu Yao decided to ignore her. After all, they weren’t the same kind of people.
But even though she told herself that, her feet seemed to have a mind of their own, taking her toward the bar Gu Xiao had entered.
Eventually, she followed her inside.
She found a seat, ordered a drink, and casually looked around.
She didn’t see Gu Xiao and felt a little disappointed. But she quickly pushed that feeling aside.
She wasn’t here for Gu Xiao—she was here to drink.
With that thought, Lu Yao lifted her glass and downed the drink in one go.
“Another one,” she told the bartender.
“Hey, little sister, why are you drinking alone? Did some clueless idiot break your heart?”
While waiting for her drink, a woman sat next to her. She wore heavy makeup, had a curvy figure, and was dressed in a way that barely covered the essentials. Most of her chest was openly exposed in front of Lu Yao.
Lu Yao blinked. Staring at a woman’s chest felt rude, so she quickly looked away.
But just as she turned her gaze, the woman suddenly wrapped an arm around hers.
“Little sister, do you like what you see? How about we go to a hotel and take a closer look?”
The woman’s breath tickled Lu Yao’s ear, making her shudder as goosebumps rose all over her skin.
She looked at the woman clinging to her like a snake, shocked.
“You… like women?”
She didn’t even wait for an answer before quickly pulling the woman’s hands off her.
The woman frowned at her reaction and said, “This is a lesbian bar. Every woman here likes women.”
“Since you came in, why are you pretending otherwise?”
A… lesbian bar? Lu Yao’s expression froze.
She had followed Gu Xiao in, so did that mean Gu Xiao was also…?
As soon as the thought entered her mind, Lu Yao felt ridiculous.
Of course, Gu Xiao was. She had openly declared her feelings for He Qing right in front of her and Fanxing. That was obviously a same-s3x attraction.
“I thought this was just a regular bar. Miss, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.”
Realizing she had given the wrong impression, Lu Yao sincerely apologized and prepared to leave.
But just as she turned around, the sudden blast of loud music made her stop.
Curious, she looked toward the stage—and saw Gu Xiao.
Standing there as the DJ, Gu Xiao was dressed provocatively, but her expression remained the same—chin slightly raised, eyes filled with arrogance, looking down on everyone. She was impossible to ignore.
As soon as Gu Xiao got on stage, the bar erupted with cheers, whistles, and excited shouts.
She was undoubtedly the center of attention.
Noticing Lu Yao staring, the woman from earlier leaned in.
“So, you like this type, huh? Good taste. But don’t bother—she’s out of your league.”
