My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 52
In the early morning, the sun was shining brightly, and He Qing could even hear birds chirping. Everything was full of life and hope.
“Little Star, let’s go.” He Qing stood at the door, holding a large suitcase. It wasn’t heavy, only filled with their clothes and skincare products.
She had already packed everything else into the car the night before.
Considering the location of Jian Fanxing’s home, He Qing drove the same black Mercedes-Benz as before.
It was only a four-hour drive. Usually, Jian Fanxing would be eager to return home, but this time, those four hours felt unbearable.
She trusted her sister, but the worry in her heart still filled her completely.
As they entered the village, Jian Fanxing could no longer hold back.
“Sis, if my mom and the others have a bad attitude later, please don’t get angry.”
“If my mom loses her temper and tries to hit you, just stay in the car. Let me handle everything, okay?”
Jian Fanxing knew her parents wouldn’t actually get violent with He Qing, but she still couldn’t ignore the possibility. What if?
When people are emotional, they might act unpredictably.
He Qing chuckled softly and looked at Jian Fanxing with gentle eyes. “I thought you were going to tell me not to fight back.”
Jian Fanxing pursed her lips slightly and glared at He Qing in frustration. “You can fight back.”
As long as you’re not afraid of losing your wife.
He Qing didn’t dare answer that and quickly changed the subject. “Little Star, where’s your house? Show me the way.”
Jian Fanxing let it go and focused on directing He Qing. The village wasn’t very big, so with Jian Fanxing guiding her, they soon arrived at her house.
As He Qing turned off the engine and was about to step out of the car, her phone rang.
It was He Jun.
He Qing paused and answered the call first.
“Xiao Qing, didn’t you say yesterday that you wanted to get married? I told you to arrange a meeting with Fanxing’s parents. Have you done that?” He Jun asked.
He Qing was silent for a second before replying, “I’m at Little Star’s house right now.”
“You’re at Fanxing’s parents’ house? You already went?” He Jun paused for a few seconds before raising his voice in surprise.
He Qing: “Mm.”
He Jun: “…”
After another moment of silence, He Qing spoke again. “Dad, do you need anything else? If not, I’ll hang up now. It’s not polite to stay in the car too long.”
Since she hadn’t gotten out yet, neither had Little Star. She had already noticed someone peeking out from the house because of the noise outside.
Judging by the size of the head sticking out, He Qing guessed it was Jian Fanxing’s younger brother, Jian Xiaofeng.
Maybe because the car had been parked for a while without anyone stepping out, Jian Xiaofeng gathered his courage, pressed his face against the car window, and looked inside.
Nervously, Jian Fanxing grabbed He Qing’s hand, her voice trembling slightly. “Sis, maybe… we shouldn’t go in after all.”
Her parents had never hit her before, but that was because she had never done anything too serious. However, bringing a girlfriend home was definitely a big deal. Especially since her mom had already made it clear that she didn’t approve.
Hearing Jian Fanxing’s anxious voice, He Jun on the other end of the call knew it was time to hang up. But before he did, he gave his daughter some advice.
“Remember to be polite and responsible. Always protect your wife. If you have to apologize, do it sincerely. Be respectful to your in-laws—don’t argue with them. Be helpful, take the initiative to do things, and most importantly, send me the address. You alone don’t carry enough weight. Hold down the fort, I’ll be there soon.”
After giving his instructions, He Jun quickly ended the call.
He Qing memorized her father’s words and gently squeezed Jian Fanxing’s hand in reassurance. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Then, she stepped out of the car and went straight to the trunk.
Since He Qing had already gotten out, there was no way Jian Fanxing could stay inside. She pushed the car door open and stepped out as well.
“Sis? It’s really you!” Jian Xiaofeng’s eyes lit up when he saw his sister. Excitedly, he turned and shouted toward the house, “Dad, Mom, sister is back!”
“Xiaofeng, how’s Mom and Dad’s mood today?” Jian Fanxing pulled her brother aside and asked cautiously.
“Their mood?” Jian Xiaofeng thought for a moment before replying, “Seems okay. Not very happy, but not too angry either.”
He assumed his sister was just worried about whether he had been misbehaving at home, so he quickly added, “Sis, I’ve been really good lately! I even made it into the top ten in my class for the midterms!”
Jian Fanxing was too preoccupied with what was about to happen to pay much attention. She simply responded, “Really? That’s great, Xiaomao.”
Just then, their parents, Jian’s father and mother, also came to the door.
As soon as Jian’s mother saw the fancy car parked outside their house, she immediately thought of the woman who had visited yesterday.
That woman had also driven a luxury car.
So, this car couldn’t belong to her daughter.
Jian’s mother knew her daughter well—smart, capable, and good at making money. But over the years, she had used most of her earnings to help the family and buy a house. There was no way she had the money to buy a luxury car.
That meant the car must belong to the so-called “girlfriend.”
Jian’s mother stood on her tiptoes and peeked outside. Sure enough, she saw a figure at the back of the car.
That person was tall and slim, dressed in expensive-looking clothes. Their hair was smooth and well-kept—nothing like the rough, coarse hair of villagers. Instead, it looked as refined as the main characters on TV.
Her daughter actually brought her “girlfriend” home? And she had just said she wouldn’t come back until May, but now, just one day after calling, she was already here?
Jian’s mother’s face darkened.
Luxury cars were rare in their village. Now that one was parked right in front of their house, she could already imagine how the gossipy neighbors would come asking questions.
What was she supposed to say?
That it was her daughter’s girlfriend’s car? That her daughter and her girlfriend came home to visit?
The thought made her feel sick to her stomach. Her face turned even sourer.
“Didn’t you say you were coming back in May? Why are you back now?” Jian’s mother asked in a sharp tone.
Hearing her mother’s irritated voice, Jian Fanxing instinctively took a step back. But just then, she felt a hand press gently against her back.
It was He Qing.
A warmth spread through Jian Fanxing’s heart, but at the same time, her anxiety peaked.
In less than a minute, her palms had already started sweating.
“Sis…” Jian Fanxing looked up at He Qing, and in return, He Qing gave her a warm and reassuring gaze.
That gaze told her, Don’t be afraid, I’m here.
After briefly exchanging glances with Jian Fanxing, He Qing turned to Jian’s mother. She curved her lips into a polite and proper smile, exuding confidence and steadiness. She acted as if she didn’t notice Jian’s mother’s cold gaze. Bowing slightly, she spoke in a calm and respectful tone. “Auntie, Uncle, hello. My name is He Qing.”
“Auntie, Uncle, if it’s alright, may we go inside and talk?”
There’s a saying: people don’t hit those who come with a smile. And this particular smiling person was not only beautiful but carried the grace of a celebrity.
Her soft and gentle demeanor made it hard for Jian’s mother to chase her away.
Jian’s father had no resistance at all.
“Come in, girl,” he said in the local dialect, putting out his cigarette.
Jian Fanxing was still staring at He Qing, unable to look away. It wasn’t until her father spoke that she snapped out of it and whispered, “Sis, is she really your friend? She’s so pretty… even prettier than actresses on TV.”
But Jian Fanxing’s mind was completely occupied with what was about to happen. She only gave a distracted response to her brother’s attempt at getting praised. “Really? That’s great, Xiao Mao.”
As they spoke, Jian Fanxing’s parents had also arrived at the door after hearing the commotion.
